St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on the 17th of this month, so I thought I would round up some green shoe options in honor of the day. This is serious business, after all, because you definitely want some of that Irish luck on your side and you most definitely want to avoid getting pinched. When it comes to checking out a bunch of cute green shoes, it’s a tough job, but someone must do it, right? Right. Ok, all jokes aside, here are some shoes that are in the perfect shade for some St. Patty’s Day revelry, but also for well beyond - applying a fresh, crisp pop of this color to your look is always nice for spring. That being said, let’s get into the groove of green:

Frye Kara Trapunto for $228 with free shipping from Zappos.

Mojo Moxy Sassy for $79.95 at DSW. Members get free shipping on $35 with coupon code SHIPR through 3/21/11.

Michael Antonio Gillespie for $64.99 with free 2-day shipping at Heels.com.

Lately, I’ve noticed that many shoe designers seem to be catching a case of the blues — but in the best possible way, of course, because what I’m referring to is a spring denim trend. Blue jeans are always a closet staple, but this trend is all about the use of denim for other types of clothing and accessories, such as shoes. And like your favorite pair of jeans, shoes in denim have the potential for some serious multitasking in any wardrobe due to the versatility of the fabric. It also tends to exude a cool, casual vibe perfect for toning down a look and making it more laid-back, which works well when this is the desired effect. I first observed this trend emerging when Mr. Louboutin released shoes in denim for the upcoming season, like the drool-worthy Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120 studded denim pumps pictured above for $975 at Net-a-Porter (almost sold out) and more styles, like the Christian Louboutin Greissimo in denim for $875 and the Christian Louboutin Deroba Denim Wedge for $595 at Neiman Marcus. Plus, as Fashionologie reports, denim pieces were seen all over the runway for several noted designers and, in addition, we have the lovely Rachel Roy, who recently released an array of denim shoes as part of her Rachel Rachel Roy line. If you want to get in on the denim shoe trend, here are some styles to check out:

This is one of my current favorite shoes and it’s available in a limited-edition denim version exclusively at Akira: the Sam Edelman Lorissa for $183.90. Update: This pair is now also available at Nordstrom for $225.

Update: Here’s another one from Sam Edelman and I had to add it because I am soooo loving it. The Sam Edelman Novato in light blue for $90 at Lori’s Shoes or $99.95 at Nordstrom.

The Fever Monica in bleached denim for $200 at Fever Shoes.

The Rachel Roy Idana for $99.99 at Macy’s. Apply code PRESIDENT to get 10% off, making them $89.99, through 2/21/11. I’m also hoping the Rachel Roy Kimi in light blue with red glitter platform might make a comeback after being sold out - love!!

The Jeffrey Campbell Hill Boot in blue denim for $220 at Karmaloop. Coupon code JUST4U takes 20% off for a limited time, making them $176.

The Miss Me Woody-5 for $54.10 at Endless.

The Sergio Zelcer Witt for $136.32 in limited sizes at Endless. See all Sergio Zelcer for more denim styles.

The Dr. Scholl’s Bombshell denim flat for $29 at Endless.

The Matisse Slade for $34.98 at 6pm or $32.49 at Sears.

The Guess Bilsor in limited sizes for $76.97 at 6pm.

I mentioned in my last post that Jeffrey Campbell tends to draw inspiration from high-end designers for some of their styles, but I never expected to see the Jeffrey Campbell Salvatore (pictured above). I noticed this shoe at Solestruck over the weekend and it definitely caught me by surprise because this shoe happens to be a near-replica of a shoe from way back in the archives of shoe history and one that I recognized from a post I did before:

If you haven’t seen this shoe, here’s a little history: It’s the ‘Rainbow’ shoe from famous shoe designer, Salvatore Ferragamo, who created this style in 1938 during The Great Depression. He made these for Judy Garland (note: click 1930-1940 at the link to see the shoe), in an apparent nod to her “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” song from The Wizard of Oz (he also made her ruby slippers!). They are currently on display at the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum in Florence, Italy and were remade in 2010 as part of Ferragamo’s Creations, a limited-edition line of shoes by Ferragamo (which is still a family-run company) that replicated shoes from early in the company’s archives. The year 2010 marked the 50th anniversary of the death of Salvatore Ferragamo in 1960 and, in addition to reissuing select shoes that he made, Ferragamo also had a special exhibition at the Salvatore Feragamo Museum to commemorate the event.

It’s amazing to me that shoes as modern-looking as the Rainbow were made over 70 years ago, but Ferragamo was definitely a man ahead of his time. He is credited as being the original creator of many shoe styles that are widely worn and imitated today: wedge heels, platform heels, metal-reinforced stiletto heels (made famous by Marilyn Monroe), cage heels and many more can all be traced back to his work. He paved the way for making shoes with materials other than leather, like cork, metal wire, raffia and wood and he also made strides in the area of shoe comfort, studying anatomy and finding that arch support was key. He held over 350 patents for his many inventions and we all enjoy the fruits of his labor and discoveries to this day. He is a true shoe pioneer and you can see more detail on his history here.

Back to the Jeffrey Campbell Salvatore. This Ferragamo knockoff, also available in a nude version in addition to the gold pair at the top, was just posted for sale for $184.95 at Solestruck on Saturday and it sold out in a mere two days. Given the history of this shoe and its uniqueness, it’s not hard to see why. It was quite a bold move for JC to produce a look-alike version for an iconic shoe like this, but when you think about Salvatore’s many innovations in the area of shoes, you come to the conclusion that almost any shoes available now are inspired by him in one way or another. For that, we owe a big thanks to Ferragamo and his legacy, which is still going strong today.
Update: Urban Outfitters has a couple sizes in this shoe with a white upper for $199. It’s now known as the Jeffrey Campbell Groovy (sold out). Update 5/18/11: Lori’s Shoes has the Jeffrey Campbell Gidget for $152. It has the same rainbow platform with a nude leather thong style on the upper.

It’s hard to believe the holidays are already upon us, but I absolutely love this time of year, especially for the array of fancy party shoes we start to see everywhere. The Betsey Johnson Impress has quickly become my first shoe love this holiday season with its gorgeous blue velvet and sparkly cluster of sequins and beads. Yes, it had me at “hello” the moment I saw it featured at Endless in this picture:

This is a perfect style for brides looking for something blue for their wedding shoes - if I wasn’t already married, I’d be all over it - but its also a festive option if you plan to get dressed up for upcoming holiday parties and events. You can find them at Endless for $175 and, since they are currently offering $25 off $100 on select evening shoes, you can get them on discount for $150. They also come in black and free overnight shipping is included. The $25 off promotion ends 11/24/10.

When I spotted the Miss Me Adella-7 (pictured above) at Endless, there was something about the half strappy gold, half solid black upper that struck me as familiar. Then I remembered a similar black and gold pair that Solange Knowles wore last year during a promotional appearance made with sister Beyonce at the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel in Japan. The half sandal, half bootie shoes she wore are the Moschino Cheap & Chic shoe boots (thanks to Fashionista 101 for the brand ID):

Obviously, the Moschino pair takes the split personality concept much further by incorporating a full bootie on one side and a sandal on the other. The Miss Me option isn’t quite as avant-garde in that respect, but it does provide a comparable look at a much more budget-friendly price. If you love the Moschino shoes, you can still find them in limited sizes at YOOX in black/gold for $350 or in fuschia/black for $360. Or, spend less on the $59.95 Miss Me pair at Endless. It also comes in fuschia/black, blue/silver and green/white.

Did you guys catch the MTV VMAs last night? I did, and there was definitely some amazing performances, loads of celebs in attendance, and plenty of fashion to check out. At the helm of it all was host Chelsea Handler, who I must say looked sizzling hot in her LBD and t-strap platforms in black and silver during the opening act of the show. As an added bonus, Chelsea clearly shows that it’s always possible to defend yourself just fine, even when wearing 4+ inch heels:

You’ve gotta feel for the little red man on the receiving end of that kick.
You can get Chelsea’s fierce Gucci Keira shoes for yourself by heading over to Neiman Marcus, where they are available for $775. For something far less expensive, here are some more black t-strap sandals to pick from:

Fergie Joust in black for $41.24 in most sizes (prices vary based on size) at Amazon.

Nine West Graceymai on sale for $29.99 at Nine West.

Steve Madden Glitsi in black for $39.98 at Amazon.

Nina Ulrica for $99.95 at Zappos.

I spotted Claire Danes in head-to-toe Valentino while browsing through the latest US Weekly and I had to take note of how gorgeous she is here. Claire, who donned this look while in Paris to attend the Valentino show, is wearing a romantic, ultra-feminine ruffled dress and she toughens it up just a smidge with these shoes:

The Valentino Studded T-Strap Pump is a sophisticated pump with a nice dose of edge courtesy of the pyramid studs, which look like small spikes. This is a great way to apply to current spike trend we’re seeing everywhere, including on shoes, in a much more subtle way for those times when a more elegant look is in order. You can splurge and get the Valentino pair for $895 at Nordstrom (currently on pre-order), but we also have some similar, less expensive shoes as an alternative:

The Boutique 9 Zola in grey or black for $150 at Nine West. Shipping is free on $50 or more for a limited time. Or, get them at Endless for the same price with free overnight shipping.

The Charles David Techie for $138 in champagne or $115 in black (MSRP $230) at 6pm.

The Pour La Victoire Danya in whiskey on sale for $104 (list price $285.95) at Amazon. This pair doesn’t have spikes, but the t-strap design and raised pyramid studs make it a viable option. It’s also available in black or red and the price depends on the color/size combination selected.
