Shoe Trends Fall 2010: Boots with the fur (with the fur!)

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

I couldn’t resist the Flo Rida reference in the title but, hey, it works when it comes to one of the big shoe trends for fall.  Betty Wang, senior buyer of designer shoes at Saks Fifth Avenue, told the New York Times that fur boots are the hottest selling shoes at Saks Fifth Avenue right now, both fur-lined boots and boots with fur on the outside of the shoe.  Although she references the pricey Jimmy Choo Yule and the Christian Louboutin Toundra, you can always apply the trend for much, much less.  Fur-lined boots are always comfy-cozy, but today’s post is more about form than function; i.e. fur on the outside.  I like the Sam Edelman Shalin (pictured above) because it uses quite an extensive amount of fur, but still manages to look sleek and stylish.  You can get it at Karmaloop for $200 and apply coupon code SAVE20 for 20% off and free shipping, making them $160.  Here’s some more fur styles, at moderate price points, that I’ve been checking out:

The Nine West Priska, a similar, but lower-priced, alternative for the Christian Louboutin Toundra that was also mentioned in a recent Rachel Zoe Report.  This pair is available for $149 at Nine West.

The Naughty Monkey D Lux for $79 at Shoes.com and $63.20 after applying coupon code VISA (exp. 2/28/11, may require Visa payment).

The Anne Michelle Savior 56 for $53 at LuLu’s.  A more casual option is also available at LuLu’s, the Wanted Tundra for $57.

The Skechers Struts for $79 at Amazon.

The Bearpaw Kaska for $84.99 - $89.95 depending on size/color selection at Amazon.

Dolce Vita Tatum for $240 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Update: Here’s another one I like, the Aldo Vanderau for $110 at Aldo.

Note that all of the boots pictured here are made of faux fur with the exception of the Dolce Vita pair.

Blend your Trends: Leopard + OTK boot = Sam Edelman James

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

If you like to follow trends, you know that leopard print is kind of a big deal right now.  Leopard has long had its place in fashion and animal prints are always around, but it’s been bigger than ever this fall and we’ve been seeing it everywhere.  Another ongoing trend that’s been popular for the last year or so is wearing over-the-knee boots, a style that’s typically known for being overtly sexy, but has adapted quite readily into everyday wear.  It’s always fun to follow the latest trends and show the world you know what’s up, but giving in to every fashion whim can definitely hit the wallet pretty hard.  That’s why it makes sense to combine your trends and get more bang for your buck.  The Sam Edelman James boot does just that and combines the leopard and OTK trends seamlessly.  While they are daring, the flat heel tones it down a bit, although I’d still wear them with something somewhat understated to get the ideal effect.  You can get these shoes at Karmaloop for $275 and apply coupon code SAVE20 to reduce them to $220 with free shipping.  For the black or “putty” color options, see Piperlime, Bloomingdales, Shopbop, Endless or Zappos.

Sale Spotlight: 25% off shoes at Lord & Taylor for Friends & Family sale

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

I love a good Friends and Family sale and I also love the shoes at Lord & Taylor, which works out quite well considering L&T is having such a sale and taking 25% off both regular and sale items via coupon code FRIENDS.  Of course, that includes their wide selection of drool-worthy women’s shoes and I’m seeing way too many styles I want right now at great prices.  For instance, L.A.M.B. shoes are known to be quite pricey, but the L.A.M.B. Glamorous bootie pictured above is on sale for $209.99 and is further reduced to $157.49 after the coupon.  That’s quite a markdown from the retail price of $295 and lower than what other stores are offering at the moment.  Here are some more of my faves:

Plenty by Tracy Reese Piper for $149 before discount and $111.75 after.  Also available in black.  Update: Piperlime has a better price for this pair - $99.99 in black or brown and free shipping.  The sale price may end 10/24/10.

Dolce Vita Holt in black or grey on sale for $99.59 (retail $159) and $74.69 after coupon.

Steven by Steve Madden Maiya on sale for $129.99 (retail $189) and $97.49 after coupon.  Also available in black.

Calvin Klein Rayven on sale for $129.99 (retail $159) and $97.49 after coupon.

Poetic Licence Encoure on sale for $100.08 (retail $139) and $75.06 after coupon.  Also available in black.

Shipping is free on $150 or more and the sale ends 10/24/10.  Some exclusions apply.

15% off LuLu’s coupon: Save on Jeffrey Campbell K-Genius knockoff & more cute shoes

Friday, October 15th, 2010

LuLu’s doesn’t offer coupons all that often, but this weekend they are celebrating their CEO’s birthday by giving their customers a discount.  You can get 15% off your order by applying coupon code CEO-SALE during checkout, plus shipping is free on $75 or more.  That takes a nice bite off the prices of their selection of fun and trendy shoes - many of which are designer-inspired - as well as the Jeffrey Campbell styles they offer.  If you like the buckled up look of the Jeffrey Campbell K-Genius in grey (above, left), you can get it for $130.90 after the coupon, but it’s practically sold out.  However, they also offer the lookalike Privileged Kyoko in black (above, right) for much less at $39.95 after the code.  They have it in olive too, but only a few sizes are left.  Here are a couple more styles I noticed:

Dolce Vita Marilyn knockoff, the Charles Albert New 1769 in black for $49.30 after discount.

The Mixx Amparo 02 champagne mesh pump with rhinestone studded heel for $34.85 after discount.

See the entire selection of shoes at LuLu’s for many more options.  The coupon expires tomorrow, 10/16/10.

Columbus Day shoe sales + shoe news

Saturday, October 9th, 2010

If you’re on the hunt for your latest pair of cute shoes, it’s definitely a good time to shop while many stores are having shoe sales for Columbus Day.  There are plenty of ways to save while shoe shopping this weekend and I’ve gathered up some of the best bargains I’ve seen so you can keep your feet fashionable and your wallet happy (which is always a win).  Plus, I’ve thrown a bit of interesting shoes news in for good measure.  Here’s what I found:

DSW was offering a free purse with a $39.95 or more order as of yesterday, but unfortunately they have already sold out.  The good news?  They are now offering $10 off a purchase of $10 or more using coupon code 7921DSW at checkout (exp 10/12) instead and you can stack it with their 920 code for 10% off and SHIPR for free shipping on $35 or more.  That cuts the price on the Moda Spana Chase Pump in leopard pictured above from $54.95 to $39.46 shipped.  All of these codes require signing into your DSW account.

Lord and Taylor takes 15% off your order using coupon code CDAY or, if you pay with a L&T credit card, CDAYPLUS (you get another 10% off that way).  They are also having a boot sale that takes 25% off one pair or 30% off two or more automatically at checkout.  When you combine the two offers, you definitely have the potential to save big.  The military-inspired Nine West Donley pictured above is normally $129.95 and drops to $96.75 in cart after 25% off, then to $82.24 after the CDAY code.

Macy’s is also having a buy more, save more sale on their selection of shoes.  Their Great Shoe Sale takes 15% off one pair, 20% off two or 30% off three or more when you enter GREATSHOES at checkout.  Shipping is also free on $99 or more.  You can find the biggest savings in clearance shoes, which are already reduced an additional 25% right now and are also eligible for the extra savings with the coupon.  For example, the Dolce Vita Cadiz mesh bootie above is marked down from $70 to $52.50 (retail $100) and is further reduced to just $36.76 after coupon.

Nine West is taking an extra 30% off select shoes and boots during their Columbus Day Sale.  The New Balance for Nine West Celestina lace sneaker above is way too cute and you can get it for $62.30 instead of $89 after the discount.  Shipping is also free.

Shoes.com takes an extra 25% off sale shoes with coupon code 25SALE until 10/11.

At Payless, buy one and get 50% off your second item during the last few days of their latest BOGO sale (exp. 10/11).  Get another 20% off your order with coupon code 30526 (exp. 10/31).

Guess takes 50% off select shoes and shipping is free.

Get an extra 25% off clearance at Aldo through 10/11 and free shipping.

Now, on to some shoe news:

A Mariah Carey shoe line is coming soon.  The singer is working with HSN on a collection of jewelry, footwear and perfume with a butterfly theme, which will be available at the end of November.

Steve Madden bought out Betsey Johnson and there’s also talk of a Katy Perry Steve Madden partnership in the works.

The world’s largest shoe department - in both physical size and the number of shoes offered for sale - opened last month at Selfridges in London.  The Shoe Galleries displays over 5,000 pairs of shoes.

She plays the ultimate shoe lover as Carrie on Sex and the City, but Sarah Jessica Parker tells In Touch magazine (in the October 4 issue) that she only owns seven pair of shoes.  If true, she must do a whole lot of borrowing from the designers for all of her fab red carpet looks (and who knew she was such a minimalist?).  On the other end of the spectrum, Kimora Lee Simmons admits to having “thousands” of shoes and closets all over the country to house her collection.

That’s all for now.  Have a great weekend!

Boots to love for fall: Jeffrey Campbell Ours Boot

Monday, October 4th, 2010

When shopping for boots, we often choose styles in black or in brown for versatility, but it’s not too often that you see one that’s exactly half of each.  That’s what makes this Jeffrey Campbell Ours Boot a sure standout.  It’s brown on one side and black on the other and the 4″ heel is a patchwork of both.  It’s definitely a very cool look for those who love to make a statement, although I imagine the calf hair it’s made of takes extra care to maintain (not something to wear on a rainy day, I’m sure):

You can get this style at Karmaloop for $170 and coupon code SAVE20 takes 20% off full-priced items and applies free shipping on $100 or more.  That reduces your total to $136 shipped.  The expiration of the code is unknown.
