Shoe Buzz: Halle Berry in movie about shoes, Dolce Vita for Target, Worishofer, more

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

I’ve noticed plenty of shoes in the news lately, so I thought I’d gather up some of the latest, most interesting things I’ve seen, mix ‘em up real good and have a little Shoe Buzz roundup.  We’ve got a new Hollywood flick about shoe addicts, “granny” footwear having a fashion moment, a Dolce Vita budget line and more.  So, what are we waiting for?  Let’s dig in:

As a shoe lover, I get giddy when I hear about a new movie that’s all about the shoes.  Especially when the lead actress is none other than Oscar-winner Halle Berry, who is set to star in the movie Shoe Addicts Anonymous.  The film, which will be out in Fall 2011, is a comedy based on the book of the same name by Beth Harbison.  Apparently won’t be much of a stretch for Berry, who “loves shoes” according to a producer.

Dolce Vita is the latest company to collaborate with Target on an affordable fashion line, which is fittingly called Dolce Vita for Target.  There’s a selection of five different styles available at Target’s website, most of which are very menswear-inspired, and all at much more budget-friendly prices than the usual Dolce Vita fare.  The Dolce Vita for Target Buckle Ankle Boots pictured above are $34.99, which is the highest you’ll pay for any of the shoes available right now.  They are expected to be in stores by August 22.

My very cool mom, who is always on the lookout for shoe-related info for me (thanks Ma!), let me know that Worishofer shoes were just featured on the CBS Today Show.  The German-made line of “granny” shoes (their description, not mine) are well-known for providing a high level of comfort.  Ruthie from Styleite.com was on hand to provide tips on how to wear them without looking, well, geriatric.  One shoe featured was the Worishofer 583 lace-up sandal (pictured above), which was paired with jeans and looked pretty cute.  Apparently, the “sandals so ugly they’re stylish” (again, their words) are a celeb fave and the brand, which has been available in the U.S. since the 1970’s, has been enjoying a nice surge in popularity in the past couple of years. You can find Worishofer at Endless from $42 - $75.

Seen on The Cut: You can combine a love of pretty shoes with a love of smelling pretty with the new fragrance called Beyond from Anna Dello Russo, who is currently Editor at Large and creative consultant for Vogue Japan.  The almond and vanilla scented perfume will be housed in a golden shoe, which I imagine would be a nice little decorative keepsake once the fragrance runs out.  It will be available by the holidays.

Is there a correlation between an economic downturn and an upturn of heel height on shoes?  Apparently so, as this New York Times article explains.  During a recession, we typically see higher heels, like the over 5-inch heel on the shoe pictured above, which was created by Salvatore Ferragamo during The Great Depression.

There’s a new trend for au naturel, prehistoric-inspired shoes, like the one pictured above which will be available at a store near you this fall.  Ok, I’m kidding…this is actually thought to be the world’s oldest known leather shoe that was recently discovered perfectly preserved in a cave in Armenia and estimated to be 5,500 years old.  These are considered to be very high quality for the time and were likely very expensive.

Finally, we have a resource for buying and selling shoes online.  I received an email from Ellen at If The Shoe Doesn’t Fit, which is an auction site where people can sell, swap or shop for shoes.  She let me know that there’s a coupon code SOLES for two free listings and you can also use coupon code SHOES to get five more free listings (expiration unknown).  Update: The SOLES coupon is available indefinitely, while the SHOES coupon is good for 12 months.

That’s all for now, but have a happy Wednesday!

The Jeffrey Campbell Tick transforms

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The Jeffrey Campbell Tick is a shoe that has taken on a life of it’s own.  It all started with the solid leather black wedge bootie version that was reinvented with the addition of a thumbtack-studded heel and it has since kept going and going, changing and morphing into various forms along the way.  Ticksters now have even more ways to get their tack on with new styles, like the Jeffrey Campbell Why Stop (pictured above) for $164 in black or brown at Karmaloop.  Yes, why stop, when there are so many possibilities for this bold look?  We have many more Tick varieties to check out, each of which are all tacked up and rarin’ to go:

Totally Futuristic: The Jeffrey Campbell Robot with metal plating for $234.95 at Solestruck.

Freddy Krueger-approved: The Jeffrey Campbell Slash Low, a scaled-down version of the Jeffrey Campbell Slash TK (almost sold out), for $179.95 in white or black at Solestruck.

More slashed-up action: The Jeffrey Campbell Giggle Tic, which sold out quickly the first time it was offered at Karmaloop, is back for $200 - and almost sold out again.

Not shy: The nude Jeffrey Campbell Tick for $164 at Karmaloop or $169.95 at Solestruck.

Closed up shop: The Jeffrey Campbell Ticket (i.e. the Tick sans peep toe) in black/silver or black/gold for $169.95 at Solestruck.

Folded Over & Zipped Up: The Jeffrey Campbell South Street for $188 at Karmaloop or $159.79 at Eilatan.

Classic: The Jeffrey Campbell Tick in black leather or natural burlap for $150 at Karmaloop or in black, natural burlap or white for $169.95 at Solestruck.

Heavy metal: The bronze Jeffrey Campbell Tick for $150 at Karmaloop or $142.79 at Eilatan.

Wild thing: The tribal Jeffrey Campbell Tick for $150 at Karmaloop or $169.95 at Solestruck.  Update: We also have the cheetah and zebra Jeffrey Campbell Tick Fur for $179.95 at Solestruck.

One more: The Jeffrey Campbell Riddle Tack for $151.29 at Eilatan.  Update: There’s also the similar Jeffrey Campbell Tickle Tack for $122.39 at Eilatan.

Note: For purchases at Karmaloop, use coupon code CLINTON to get 20% off your first order and 10% off thereafter (expiration unknown) or code 15FAB for 15% off until 7/31/10.  Solestruck offers free shipping on $99 or on any order for repeat customers (requires log in).

Dolce Vita Marilyn knockoff, the N.Y.L.A. Webebe + DSW coupon

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

DSW is dishing out the discounts right now with their new coupon code TOPTIER, which takes $10 off $49, $25 off $99 and $50 off $199 at checkout if you sign in to your DSW account.  There’s definitely something for everyone in their wide selection of women’s shoes, but I spotted a new arrival that’s a dead ringer for the Dolce Vita boots Miley Cyrus and Kim Cattrall (as Samantha Jones) wore in Sex and the City 2.  The Dolce Vita Marilyn from the movie is all but sold out - as is the lookalike version from Bebe, the Bebe Jenna - but now we have another style for anyone who wants to rock a tall strappy boot with a bedazzled minidress (or, perhaps, jeans).  It’s the N.Y.L.A. Webebe in tan, black or grey and DSW has them priced at $129.95.  With the code, your total drops to $104.95.  That’s quite a bit less than the Bebe or the Dolce Vita boots and you can also get free shipping by adding SHIPR along with the other coupon.  The TOPTIER coupon expires 7/26/10 and doesn’t apply to Skechers Shape-Ups or Reebok Easy Tones.

Shoe Buzz: Sex and the City 2 shoe style for less

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Sex and the City 2 is finally out today (yay!) and I won’t be braving the theatres on premier day, although I will attempt to check it out this weekend.  In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to round up all of the shoes we’ve seen so far that are either in the movie or associated with it (i.e. premiers, etc).  Since we know the Sex and the City 2 ladies are always extravagent and over-the-top with fashion - the cost of their wardrobe is said to have been around $10 million - I’ve also found lookalike options that are far less expensive.  These are the shoes we’ve seen in the movie photos and info released up until now, some of which I’ve covered in my previous Sex and the City 2 shoes posts, but now you can see them all in one big super-post.  I’m sure the movie itself will provide plenty of additional footwear eye candy, so I’ll add more as I see them.

We’ll start with the gold heels Sarah Jessica Parker wears as Carrie Bradshaw in her white dress, which is one of my favorite looks so far.  I love the gold and white combo and how the simplicity of the dress allows the shoes to really shine.  These appear to be Christian Louboutin Pigalle Strass heels, but they aren’t available for purchase online (the Halston Heritage white dress is available at Neiman Marcus for $325 though).  However, I did find some similarly sparkly shoes that are sold for less:

H by Halston Stella gold glitter pumps for $79.95 exclusively at Bakers Shoes.  These are also available in silver glitter, multi glitter and brown, white or black leather.

Chinese Laundry Ladybug in gold for $79.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Enzo Angiolini Merryann in gold and silver for $79.95 at Nordstrom.  The stock photo really doesn’t do this pair justice.  Check out the Goldenmeans blog to see just how gorgeous these look on.

We also see Carrie wearing the Christian Louboutin Bridget Strass in SATC2.  These are also unavailable online, but we have a close lookalike from Dollhouse:

The gold version of the Dollhouse Tano is available at Dollhouse.com for $54.  Or, you can opt for the all black Tano, which DSW offers for $49.95.  Get $10 off at DSW with code TAKE10 (must login) until 6/28 and free shipping with code FREESHIP at checkout.  Update: Amazon has the Dollhouse Tano in red/black, gold/black or all black marked down to $41.97 with free shipping.

We see the Christian Louboutin Gino t-strap sandal on Carrie with her bright blue dress.  Again, these are unavailable for sale online and there aren’t too many close lookalikes that I see.  But, these less expensive shoes offer some of the same elements, resulting in a similar look:

Charles by Charles David Racey for $68.77 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Betsey Johnson Lavant for $133 at 6pm.

Cri de Coeur Elegance for $100 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Sarah Jessica Parker looked amazing at the Sex and the City 2 premier in yellow Valentino and dark silver Salvatore Ferragamo double platform heels.  This Steve Madden pair provides a nice alternative:

Steve Madden Caryssa for $89.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  Get $15 off $80 with coupon code STATMNTI for a limited time (see site for additional codes that apply to larger purchases).

Sarah Jessica changes into a black dress and bold Nicholas Kirkwood shoes for the premier after-party.  These shoes are sold at Browns, but they are currently out of stock with more coming soon (Update: The version without pink piping is available at luisaviaroma.com for $1,242.40).  This is another unique pair that’s hard to find lookalikes for, but these shoes come close:

Michael Antonio Toki in purple or grey for $66.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless or for $59.90 with free shipping on $75 or more at FlyJane.

Cut-Out Colorblock Peep Toe Heel for $30 at GoJane.

The Brian Atwood Loca in lavender is worn by Carrie with her plaid shirt and cropped jeans.  The Loca was available at Net-a-Porter for $800, but is now sold out (more stock may be coming soon).  Neiman Marcus has the black and antique brass versions available for $800 and Bergdorf has them for $815.  If you’re looking for a more affordable lavender studded heel lookalike for the Loca, try this pair:

The Steve Madden Twilitte is available at Steve Madden for $109.95 and you can get 25% off and free shipping with coupon code FF25 until 5/31/10.  It also comes in black.

Update: Here’s a Brian Atwood Loca knockoff from GoJane.  It’s $29.90 and comes in black, grey or red.

Miley Cyrus makes a cameo in the movie and she’s dressed identical to Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall, even down to their strappy boots.  These are the Dolce Vita Marilyn, available in very limited sizes at Endless, but almost sold out completely everywhere.  Bebe has a practically identical version, the Bebe Jenna, which is also out of stock (with more coming soon it appears).  For less expensive lookalikes, see this post or check out this pair that reminds me of the Marilyn, except in a lighter, more summer-y way:

Guess Blarney for $140 in black or brown at Guess.com.

Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha Jones is seen wearing the $148 Patricia Field Classic Polly shoes in white and gold.  You can find these and more shoes by Patricia Field at Patriciafield.com.

The iconic Manolo Blahnik Something Blue shoes make a cameo in SATC2 as part of the shoes in Carrie’s closet.  You can get the real deal at Bergdorf Goodman for $945 or try these blue satin lookalikes for less:

Martinez Valero Zenith Blue for $154.99 at Sears.

RSVP Zaza for $99 with free shipping at Zappos.

Charlotte wears purple peep toe platforms in the movie and the shoes help Carrie locate her in a crowded Abu Dhabi market.  I’m not sure exactly what kind of shoes these are, but the Paris Hilton Sashay in purple is a pretty alternative that looks quite similar.

You can get these for $69.30 at 6pm.

Charlotte also wears the pink and white Christian Louboutin Very Croise platform sandal (seen at Polyvore).  For more affordable shoes that aren’t exact, but have similar design elements and/or colors, try these:

The Shiekh Catwalk 22 in black and white for $25 at Shiekhshoes.com.  It’s also available in four additional color options.

Another option from Shiekhshoes, the Shiekh Persia-01.  This is actually a lookalike for another designer pair, but it has the same pink and white combo.  These are $44.97.

Get the same color combo in sandal form with the Guess Knotted platform for $98.95 at Endless.  Get $15 more off using coupon code STATMNTI at checkout for a limited time.

Carrie wears a pair of black and blue booties with her green dress that are from Pierre Hardy.  I couldn’t find these shoes online, but the blog Better In Boots has some more info/pics.  For a less expensive option, try this pair:

Fergie Jolt for $48.98 with free shipping at Amazon.

When Carrie runs into Aiden in the Abu Dhabi market, she wears a Dior t-shirt with a long, full skirt and pink suede sandals.  The pink shoes worn by Sarah Jessica Parker are the Manolo Blahnik Lezza, which are unavailable for sale online but you can see a picture of the black version over at Coolspotters.  For a similar alternative, try these shoes:

Pour La Victoire Bridgette in fuschia for $163.90 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Dollhouse Esina for $49.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  This pair is also a lookalike for this Giuseppe Zanotti sandal.

United Nude Cup Goddess for $194.95 at Endless.

Chinese Laundry sale up to 70% off at 6pm

Friday, May 7th, 2010

6pm has over 100 styles of Chinese Laundry shoes on sale starting today with discounts of up to 70% off.  That puts some styles as low as $17 and others as high as $74, plus everything in-between.  I see plenty of cute shoes in this selection at great prices, like the Chinese Laundry Sassyfras sandal (above) in red, taupe or black for $53.40.  I’ve mentioned this pair before, but the 6pm price is quite a bit lower than what I saw then and a bargain compared to other stores that currently offer it.  Here’s a couple more styles with big savings:

Chinese Laundry Wiz in grey, black or brown for $26.70 (regularly $89).

Chinese Laundry Frenchie in bronze or black for $26.70 (regularly $89).  Update: Get an even better price at Shoemall, where this pair is marked down to $31.99.  Apply coupon code PRCNT15 to get 15% off, making them $27.19 with free shipping (6pm charges extra for shipping).

Chinese Laundry Ashanti in white or multi for $29.95 (originally $99).

The sale ends 5/9/10.

Message from Princess: Shoe sales galore this weekend

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I’ve been seeing plenty of really good shoe sales going on, so I had to round them up for those of you who may be shoe shopping this weekend.  If you’re craving a hot new pair of shoes, but need them to be light on the wallet too, check these stores out:

$5

$5

$5

$5

I have to start with Sears because they have some unbelievably low prices on their shoes right now.  Sears may not be first place we think of when buying shoes, but they do offer some well-known brands and - wow - these prices are insane.  They are taking an extra 50% off women’s clearance boots and when you look at the shoes, you’d think many of them are already marked down, but you actually get the extra discount at checkout.  Boots aren’t typically on the brain this time of year, but when they start at $2.50 after discount you can’t go wrong.  For example, the MIA Amore McBeavy moto boot (pictured above, at left) or the Laundry List Trishelle (pictured above, at right) are just $5 each.  Plus, there are plenty of other boots to choose from, many of which are under $25 before discount and $12.50 or less after.  Besides boots, Sears is also taking 30% off clearance shoes at checkout, including athletic shoes from brands like New Balance, Skechers and Adidas.  The sale ends 4/17/10.

$13.97

American Eagle is once again taking an extra 30% off clearance items, including clearance shoes.  They don’t have free shipping this time around, at least not right now, but you can still get cute flats and sandals for very low prices.  I like the AE Leopard Sandal (pictured above left), which is a new arrival to the clearance section and is priced at $24.99 before discount and $17.47 after (originally $29.50).  We also had a commenter in my previous American Eagle sale post that said she was liking the AE Soft Ballet Flat in light blue (pictured above right).  It’s a great color and available for only $13.97 after discount (originally $29.50), although sizes are getting a bit limited.  The sale ends 4/20/10.

Nine West is having their Friends and Family Sale, which always means a sweet discount.  Get 30% off regularly-priced items by applying coupon code NWFRND4 at checkout and shipping is discounted to $5.  I’m loving the sandal featured on their homepage, the super-sexy Nine West Consuela for $89.  It’s available in 4 colors and you can get it for $62.30 after discount.  The sale ends 4/12/10.

Macy’s is having a Great Shoe Sale, which is a buy more, save more sale that takes 15% off 1 pair of shoes, 20% off 2 and 30% off 3.  Many sale items are also included, which is extra-nice since there isn’t a purchase minimum to get these discounts.  Gear up your spring and summer wardrobe with the shoes pictured above, (from left) the Chinese Laundry Block Party for $49, the Marc Fisher Sal for $89 and the Enzo Angiolini Fiama for $89.  You can get 15% off any one of these or 20% off any two, but the real savings come in when you buy all 3 for $158.90 rather than $227, which is $68 off (and kind of like getting a free pair).  Shipping is free on $75 or more with coupon code FIRSTSTEP until 4/17/10.  Sale expiration is unknown.

6pm has some weekend brand-specific super sales going on.  Get up to 65% off Steve Madden, up to 65% off HUGO Hugo Boss shoes, up to 65% off Cole Haan boots, up to 75% off Enzo Angiolini and more.  These sales end 4/11/10.

Shoe Woo, a new site that sells Jones Apparel brand shoes such as Nine West, Anne Klein, Enzo Angiolini and licensed brand Rachel Roy, takes 30% off any regularly-priced order at checkout during their first Friends and Family sale.  One of my faves, the Boutique 9 Val, is reduced from $199 to $139.30 with $5 shipping.  It’s expected to ship 5/11, but it also shows as being on backorder, so it’s possible there’s some additional delay.  The sale ends 4/12/10.

That’s all for now, but I’ll add more sales over the weekend if I see them.  Have a great one!

Kelsi Dagger Brandi for $124 at Karmaloop + Jeffrey Campbell Giggle Tic boot

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Kelsi Dagger shoes have really been grabbing my attention lately, as you can tell from the two pairs I mentioned in my spring shoes trends post.  The brand was launched just last year by Pour La Victoire designers David Giordano and Jay Adoni as a unique take on a junior’s shoe line.  And different it is - the shoes have definitely managed to stand out in a crowded shoe market for me.  According to the Kelsi Dagger website, the brand name is derived from a fictional English femme fatale and ”Kelsi Dagger is confident, independent, slightly dangerous and speaks to the accelerating velocity of how young people live today.”  Case in point: The Kelsi Dagger Brandi, a new arrival over at Karmaloop, which is a perfect mix of rock chick and glam.  I love the wide ankle wrap with circular cutouts and the generous use of sparkly rhinestones on this pair but, even aside from pure looks, Kelsi Dagger shoes are quite moderately priced as well.  Of course, I’m all about getting things on sale, so it works out that Karmaloop always seems to have a coupon that will discount your purchase.  You can currently use 20% off coupon code CLINTON to drop the price on this pair from $155 to $124.  The expiration date on the coupon is unknown and shipping is extra.

Another standout new arrival from Karmaloop is the Jeffrey Campbell Giggle Tic gladiator boot, the latest reincarnation of the Jeffrey Campbell Tick.  I have to admit I like the Tick in wedge bootie form better, but you can’t deny the all-out drama factor of this pair.  There are only 3 sizes left (7, 8, 9), but you can get this style for $160 instead of $200 at Karmaloop if you apply 20% off coupon CLINTON at checkout.

Update 7/8: The Giggle Tic sold out quick the first time at Karmaloop, but it’s back in stock.  For how long, I don’t know.
