Reality Show Shoe-cap: Shoes from Erin on The City & The Rachel Zoe Project

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Today, I thought we’d talk about some shoes seen recently on reality TV.  This past week marked the end of The Rachel Zoe Project (tear) and we saw two shoes worn by Rachel and Taylor in the finale (including the pair Rachel dubbed her tranny shoes).  But first, we have more shoes from The City season 2.  We’ve covered the footwear choices of Whitney Port, but now we must talk about Erin.  Erin, who is new to the show, is the Director of PR at Elle (the youngest one ever) and she seems to be quite the power player, ready to whip new accessories editor Olivia into submission and show her who’s boss.  Although Whitney never quite put Olivia in her place during the first season, Erin certainly intends to - especially in these shoes:

When Erin debuts on the show, the first thing we notice is her feet - in these amazing Christian Louboutin Very Prive studded peep toe heels (seen on Polyvore).  Yes, nothing says “She Who Must Be Obeyed” like a heel with little spikes all over it.  I don’t see this pair available for sale anywhere, but the similar Christian Louboutin Pigalle stud pump is at luisaviaroma for $1,097.70 (limited sizes) or at net-a-porter for $995.  For lower-priced alternatives, try these:

Dolce Vita Trinity, a shoe definitely on my love list right now, for $210 at Saks Fifth Avenue.  Get 25% off using coupon code FRIENDS2 until 10/18/09, making them $157.50.  Also available at Bloomingdales for $210.

Lovely People Aziza stud platform peep toe pump for $69.99 at Smartbargains.  It looks like you get an extra 10% off and free shipping at checkout too.

Rock & Republic Nika for $279 at Zappos.

If you’re digging the pair Erin wears in the MTV promo pic above, it’s the Report Signature Masonic, found at Amazon for $134.95 or $188.99 depending on the size selected.  Also available at Endless for $137.47 in very limited sizes, at Bluefly for $149.99 or at Heels.com for $224.09.  Update: You can also get this same style at QVC for $125.

Looking to spend less on this look?  Try the ALDO Smeal for $89.98 with free shipping at Amazon.

Or, substitute chains for studs with this drool-worthy Jeffrey Campbell Posh-2 chain platform for $164.95 at Solestruck.

On to The Rachel Zoe Project: In the season finale, Rachel rocks this two-tone Louis Vuitton platform wedge in gold and black from the fall 2008 RTW collection (seen on Style.com).  She also wore an all-black version earlier in the season.  I love these on her and, although Bebe made this France platform wedge clearly inspired by this shoe, they are now sold out and I couldn’t find anything else that closely resembles this unique pair.  However, an extra-tall and funky platform should fit the bill, capturing a similar look without imitating the exact style.  Try these:

Jeffrey Campbell Tryst for $109.95 with free shipping at Solestruck.

Cool, Casual by Slow and Steady Wins the Race at Urban Outfitters for $88.  Coupon code BIGMOUTH takes an additional 10% off until 10/26/09.

Deena and Ozzy Mary Jane Wedge for $49.99 at Urban Outfitters.  Use coupon code listed above for 10% off.

BCBGirls Ris Wedge for $60.47 with free shipping from Endless.

Marley Crisscross Wedge for $99.95 at Free People.

Update: Here’s another pair called the Sam Edelman Zoe for $350 at Urban Outfitters.  Was it inspired by Rachel herself (hence the name)?  Maybe so!

Finally, there’s Taylor.  On the finale, Taylor proves the squeaky wheel gets the grease a promotion from styling associate to head of product development.  She also wears some suede boots during a trip to QVC headquarters with Rach that looked a lot like this Christian Louboutin ankle boot.  Here are some more affordable suede boots to check out:

Nine West Zenon for $119 at Nine West.  Apply coupon code NWFRND6 to get 30% off until 10/18/09.

Nine West Ignatious for $109 at Macy’s.  Get free shipping on $99 or more using coupon code FAVEFIND at checkout until 10/22/09.

Lumiani Regine for $145 with free shipping at Zappos.

Shoe Buzz: Whitney Port black ankle strap shoes from The City revisited

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

You may still be looking for this sexy black heel worn by Whitney Port on The City, which was first spotted in the season 1 show opener.  As you can tell from my previous posts, I’ve been a little obsessed with finding it too.  However, this pair appeared in segment that was likely filmed at least a year ago, so it’s probably a sold-out style by now.  But, the good news is there are plenty of look-alike pairs, even more so than when season 1 aired.  In celebration of the season 2 of The City, which once again showed this coveted pair, we’re going to take a look at black ankle strap heels that are available now and capture this look:

ALDO Applin for $79.98 at ALDO.  Get free shipping with their VIPOFFER coupon code.

ALDO Streiff for $69.98 at ALDO.  Get free shipping with their VIPOFFER coupon code.

Steve Madden Tayla for $95.96 at Steve Madden.  Get free shipping with their SMFREESHIP coupon code.  You can also get 20% off if your order is over $100 or 25% off $125 or more.

Steven by Steve Madden Bryant on sale for $100 at Zappos with free shipping.

Elizabeth and James Jasmin on sale for $239.20 with free shipping at Zappos.

Dolce Vita Charlotte for $160 at Martin + Osa.  Get 20% off with coupon code 12244016 until 9/30/09.

SM Luxe Kiss (available in black) for $79.95 at DSW.  Members get free shipping by applying FALLSHP at checkout.

Matiko Winnie for $148 at Polished Sense.  Get 10% off orders $125 or more at checkout.

If you are still looking for Whitney’s cage shoe, also shown in the show opener, try the Dolce Vita Cher in limited sizes for $152 at 80s Purple or in dark silver at ShoeSteal for $129.60 (also limited sizes).  The similar Dolce Vita Celtic at Zappos is $178 with free shipping.  Update: I found this $22.80 Lattice Platform Bootie at Forever 21, a similar pair that costs much, much less.  There’s also the Colin Stuart Cut-Out Lace Up Bootie at Victoria’s Secret for $65.

Shoe Buzz: Shoes Whitney Port wears in new The City Season 2 promo

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

I don’t know about you, but I’m totally gearing up for Season 2 of The City on MTV September 29.  I can’t wait to see more of Whitney’s love and work escapades, those icy Olivia stares, the always-entertaining (and cutthroat) Kelly Cutrone and all the fashion, especially shoes.  Season 1 The City shoes brought plenty of eye candy, most notably the black ankle strap heel Whitney wore in the show opening - a shoe apparently no one could ID with absolute certainty (Including me, though I did try.  See all posts here).  Whitney also wore the gold Gucci Babouska studded sandal, a black cage shoe thought to be the black Dolce Vita Cher and more.  Now MTV has a The City Season 2 promo video that contains three new pairs, which can certainly be described as dramatic statement shoes.

I managed to locate the pair Whitney is wearing, which is the Givenchy Patent Metal Lace Sandal.  This shoe doesn’t appear to be on sale anywhere right now, but it is priced at over $1,700, so I think some lower-priced alternatives are in order (let’s keep in mind that they won’t be exactly like the Givenchy pair, but should convey a similar look):

Report Signature Randolph for $187 at Shoes.com.  Apply coupon code BML2009 to get 20% off, which drops them to $149.60 with free shipping.

Luichiny Sneak By on sale for $66.83 with free shipping at Zappos.

Rocawear Haydin Pump for $79.99 at Heels.com.  Apply coupon code RAY20 to get 20% off no minimum, making your total $63.99 with free shipping.

N.Y.L.A. Via Leather Platform Sandal for $79.95 at DSW.  Rewards members get free shipping on $35 or more using coupon code FALLSHP at checkout.

Dollhouse Tosha for $55 at Torrid.com.  Get $10 off with coupon code 17SEPTEMBER until 9/30/09.

There are two other pairs in the promo that I haven’t been able to locate:

Anyone recognize these?  If so, let me know in the comments.

More The City Season 2 updates to come!

Shoe Buzz: Whitney Port and her black ankle strap shoes on The City (plus her cage shoes!)

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

If you’ve been following my posts on shoes from The City with Whitney Port, you know that I’ve been trying to find the infamous black ankle strap heel she wears in the show (the one seen in the opening credits and in the first episode).  I offered up some look-alikes in my previous posts, but I had pretty much given up on finding the exact pair -  until I just happened to run across this pair.  If the BCBGMAXAZRIA Monroe isn’t THE shoe, I have to say it’s the closest thing I’ve seen to it.  It’s available at Smartbargains for $119.99, but it’s almost sold out.  However, Endless also sells it for $239.95.  So, maybe this shoe mystery is solved.  What do you think?

Update: While checking out some footwear from BCBGMMAXAZRIA, I noticed this gorgeous heel and, I have to say, it looks a lot like the cage shoes seen on Whitney when she gets out of the cab in the show opening.  The BCBGMAXAZRIA Gianni lace-up strappy sandal in black is $240 at bcbg.com and, I must say, it’s an amazing pair of shoes.  They are also available in other colors at Zappos for $204, Endless for $203.90, and Shoes.com for $240. Bluefly has it in bronze for $144.

Update: So, this is another hot cage heel and it has to be the actual pair Whitney is wearing when stepping out of the cab (or a really good look-alike).  The Dolce Vita Cher is available at the Dolce Vita website for $119.95, marked down from $152.  There are only four sizes left available in black, but you can also get them in gray and teal. Urban Outfitters has them in maroon or teal for $148 and coupon code TEN4U takes an extra $10 off until 3/9/09.  Shopbop has this style on sale for $120.40.

Shoe Buzz: Shoes worn by Erin and Olivia in The City on MTV (plus Whitney)

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I’ve covered Whitney Port’s shoe style on MTV’s The City but, of course, we have to discuss the footwear fashion choices of Olivia and Erin, her stylish co-stars on the show.  I’ve been studiously doing my The City analysis every week, examining and scrutinizing each episode for cute shoes (this is serious research, after all) and I’ve seen some notable ones, even in blink-an-eye-and-miss-it moments.  Let’s get things started with Olivia:

Perpetually pouty Olivia may go a tad overboard with the snobbery, but you have to admit she has fashion down pat (and perfectly coifed hair, I must say).  Like Whitney, she has a penchant for wearing black shoes with a bit of high drama in the design.  Here we see her in a promo photo looking fab and wearing some stylish black peep toe booties.

There are plenty of black peep toe booties out there, but the Steve Madden Roarr is probably the most similar I’ve seen.  It’s also listed on MTV’s SeenOn! as being inspired by Olivia’s black shoes on the show.  You can get them at Steve Madden in black, gray or purple for $109.95.  Need more options?

Left to Right: Madden Girl Aliza for $49.95 at DSW.com (use code BFRSHIP for free shipping when logged-in to Rewards account), Arden B Suede Peep Toe Bootie for $68 at Arden B and an extra 20% off with coupon code ABBDAY0209 until 3/6/09, Type Z Superstar for $62.10 at Zappos

In another episode, Olivia is shown walking on a sidewalk in New York City wearing a style with swinging fringe at the ankle.  It’s a nice effect, but she’s wearing black tights and the shot is quick, so it’s hard to see what exactly she’s wearing.  However, I suspect luxury designer-loving Olivia would approve of this Christian Louboutin Suede Fringe Pump, which is $1,095 at Neiman Marcus.  If you like the swinging fringe effect, without the Louboutin price tag, try these:

Left to right: Max Studio Fringed Suede Platform Stilettos for $123 + free shipping at Maxstudio.com, Steve Madden Molleyy for $39.99 at Steve Madden, Go Jane Fringed Suede Peep Toe Bootie for $21.50 at Go Jane

Let’s move on to Erin.  Erin definitely loves juggling men, but she also clearly loves fashion and has great style.  In episode 8, Whitney and Erin go out to see Whit’s boyfriend Jay play with his band and a reluctant Olivia goes along.  Beforehand, Erin and Whitney swing by Olivia’s apartment and check out her closet (which is unusually located right by the front door) and we catch a peek of Erin’s super-cute white ankle strap wedge heels that she donned with black tights.  I’m quite certain they are Corso Como, but it appears the exact pair is no longer available.  However, I found this style:

The Corso Como Dodi Wedge is very similar to what Erin wore, although Erin’s pair only had a white ankle strap at the top.  This is a gorgeous shoe and I really love the effect of the black bow at the ankle.  This pair is available at Heels.com for $139.99 with free shipping. Amazon also has it in sizes 9-13 for $149.99.  While it’s hard to find look-alikes for this unique shoe, I think these pairs convey a similar look:

Left to right: Kenzo 293921 Espadrille for $319.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless, Jump Mond Shoe for $112 with free shipping at Zapppos, Miss Me Suri Heel for $32 at LuLus and an extra 15% off with LOVELULUS coupon code

We also spy Erin in an early episode looking smitten and making sweet music with then-beau Duncan.  The relationship may have fizzled for now, but fashion always remains.  Erin looks effortlessly chic in these perfect mid-calf camel-colored boots, which I suspect are also from Corso Como because they look a lot like this pair:

The Corso Como Benita Boot in cognac leather is fabulous and available at Shoes.com for $287.  It has ruching along the shaft and just enough heel to be comfortable, yet flattering.  You can also get 20% off using coupon code ENTSHOES09 during checkout, which drops the price to $229.60 with free shipping.  Here are some other options:

Left to right: Frye Carson Boot for $352 at Zappos, Steve Madden Lasoo Boot for $99.95 at Steve Madden and free shipping until 2/26/09, Steve Madden Gimbal Boot for $159.50 at Delias with free shipping after applying coupon code DXCW25 until 3/2/09 (Update: Get this boot for less at Steve Madden, where it’s listed for $109.99 with an extra 30% off until 3/5/09), Slouch Cowboy Boot for $39.50 at Wet Seal and free shipping with ENT0809 coupon code

Finally, we’re going to revisit Whitney’s ever-coveted black ankle strap heel, which I covered in my last shoes from The City post.  Fashion Kitty says on her blog that she’s received a lot of email about this pair and she’s sure it’s the Steven by Steve Madden Bryant.  MTV’s SeenOn also lists the Bryant as a pair inspired by “The L Word” episode, although some of the pairs they list are not the exact style worn on the series.  I think this shoe mystery may never fully be solved (unless Whitney herself clears it up), but I found a few additional options, like this Hale Bob Mum Pump, available at Shoes.com for $112 and an extra 20% off with coupon code ENTSHOES09 at checkout.  Although it isn’t exact, I love this shoe and I think it conveys the same look, which is what matters most.  Other similar styles:

Left to right: Cindy Says Pyramid Sandal for $179.95 and free overnight shipping at Endless, Steve Madden Triumphh for $111 at Shoes.com and an extra 20% off with ENTSHOES09 coupon code, Nine West Jay for $79 at Nine West and an additional $10 off with NWFALLV8 coupon code until 2/28/09, ALDO Streiff for $100 at aldoshoes.com with 10% off via coupon code STUDADV817002 and free shipping.

Update 3/2/09: I found another black ankle strap shoe option.  See my post on it here.

Shoe Buzz: Shoes from MTV’s The City with Whitney Port

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

**Updates (like Season 2 promo shoes) found here.**

If you’re secretly addicted to MTV’s The Hills like me (ok, maybe it’s not such a secret), then you’ve probably checked out Whitney Port’s new spin-off series, The City.  Whitney was primarily Lauren’s ultra-understanding work confidante on The Hills, but we watched her steadily climb the fashion career ladder by working for Teen Vogue and People’s Revolution.  Now she’s come into her own by landing a starring role on The City and making a move from LA to New York for her new position at Diane Von Furstenburg.  Like The Hills, The City offers a glam cast, an abundance of drama and, of course, the fashion.  In fact, discerning shoe lovers have likely already noticed the many “shoe moments” already featured on the show.  We’re going to discuss a few of those moments and check out some gorgeous shoes inspired by the MTV show.

It doesn’t take long to have the first shoe moment on The City.  Right as the show’s opening theme song starts to play, you see Whitney stepping out of a cab in a sexy pair of black cage heels.  I’m not sure of the brand she’s wearing here, but I’ve found some equally hot look alikes, such as this Hale Bob Palermo platform, available at DSW in black or purple for $89.95.  If you’re logged into your DSW account, you can apply coupon codes 772 for $10 off and BFRSHP for free shipping.  Here are some more black cage heel options:

Left to right: Joey O Leather Birdcage Slingback $99.95 at DSW (use coupon codes above), Carlos by Carlos Santana Cage for $51.48 at 6pm, Strappy cut-out heel for $23.10 at Go Jane

Update 3/2/09: The cage heel in this post might be it.

We also see Whitney wearing these fierce black ankle strap heels with a super-short dress during the show’s opening song and in other spots on the show.  Whitney clearly has a preference for black shoes, but she goes for drama in the design.  Looking for a similar style?  Try these:

Left to right: Steve Madden Tayla $119.95 at Steve Madden, Carlos by Carlos Santana Energy $69.29 at Carlos Shoes, N.Y.L.A Linden $79.95 at DSW (use coupon codes above)

Update: See more shoes inspired by this style in the latest shoes from The City feature, plus shoes worn by Olivia and Erin.  Update 3/2/09: I found another style that looks a lot like Whitney’s black ankle strap shoe.  See my post on it here.

Whitney takes a break from black by wearing these stand-out gold studded numbers at the Diane Von Furstenburg Wonder Woman event in episode 4.  Whitney says on her blog that these are Moschino, although they most definitely look like these Gucci Babouska sandals, which don’t appear to be available online anywhere except eBay.  No matter, since I found some similar and much more affordable options here:

Left to right: BCBGirls Dimitria $109.95 at Onlineshoes, Metallic studded woven heel $25 at Go Jane, Zigi Soho Studded Platform $59.95 at DSW (use coupon codes above), Metallic cross strap stud heel $41.60 at Go Jane

In Whitney’s most notable shoe moment, she attends a shoe-signing event at Bergdorf Goodman, where she meets Manolo Blahnik and he signs her very first pair of Manolos.  Lucky girl.  Co-star and self-professed “social” Olivia, who attended the event with Whitney, seemingly tries to one-up her when she states that her first pair was for her deb ball when she was 17.  Despite that, Whitney was clearly having one of her top fashion moments ever.  I wish I could’ve been in her shoes, literally, for that one.

That’s all for now, but stay tuned for more shoes from The City, like styles from Olivia and Erin, in upcoming Shoe Buzz features!
