Brian Atwood RZ Boots with chains from The Rachel Zoe Project

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

In last night’s episode of Bravo’s The Rachel Zoe Project, shoe designer Brian Atwood made an appearance to meet with Rachel - who donned her signature white robe for him - and we learned that he’s always wanted to design a shoe for her.  It’s no wonder, since Rachel has long professed her admiration for Atwood’s shoes, namely in her very first Zoe Report.  Fast forward to one-year later and Rachel has her very own namesake pair to die over, literally, for the anniversary of her website: the over-the-knee RZ Boots she and Brian designed together.  We saw a bit of the creative brainstorming process during last night’s episode and, in the end, Rachel decided on an OTK platform boot with chain detail in the back and, of course, a “tranny” heel.  The boot is available for sale now, so let’s take a closer look:

I’m definitely feeling the chain detail (zoom in to really check it out) and it’s certainly a hot style.  We’ve seen Rachel in a lot of over-the-knee boots this season, so I imagine she wouldn’t have any trouble integrating this one into her fab wardrobe.  If it’s a must-have for you and you have $2,900 to spend, you can get the Brian Atwood Chain-Back Over-The-Knee Boot at Neiman Marcus.  (Update: The links I entered that go directly to the product page don’t want to work correctly for some reason, but I updated the link so it goes to the Brian Atwood page.  Right now, it’s the first shoe listed).  For those of us that don’t have 3K to spend (wowza), here’s a less expensive alternative I found that also offers plenty of dramatic detail along the back.  Like the Atwood pair, this boot is perfect making a statement, especially when walking away:

The Nine West Hobbs doesn’t have chains and it’s more like a corset boot with lacing all the way up the back, but the detailing is similar and it’s over the knee with a high heel and platform.  You can get it at Nine West on pre-order for $209 with free shipping.  It’s expected to ship by 11/23.

Claire Danes in Valentino Studded T-Strap Pumps + shoes with spike studs for less

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

I spotted Claire Danes in head-to-toe Valentino while browsing through the latest US Weekly and I had to take note of how gorgeous she is here.  Claire, who donned this look while in Paris to attend the Valentino show, is wearing a romantic, ultra-feminine ruffled dress and she toughens it up just a smidge with these shoes:

The Valentino Studded T-Strap Pump is a sophisticated pump with a nice dose of edge courtesy of the pyramid studs, which look like small spikes.  This is a great way to apply to current spike trend we’re seeing everywhere, including on shoes, in a much more subtle way for those times when a more elegant look is in order.  You can splurge and get the Valentino pair for $895 at Nordstrom (currently on pre-order), but we also have some similar, less expensive shoes as an alternative:

The Boutique 9 Zola in grey or black for $150 at Nine West.  Shipping is free on $50 or more for a limited time.  Or, get them at Endless for the same price with free overnight shipping.

The Charles David Techie for $138 in champagne or $115 in black (MSRP $230) at 6pm.

The Pour La Victoire Danya in whiskey on sale for $104 (list price $285.95) at Amazon.  This pair doesn’t have spikes, but the t-strap design and raised pyramid studs make it a viable option.  It’s also available in black or red and the price depends on the color/size combination selected.

Shoes from MTV The Hills finale: Kristin, Lauren, Audrina, Lo & more

Friday, July 16th, 2010

We bid farewell to the cast of MTV’s The Hills this week during their final episode and the after-show The Hills Live: A Hollywood Ending, which brought together the entire cast - even Lauren Conrad, but not Spencer and Heidi, who disappeared off the show earlier this season with no real explanation of where they went (besides Crazy Town, that is).  But, it was quite bittersweet for the show to be over and I, for one, actually liked the ending - the final scene where Brody and Kristin are saying their final goodbyes to each other after Kristin decides she’s moving to Europe.

The background - which appeared to be a real outdoor locale in front of the landmark Hollywood sign - was pulled away and revealed to be a backdrop in the lot of a studio.  Then the cameras pan out to show all the behind-the-scenes action of the show: the cameras, the crew and the breaking down of the last scene.  Apparently, some people didn’t like the ending, but I appreciated the unexpected nod to all the speculation on whether the show was real or fake and the acknowledgement that it wasn’t all reality.  I think most viewers knew it was scripted - at least to some degree - and, let’s face it, a little drama engineering does wonders for the entertainment factor.  Of course, another part of the show’s appeal was checking out the fashion.  So, for my last The Hills shoes post, I’ll be checking out what designer shoes the ladies wore to the aftershow and, in the spirit of this blog, find lookalikes that cost much less.

The cast looked gorgeous at the finale and I had to notice that it was actually the dresses that took center stage this time around - no statement shoes that stole the show for the most part - but they wore the kind of shoes every girl should have in their closet: sexy platform heels in go-with-everything neutrals that serve to complement, not compete with, the entire look.  Let’s start with Kristin Cavallari:

I absolutely love Kristin Cavallari’s dress from The Hills finale, which is by Zuhair Murad and she paired it with Christian Louboutin Turbella 120 silver pumps, which were available at Net-A-Porter, but are now sold out.  I don’t see them for sale online anywhere else, but get a similar look with these:

Nine West Every in dark or light silver for $29.95 (MSRP $78.95) at 6pm, plus 7 more color options (prices vary).

Aldo Debellis for $75 at Aldo.  Coupon code 175926112 takes 10% off and shipping adds $5 unless your order is over $75.  The expiration of the code is 7/31/10.

Lauren “LC” Conrad may have exited the show before the final season, but she was back to celebrate during the finale and rumor has it that her taupe suede pumps are Aldo, specifically the Aldo Fawson for $49.98 at Aldo.com.  These are already affordable but, not surprisingly, close to being sold out in this color.  For more neutral suede heel options, check these out:

Nine West Marray for $88.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  Spend at least $100 on qualifying back-to-school styles (this pair qualifies) and get an extra $20 off for a limited time.

Steve Madden Ultamit in taupe with berry colored sole on preorder at Steve Madden for $79.95 with free shipping using coupon code SMFREESHIP at checkout.

Whitney Port left The Hills for The City, but she definitely had a statement to make at the finale…with her shoes, that is.  Whitney nixed neutrals in favor of a bold and colorful cage style that had Jimmy Choo written all over it.  It’s the Jimmy Choo Quito multicolored snakeskin bootie and it appears to be sold out everywhere online.  These more affordable pairs convey a similar look:

Michael Antonio Jeana for $55.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Aldo Storino on sale for $64.98 (regularly $90) at Aldo.  Get 10% off using coupon code 175926112 and shipping adds $5 unless your order is over $75.  The expiration of the code is 7/31/10.

Pour La Victoire Bethanie 1 in teal for $137.17 with free shipping at Amazon.

Audrina Patridge bares plenty of skin at the finale in her tight purple cutout Boulee Ciara dress, which you can preorder at Singer22 in fuschia or black for $198 (she’s actually wearing it backwards), and her black peep toe pumps.  Her shoes are identified by Coolspotters as the Brian Atwood Wagner, but I can’t find the exact pair online.  However, we always have more black peep toe pumps on the market and here’s a couple that I like for less:

Steve Madden Flawwles for $98.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  Get 20% off with coupon code SUMMER at checkout (expiration unknown).  Update: There’s only a couple sizes left, but 6pm has this pair on sale for $39.98 (sale price expiration unknown).

Paris Hilton Sashay in black for $69.30 at 6pm.

Lo Bosworth looked fetching in her white dress and her Christian Louboutin Mille heels completed her sophisticated look.  Get the exact shoes at Barney’s for $895 or spend less on something similar, like these:

Boutique 9 Disco for $79.99 at Nine West or for $96 at 6pm.

Stephanie Pratt pairs platform slingback YSL Tribtoo heels, similar to this one from Saks that is now sold out, with her skintight Herve Leger dress.  Here’s a lookalike option from Bebe:

Bebe Neve in black, blue or pink for $149 at Bebe.

Another option is the Zigi Project Pumped heel in blue or black at Bakers for $79.95.

Holly Montag wore a pretty white feather dress and closed toe black patent heels.  I’m taking a guess on her shoes, which could be Christian Louboutin, Miu Miu, the Pour La Victoire Irina or none of the above (it’s hard to tell).  However, this pair is a nice option for less:

Aldo Moos for $54.98 - $75 depending on option selected.  Coupon code 175926112 takes 10% off and shipping adds $5 unless your order is over $75.  The expiration of the code is 7/31/10.

So, with that, we say goodbye to the cast of The Hills and all of the rumors, the drama, the black mascara tears, the boyfriend stealing, the name calling and cat fights, the voodoo crystals and plastic surgery, the lingering facial expressions, the ending and beginning of friendships - all of it - and the shoes.

4th of July Shoe Sales

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

It’s 4th of July weekend and time for plenty of fun, but it’s also a great opportunity to save some dough all-American style, especially right now while we’re starting to see big markdowns on summer merchandise.  Independence Day sales are literally everywhere and there are definitely some great shoe sales that have already started, so I thought I would round them up into one big list for anyone who might be shoe shopping this weekend.  I’ll also be updating this list over the next few days anytime I come across more sales and coupons.  So, without further adieu, here’s the rundown of what I’ve seen so far:

American Eagle is having one of their awesome clearance sales right now that also applies to their selection of clearance shoes.  You get an extra 30% off automatically at checkout for a limited time, but then you can also apply coupon code 32944527 to get another 20% off (expiration unknown).  That makes for some super-low prices on their selection of flats, flat sandals and sneakers, like the AE Grommet Sandal (pictured above) that’s on sale for $19.95 and drops to just $11.17 after the code.  Availability can be limited for some styles, so it’s best to shop by size in the top right to narrow it down.  Shipping adds $7, but it’s free if you buy 3 or more items until 7/5/10.

Guess.com is also having a sale on a sale and it takes an additional 50% off already-reduced items.  Browse their women’s sale shoes and, if you see something you like, you’ll see the price slashed in half at checkout.  I like the femininity exuding from the Guess Journ, which features eyelet cutouts and a corset-like lace-up detail on the back.  It’s available for $89.99 in black or white, but the price is reduced to $45 after the discount.  If you spend $100, get free shipping with coupon code FREESHIP100 for a limited time.  The sale expiration is unknown, but it’s likely for the upcoming holiday weekend only.

If you’ve got your mind set on a pair of Chinese Laundry shoes for less, shop Chineselaundry.com and get 30% off any sale shoes when you apply coupon code CL30SALE at checkout.  Make a dramatic statement in the Chinese Laundry Slippery Slope, which has a mix of exotic patterns.  They’re marked down to $69.99 (regularly $119) in black or brown and, after the code, they’ll be yours for $48.99.  The code expires 7/12/10.

80’s Purple offers cutting edge shoe brands like 80%20, Dolce Vita, Industry, Report and more and you can get an additional 25% off your purchase with coupon code fireworks during their Red, White & Purple Sale.  The Dolce Vita Niko wedge in black or brown is priced at $172, but it falls to $129 after the code.  The sale expires 7/5/10.

Shoemall is having a Fourth of July shoe sale and it takes 20% off your purchase via code JULY4.  It applies to regularly-priced items only and shipping is also free.  If you’ve had a gold glitter pump on the brain since Sex and the City 2, you might like the Steve Madden Caryssa platform pump.  It’s $129.95 before the code and $103.96 after.  The coupon expires 7/6/10.

Steve Madden is taking 40% off clearance shoes when you apply coupon code 40CLEARANCE at checkout.  Get a nice price on a clog with plenty of edge, the Steven by Steve Madden Durann, which is so on-trend and marked down from $149.95 to $99.99.  After the coupon, get them for $59.99 in black, brown or red.  The coupon expires 7/11/10.

Koh’s has a new coupon that takes 20% off any purchase, including shoes.  Enter TOPSECRET during checkout to get the discount, which you can even apply to Skechers Shape-Ups (just tested it and it worked).  The Skechers Shape-Ups Action Packed High-Performance Shoes are on sale for $99.99 (originally $109.95), but they are $79.99 after the code, which expires 7/4/10.  Update: This code is now expired, but use code JULYSAVE for 15% off until 7/11/10.

Bloomingdales is having a sale that takes 25% to 40% off select items, including women’s shoes.  On top of that, get another 15% off when you use coupon code SAVE15 in the shopping cart.  I checked it the sale and there’s definitely plenty of low prices going on, but one in particular is the Corso Como Notable studded wedge.  It’s already marked down from $159 to $59.62, but it goes even lower to $50.68 after the coupon, which expires 7/5/10.

More sales & coupons for shoes:

Lord & Taylor: Buy more and save more on select sandals: 30% off one pair, 35% off two and 40% off three.  If the shoes you want don’t qualify for this discount, get 20% off regular, sale and clearance items instead with coupon code JULY4 until 7/5/10.  Some exclusions apply.

Shoebuy: 20% off with coupon code JULY4 and free shipping.

Macy’s: Extra 25% off clearance shoes (prices reflect discount) and free shipping on $99 or more with coupon code FIREWORKS until 7/5/10.

Shoesteal: Extra 20% off with coupon code JULY4 until 7/5/10.

6pm: Select Gabriella Rocha shoes for $19.95 or less and more brand sales.

Nine West: 50% off select styles, plus an additional 20% off if you buy any 2 pairs.  Discounts show at checkout.

Kenneth Cole: Select shoes get an additional 40-50% off at checkout.  Eligible items are marked with the discount amount.  The sale expires 7/8 at 3 am ET.

Aldo: Extra 20% off women’s sale pumps, shoes and boots (excludes sandals).  The discount is already applied to the product price.

That’s all for now, but be sure to check back for more shoes sales for the 4th!

Shoe Buzz: Shoes inspired by Whitney Port from MTV The City promos

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

The cast of The City has returned for Season 2 of the MTV show (technically Season 3, but whatevs) and, as always, I’ve got an eye on these ladies’ style, particularly their cute shoes.  We haven’t seen any of those shoe close-up shots they’re known to do on the show so far (after the first two episodes anyway), but I do know that some people are interested in the shoes worn in the promo pics for the show.  They definitely have some standout pairs going on in these photos and I’ve attempted to find out which shoes they are and lookalike versions that are also hot, but cost a fraction of the price.  Here’s what I found for Whitney:

Whit looks really amazing in this shot.  She’s got legs for miles and they end with one of the hottest designer shoes of the moment, the Fendi Cinderella:

Fendi somehow manages to make a huge clear platform heel look, well, classy and  Whitney is donning a gorgeous light blue version of this frothy concoction.  There were many colors featured in the Fendi Spring 2010 show, but the only one I’ve seen for sale is the blush version at Net-A-Porter.  It’s $1,195 and nearly sold out.  There’s also an alternate version of the Fendi Cinderella at Saks Fifth Avenue for $1,140, but it’s almost sold out as well.

Now, it’s not an easy thing to find anything that remotely resembles this shoe.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see a knockoff at some point, as we usually do, but I haven’t seen anything so far.  However, I did find some shoes that incorporate some of the elements of this pair resulting in a similar look:

The Bebe Scarlett Scarf Sandal reminds me of the Fendi sandal more than anything else I’ve seen, even though the colors are bold and bright rather than subtle and soft (it would still rock with a white outfit like Whitney’s though).  It comes in black or pink at Bebe for $179, but unfortunately they are almost sold out.  However, they do re-stock styles from time to time, so hopefully we’ll see it available in more sizes again.

The Touch Ups Celine Heel is available in black or silver for the base and it comes with four different multicolored scarves so you can change up your look.  You can get these for $69.99 at Shoebuy and coupon code MOM takes 20% off for a limited time, making them $55.96 with free shipping.

The Colin Stuart Canvas Lace-Up Sandal is sold at Victoria’s Secret for $68.

The pretty Zigi Soho Fabulous in black is dramatic and airy, making it a viable alternative for the Fendi pair.  Get it at Journey’s for $49.99.  You can also check out the somewhat similar and even less expensive Patent Ruffle Lace Heel at GoJane for just $21.80.  It comes in a wider variety of color options.

Update: I ran across the Aldo Nelton and it also reminds me somewhat of the black Fendi Cinderella in wedge form, minus the super-high clear platform of course.  It’s $80 at Aldo.com.

Update 2: Check out these shoes from Bakers for more options: The Scarfy WP (pictured above) for $59.99 in ivory or black, the Star for $49.99 in black or the Tonya for $49.99 in orange, turquoise, white or multi.

Whitney also rocks a good-girl-gone-bad look in another promo photo, which features the Giuseppe Zanotti Zip Cuffed Jewel Sandal, available at Neiman Marcus for $1,360 or Zappos for the same price.  Here are some similarly sexy looks for less:

ZiGiny Erratic for $199.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.  Update:  Here are a couple more lookalikes for this pair that are much more affordable, the Black Strappy Stud Ankle Heel at Americlubwear for $25.99 and the Celeste Yama-10 Jeweled Open Toe Sandal at Urban Originals for $28.90.

Nine West Inquisat for $129 at Ninewest.com.  Get 20% off at checkout until 5/9/10, which drops them to $103.20.  They ship 5/18/10.

ALDO Tinder in black for $69.98 at Aldo.com, reduced from $90.  It also comes in beige for $59.98.  Use coupon code FSNEWMAY10 for free shipping.

ZiGiny Gaga for $53.95 at Karmaloop.  Apply coupon code CLINTON to take 20% off, making them $43.16 (list price $180) plus shipping.  That’s the best price I see, but sizes are limited.  Amazon also has them for $77 with free shipping.

Of course, we also have the cage heel Whitney wears in the intro of The City, during the opening credits where she’s stepping out of a taxi cab.  This promo was shot quite some time ago and the shoe may have been the Dolce Vita Cher, which basically isn’t available any longer, but luckily this kind of caged, ghillie tie style is still popular and available from other brands. Here are a few I’ve seen:

Chinese Laundry Lucky Strike for $80 at Shoes.com.  Apply coupon code MOMSAVE20 for 20% off, making them $64 with free shipping.  The coupon expires 5/9/10.

Nine West Jemmia for $89 at Ninewest.com.  They qualify for an extra 30% off and an extra 20% off at checkout until 5/9/10, which reduces them to $49.84 with $5 extra for shipping.

GoJane Laced-Up Cage Heel for $22.60.

Finally, we have the shoes Whitney wore for her Whitney Eve fashion show in Bryant Park.  According to Whitney’s blog, her outfit is Whitney Eve and the shoes are from Lanvin. It looks like this Lanvin high-heeled sandal for $430 at YOOX, but this one is in black and only one size is left.  Here are some alternatives:

Betsey Johnson Gemma in gold leather for $86.25 at 6pm.

Luichiny Gal Lop in champagne for $45.87 at Amazon.

Nina Clova in gold satin for $79 at Shoes.com.  Coupon code MOMSAVE20 takes 20% off until 5/9/10, making them $63.20 with free shipping.

Next time, I’ll talk about more shoes from Erin, Olivia and Roxy from The City, plus shoes from MTV’s The Hills.

SOS: 50% off select Nine West sandals + extra 20% off

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Ninewest.com is known for having some pretty good sales, but sometimes they kick it up a notch into “fabulous” territory.  That’s how I’d describe their current sale, which allows you to double-dip your discounts for big savings on their summer sandals.  They are taking 20% off any sandals, but the biggest savings come in when you pick a pair that is marked as having an extra 50% or 30% taken off at checkout since the discounts stack on top of each other.  For instance, the Nine West Elkie (pictured above) is regularly priced at $89 and is eligible for an extra 50% off and another 20% off when you add it to your cart.  That knocks it down to just $35.60 with four color options available.  Shipping is also currently discounted to a flat rate of $5.

I’m also liking this pair:

The Nine West Keysor in black, red or olive for $31.99 after the 50% + 20% discounts (regularly $79.99).

See all of their sale sandals for more low-priced options.  The sale ends 5/9/10.

Message from Princess: Shoe sales galore this weekend

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I’ve been seeing plenty of really good shoe sales going on, so I had to round them up for those of you who may be shoe shopping this weekend.  If you’re craving a hot new pair of shoes, but need them to be light on the wallet too, check these stores out:

$5

$5

$5

$5

I have to start with Sears because they have some unbelievably low prices on their shoes right now.  Sears may not be first place we think of when buying shoes, but they do offer some well-known brands and - wow - these prices are insane.  They are taking an extra 50% off women’s clearance boots and when you look at the shoes, you’d think many of them are already marked down, but you actually get the extra discount at checkout.  Boots aren’t typically on the brain this time of year, but when they start at $2.50 after discount you can’t go wrong.  For example, the MIA Amore McBeavy moto boot (pictured above, at left) or the Laundry List Trishelle (pictured above, at right) are just $5 each.  Plus, there are plenty of other boots to choose from, many of which are under $25 before discount and $12.50 or less after.  Besides boots, Sears is also taking 30% off clearance shoes at checkout, including athletic shoes from brands like New Balance, Skechers and Adidas.  The sale ends 4/17/10.

$13.97

American Eagle is once again taking an extra 30% off clearance items, including clearance shoes.  They don’t have free shipping this time around, at least not right now, but you can still get cute flats and sandals for very low prices.  I like the AE Leopard Sandal (pictured above left), which is a new arrival to the clearance section and is priced at $24.99 before discount and $17.47 after (originally $29.50).  We also had a commenter in my previous American Eagle sale post that said she was liking the AE Soft Ballet Flat in light blue (pictured above right).  It’s a great color and available for only $13.97 after discount (originally $29.50), although sizes are getting a bit limited.  The sale ends 4/20/10.

Nine West is having their Friends and Family Sale, which always means a sweet discount.  Get 30% off regularly-priced items by applying coupon code NWFRND4 at checkout and shipping is discounted to $5.  I’m loving the sandal featured on their homepage, the super-sexy Nine West Consuela for $89.  It’s available in 4 colors and you can get it for $62.30 after discount.  The sale ends 4/12/10.

Macy’s is having a Great Shoe Sale, which is a buy more, save more sale that takes 15% off 1 pair of shoes, 20% off 2 and 30% off 3.  Many sale items are also included, which is extra-nice since there isn’t a purchase minimum to get these discounts.  Gear up your spring and summer wardrobe with the shoes pictured above, (from left) the Chinese Laundry Block Party for $49, the Marc Fisher Sal for $89 and the Enzo Angiolini Fiama for $89.  You can get 15% off any one of these or 20% off any two, but the real savings come in when you buy all 3 for $158.90 rather than $227, which is $68 off (and kind of like getting a free pair).  Shipping is free on $75 or more with coupon code FIRSTSTEP until 4/17/10.  Sale expiration is unknown.

6pm has some weekend brand-specific super sales going on.  Get up to 65% off Steve Madden, up to 65% off HUGO Hugo Boss shoes, up to 65% off Cole Haan boots, up to 75% off Enzo Angiolini and more.  These sales end 4/11/10.

Shoe Woo, a new site that sells Jones Apparel brand shoes such as Nine West, Anne Klein, Enzo Angiolini and licensed brand Rachel Roy, takes 30% off any regularly-priced order at checkout during their first Friends and Family sale.  One of my faves, the Boutique 9 Val, is reduced from $199 to $139.30 with $5 shipping.  It’s expected to ship 5/11, but it also shows as being on backorder, so it’s possible there’s some additional delay.  The sale ends 4/12/10.

That’s all for now, but I’ll add more sales over the weekend if I see them.  Have a great one!
