A Woman’s Right to Something Blue Shoes…for less

Friday, May 18th, 2012

It’s hard to look at any royal blue satin heel with sparkly ornamentation at the toe, like the Glint Radiance pictured above, and not think of one thing: Sex and the City.  Of course, I’m talking about this shoe:

The Manolo Blahnik Something Blue, which is available at Bergdorf Goodman for $945, became a shoe icon after being featured prominently in the first Sex and the City movie and it’s inspired many a knockoff.  But, the Glint Radiance Pump (pictured top) is interesting because it has similar features of the Something Blue, but rather than being an exact replica, it’s actually a mish mash of it and another famous shoe style from the series:

The Manolo Blahnik Sedaraby d’orsay pump in silver (it also comes in blue) was one of the stars of the TV series in A Woman’s Right to Shoes.  Of course, this is the episode where Carrie attends a friend’s baby shower and the house rules are to take your shoes off at the door.  Carrie reluctantly does so and ends up having her shoes missing by the end of the party, which her friend offers to replace before finding out their price tag of $485.  This brought on some shoe shame by her friend for spending so much money on the shoes in the first place.  Of course, in the end, Carrie decides she does have a right to $485 shoes – and I quote, “The fact is, sometimes it’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun” – so after spending so much on her friend’s wedding and baby gifts, she makes a point by registering herself at Manolo Blahnik for the shoes and the friend finally agrees to replace them.  Such a great episode.

The Sedaraby is still available now, but at $755, even die-hard lovers of SATC who would love to obtain Carrie’s shoe style may just find it well out of their reach.  That’s why the Glint Radiance is a great alternative that combines features of both Manolos I’m talking about here, without being an exact copy of either, but at a much more affordable price of $119.95 at Nordstrom.  Not to mention, it’s a beautiful shoe in its own right with a different style of jewel decor that makes it stand out on its own.  In particular, I’m sure many brides will love the gorgeous blue version at the top for a little something blue in their shoes, but there is an ivory version (pictured above) that would also be ideal for walking down the aisle.

Of course, even though the shoes do have a bridal slant to them, you certainly don’t have to be getting married to wear them, as Carrie clearly demonstrated in the show as a single shoe-loving girl.  I really like the silver version for being the kind of shoe you can have on hand for the times you need to get a bit fancy and one that would quite literally go with anything you want to wear it with.  Ok, maybe not everything, but metallic silver is definitely known for its extreme versatility.

Another notable thing about these shoes: They come in a wide range of sizes, from 4-12.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Johnathan Kayne Peacock: Sex and the City inspired feather wedding heels

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

I was just discussing purple wedding shoes in my last post, but I had to stick with the wedding shoes theme again today after a certain blue peacock feather heel caught my eye.  When I saw them, it immediately brought me back to Carrie Bradshaw and her wedding style from the first Sex and the City movie – actually, her style in both of the wedding scenes that took place in the film.  There was the lavish formal affair (that we all know ended up not happening) where Carrie wore a Vivienne Westwood wedding gown and an over-the-top feather headpiece and there was the civil ceremony where she ended up marrying Mr. Big in a much simpler white dress suit accessorized with her gorgeous Manolo Blahnik blue satin heels.  These shoes, which are still available in a few sizes for $945 at Bergdorf Goodman, sparked a trend for brides wearing something blue for their footwear and also spawned many look-alike versions (which I touched upon here and here).  But, if you are a bride-to-be who wants to infuse some SATC style into your own wedding look, without necessarily wearing a replica of the Manolos, here’s another option:

With the Johnathan Kayne Peacock, you have the blue satin, the feather detail, a bit of bling: basically Carrie’s style from both wedding scenes rolled into one.  While they are definitely well-suited for brides, they could always add dramatic flair to any evening look.  You can find them at Endless for $125 with free overnight shipping and they also come in black.

Dolce Vita Marilyn knockoff, the N.Y.L.A. Webebe + DSW coupon

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

DSW is dishing out the discounts right now with their new coupon code TOPTIER, which takes $10 off $49, $25 off $99 and $50 off $199 at checkout if you sign in to your DSW account.  There’s definitely something for everyone in their wide selection of women’s shoes, but I spotted a new arrival that’s a dead ringer for the Dolce Vita boots Miley Cyrus and Kim Cattrall (as Samantha Jones) wore in Sex and the City 2.  The Dolce Vita Marilyn from the movie is all but sold out – as is the lookalike version from Bebe, the Bebe Jenna – but now we have another style for anyone who wants to rock a tall strappy boot with a bedazzled minidress (or, perhaps, jeans).  It’s the N.Y.L.A. Webebe in tan, black or grey and DSW has them priced at $129.95.  With the code, your total drops to $104.95.  That’s quite a bit less than the Bebe or the Dolce Vita boots and you can also get free shipping by adding SHIPR along with the other coupon.  The TOPTIER coupon expires 7/26/10 and doesn’t apply to Skechers Shape-Ups or Reebok Easy Tones.

Shoe Buzz: Sex and the City 2 shoe style for less

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Sex and the City 2 is finally out today (yay!) and I won’t be braving the theatres on premier day, although I will attempt to check it out this weekend.  In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to round up all of the shoes we’ve seen so far that are either in the movie or associated with it (i.e. premieres, etc).  Since we know the Sex and the City 2 ladies are always extravagent and over-the-top with fashion – the cost of their wardrobe is said to have been around $10 million – I’ve also found lookalike options that are far less expensive.  These are the shoes we’ve seen in the movie photos and info released up until now, some of which I’ve covered in my previous Sex and the City 2 shoes posts, but now you can see them all in one big super-post.  I’m sure the movie itself will provide plenty of additional footwear eye candy, so I’ll add more as I see them.

We’ll start with the gold heels Sarah Jessica Parker wears as Carrie Bradshaw in her white dress, which is one of my favorite looks so far.  I love the gold and white combo and how the simplicity of the dress allows the shoes to really shine.  These appear to be Christian Louboutin Pigalle Strass heels, but they aren’t available for purchase online (the Halston Heritage white dress is available at Neiman Marcus for $325 though).  However, I did find some similarly sparkly shoes that are sold for less:

H by Halston Stella gold glitter pumps for $79.95 exclusively at Bakers Shoes.  These are also available in silver glitter, multi glitter and brown, white or black leather.  Update: Now on sale for $59.99.

Chinese Laundry Ladybug in gold for $79.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Enzo Angiolini Merryann in gold and silver for $79.95 at Nordstrom.  The stock photo really doesn’t do this pair justice.  Check out the Goldenmeans blog to see just how gorgeous these look on.

We also see Carrie wearing the Christian Louboutin Bridget Strass in SATC2.  These are unavailable online, but we have a close lookalike from Dollhouse:

The gold version of the Dollhouse Tano is available at Dollhouse.com for $54.  Or, you can opt for the all black Tano, which DSW offers for $49.95.  Get $10 off at DSW with code TAKE10 (must login) until 6/28 and free shipping with code FREESHIP at checkout.  Update: Amazon has the Dollhouse Tano in red/black, gold/black or all black marked down to $41.97 with free shipping.  Update 2: More similar styles are the Anne Michelle Obscene-14 mesh bootie for $24.80 at Urban Originals and  the embroidered cage snake bootie available at GoJane for $27.70 and the Mesh Floral Embroidery Heels for $24.99 at Amiclubwear.

We see the Christian Louboutin Gino t-strap sandal on Carrie with her bright blue dress.  Again, these are unavailable for sale online and there aren’t too many close lookalikes that I see.  But, these less expensive shoes offer some of the same elements, resulting in a similar look:

Charles by Charles David Racey for $68.77 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Betsey Johnson Lavant for $133 at 6pm.

Cri de Coeur Elegance for $100 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked amazing at the Sex and the City 2 premier in yellow Valentino and dark silver Salvatore Ferragamo double platform heels.  This Steve Madden pair provides a nice alternative:

Steve Madden Caryssa for $89.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  Get $15 off $80 with coupon code STATMNTI for a limited time (see site for additional codes that apply to larger purchases).

Sarah Jessica changes into a black dress and bold Nicholas Kirkwood shoes for the premier after-party.  These shoes are sold at Browns, but they are currently out of stock with more coming soon (Update: The version without pink piping is available at luisaviaroma.com for $1,242.40).  This is another unique pair that’s hard to find lookalikes for, but these shoes come close:

Michael Antonio Toki in purple or grey for $66.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless or for $59.90 with free shipping on $75 or more at FlyJane.

Cut-Out Colorblock Peep Toe Heel for $30 at GoJane.

The Brian Atwood Loca in lavender is worn by Carrie with her plaid shirt and cropped jeans.  The Loca was available at Net-a-Porter for $800, but is now sold out (more stock may be coming soon).  Neiman Marcus has the black and antique brass versions available for $800 and Bergdorf has them for $815.  If you’re looking for a more affordable lavender studded heel lookalike for the Loca, try this pair:

The Steve Madden Twilitte is available at Steve Madden for $109.95 and you can get 25% off and free shipping with coupon code FF25 until 5/31/10.  It also comes in black.

Update: Here’s a Brian Atwood Loca knockoff from GoJane.  It’s $29.90 and comes in black, grey or red.

Miley Cyrus makes a cameo in the movie and she’s dressed identical to Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, even down to their strappy boots.  These are the Dolce Vita Marilyn, available in very limited sizes at Endless, but almost sold out completely everywhere.  Bebe has a practically identical version, the Bebe Jenna, which is also out of stock (with more coming soon it appears).  For less expensive lookalikes, see this post or check out this pair that reminds me of the Marilyn, except in a lighter, more summer-y way:

Guess Blarney for $140 in black or brown at Guess.com. Update: A few more lookalikes: the N.Y.L.A. Webebe at Amazon or Endless for $169.95 or the Charles Albert New 1769 Double Dip in black for $58 at LuLu’s or the Strappy Detail Thigh High Boot for $45.50 at GoJane or the Suede Buckle Strap Heel Boots for $38.99 at Amiclubwear.

Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha Jones is seen wearing the $148 Patricia Field Classic Polly shoes in white and gold.  You can find these and more shoes by Patricia Field at Patriciafield.com.

The iconic Manolo Blahnik Something Blue shoes make a cameo in SATC2 as part of the shoes in Carrie’s closet.  You can get the real deal at Bergdorf Goodman for $945 or try these blue satin lookalikes for less:

Martinez Valero Zenith Blue for $154.99 at Sears.

RSVP Zaza for $99 with free shipping at Zappos.

Charlotte wears purple peep toe platforms in the movie and the shoes help Carrie locate her in a crowded Abu Dhabi market.  I’m not sure exactly what kind of shoes these are, but the Paris Hilton Sashay in purple is a pretty alternative that looks quite similar.

You can get these for $69.30 at 6pm.

Charlotte also wears the pink and white Christian Louboutin Very Croise platform sandal (seen at Polyvore).  For more affordable shoes that aren’t exact, but have similar design elements and/or colors, try these:

The Shiekh Catwalk 22 in black and white for $25 at Shiekhshoes.com.  It’s also available in four additional color options.

Another option from Shiekhshoes, the Shiekh Persia-01.  This is actually a lookalike for another designer pair, but it has the same pink and white combo.  These are $44.97.

Get the same color combo in sandal form with the Guess Knotted platform for $98.95 at Endless.  Get $15 more off using coupon code STATMNTI at checkout for a limited time.

Carrie wears a pair of black and blue booties with her green dress that are from Pierre Hardy.  I couldn’t find these shoes online, but the blog Better In Boots has some more info/pics.  For a less expensive option, try this pair:

Fergie Jolt for $48.98 with free shipping at Amazon.

When Carrie runs into Aiden in the Abu Dhabi market, she wears a Dior t-shirt with a long, full skirt and pink suede sandals.  The pink shoes worn by Sarah Jessica Parker are the Manolo Blahnik Lezza, which are unavailable for sale online but you can see a picture of the black version over at Coolspotters.  For a similar alternative, try these shoes:

Pour La Victoire Bridgette in fuschia for $163.90 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Dollhouse Esina for $49.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  This pair is also a lookalike for this Giuseppe Zanotti sandal.

United Nude Cup Goddess for $194.95 at Endless.

Pre-order the Vivienne Westwood shoes worn by Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City 2 poster

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Anticipation is already high for the Sex and the City sequel and it’s sure to grow to a full-on frenzy the closer we get to the May 27 premiere, a mere week away.  As a SATC fan, I’m certainly counting the days until it’s out and, of course, I’m looking forward to checking out the shoes.  Let’s face it, Sex and the City just wouldn’t be the same without all of the fabulous footwear.  Even though the movie isn’t out yet, we already know we’ll see plenty of Christian Louboutin featured, but I got an email from someone who wanted to find out where to buy the Vivienne Westwood shoes that are a part of the film.  It’s the strappy brown gladiator sandal with multiple buckles that Sarah Jessica Parker wears in one of the official movie posters (pictured above) and it has extra-long straps that hang down from the side.  It’s definitely one of those to-die-for kind of shoes.

According to Vogue UK, this particular pair was originally made for the Vivienne Westwood spring/summer 2009 Gold Label collection to show on the runway and it was never produced to sell.  But, due to demand generated by the movie — referred to by Vogue as the “Carrie factor” — the label has decided to make them and sell them at select Vivienne Westwood boutiques so that SATC fans have the “opportunity to own a piece of memorabilia featured in the movie.”  But, if you don’t have a boutique near you, you can also pre-order the Sex and the City 2 shoes online at hervia.com, which is the website of UK’s leading retailer of Vivienne Westwood products.  They have the shoes on pre-order for £425 and, if my calculations are correct, that translates to roughly $610 with shipping available worldwide.

Don’t forget, Vivienne Westwood was the designer of Carrie’s wedding dress in the first Sex and the City movie and the knee-length version Net-a-Porter offered sold out in a matter of hours, so act quick if you must have these limited-edition stunners or they could be gone for good.  The expected ship date is 5/24/10.

Update: Sold out.

More or Less: Brian Atwood Loca from Sex and the City 2 & Steve Madden Twilitte

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

You might recognize the lovely Brian Atwood Loca (pictured above) as the pair of shoes Sarah Jessica Parker wears as Carrie in Sex and the City 2 and, even though the movie isn’t out until May 27, you can get a jump-start on your own SATC style before it’s even released.  The Loca is available at Net-a-Porter for $800, quite a chunk of change, and there’s only 1 size available right now.  If you’re looking for a more affordable lavender studded heel lookalike for the Brian Atwood Loca, try this pair:

The Steve Madden Twilitte is available at Steve Madden for $109.95 and you can get 25% off and free shipping with coupon code FF25 until 5/31/10.  It also comes in black.

I also spotted this Star Spangled Stiletto in black at Forever 21 for $25.80.  It doesn’t come in lavender, but I think it has a similar look to the Atwood pair.  Sizes are limited.

Update: Here’s a Brian Atwood Loca knockoff from GoJane.  It’s $29.90 and comes in black, grey or red.

Now the question is, would you pair your lavender stud heels with capri jeans and a belly-baring plaid shirt like Carrie does in SATC2?

More or Less: Christian Louboutin Bridget knockoff, the Nadara Cosmo

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

We know that the Christian Louboutin Bridget (and the gold version, Bridget Strass) was a super-hot style for much of 2009 and one that I considered the shoe of the year based on the multitude of celebrities seen wearing it and the fact that it will be featured in the upcoming Sex and the City 2 movie, which is all but guaranteed to be a hit.  The buzz over the Bridget seems to have died down for now, since it no longer appears to be available for sale anywhere online, so I was starting to think that no one would attempt to make a lookalike for this standout pair.  But, oh yes, they did:

I was checking out Journeys today and saw the Nadara Cosmo, which is a dead ringer for the Christian Louboutin Bridget – even down to the red sole (albeit a darker red).  While the Louboutin Strass was priced at $1,785, the Nadara Cosmo is priced way lower at $49.99.  That’s over $1,700 less (if you could still get the Bridget), so I’m predicting these could sell out pretty quick.

Update: Looks like this one is sold out now, but here’s a new lookalike:

The Dollhouse Tano in gold, a Christian Louboutin Bridget Strass knockoff.  There’s also a solid black Bridget replica or a red/black version.  They are each priced at $59.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  Update: You can also get these at the Dollhouse shoes website for $54 or at Shoe Bungalow for $59.95 or at DSW for $49.95.

There’s also this patent floral lace bootie at GoJane for $29.70.  Sizes are getting a bit limited.

Update 2: More similar styles are the Anne Michelle Obscene-14 mesh bootie for $24.80 at Urban Originals and embroidered cage snake bootie available at GoJane for $27.70.
