Shoe Buzz: Shoe-Han a no-go for Dina Lohan

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

Dina Lohan’s shoe line for Love My Shoes, which was tentatively called Shoe-Han and set to debut around Mother’s Day of this year, is officially not going to happen.  Love My Shoes cites “continued economic sluggishness and the prevalent mood of today’s shoppers” as the reason for the deal falling through.  While it’s true that the economy has resulted in people being more particular and careful about what they buy, it’s been said that shoes are selling well despite the recession.  I think it may have more to do with the less-than-positive reaction to the October announcement of the line and the fact that the market is already over-saturated with celebrity fashion.  Dina is known for being Lindsay’s mom, not a true celebrity in her own right with her own solid fan base, and the public perception of her has often been negative – she’s been criticized in part for her mothering skills and hard-partying ways.  While that may or may not be accurate, she’s also not particularly known or admired for her style.  Dina seemed to be aiming for a youthful, trendy kind of look with her shoes, but that market may not respond well to her.  All in all, it seems to be a good decision on Love My Shoes part, but Dina isn’t giving up.  A spokesperson says, “There was a miscommunication over finances, this was too local and we need a larger partner. We are currently exploring other options, and we will have another announcement soon.”  Daughter Lindsay also has plans for her own line of shoes as part of the expansion of her 6126 leggings line.

Hot Shoe Trends Fall 2009: Sequin Shoes

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

If there’s one thing I learned from season 2 of The Rachel Zoe Project, it’s that sequins are super-hot.  Rachel wore sequins several times on the show and says on her website, “virtually every designer sent sequins flying down the runways” for fall.  It’s an ideal time for a sequin trend given how perfect they are for holiday party wear, but sequins are no longer relegated to just evening looks. They can add instant glam to just about anything, even simple jeans and a tee.  In particular, I like sequins on shoes because it’s a great way to apply the trend without the risk of overdoing it.   Plus, when you have shiny, happy feet, the rest of you tends to feel that way too.  So, go ahead, add a little sparkle to your life in one of these pretty pairs:

Betsey Johnson Kanata in blue or magenta for $200 with free shipping at Zappos.  I so need these in my life.  Like immediately.  Update: The blue version of the Kanata is now $204 at Zappos, but the magenta pair is now marked down to $160.

The gorgeous Nina Erna pump in burgundy or black for $99.95 at Shoemall.  Get 15% off with code 15AMAZON, which makes them $84.96 with free shipping.

Sparkle and save in the Forever 21 Sequin Holiday Pump.  It’s just $22.80 and comes in black or gold.

Or, get another low-priced pair in pink, the Wet Seal Sequin Pump for $24.50 at Wet Seal.  It also comes in gold or silver.

Go for a gold pair with this Lumiani Jeanna for $105 with free shipping at Zappos.

Lose the heel, not the shine, in the Free People Eclipse Sequin Flat.  It comes in blue, pink or black and is on sale for $49.95 (originally $88).

Spend even less on a sequin flat at American Eagle.  The AE Sequin Flat in black or silver is $34.50.

Or, get a dolled-up pair of sequin sneakers, like the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Sequins shoe for $85 at  Spend less with the Gotta Flurt Sparkle Sequin Sneaker for $29.95 at DSW or the high-top Sequin High shoe for $28.99 at LoveMyShoes (coupon S15FALL takes 15% off until 10/23).

Shoe Buzz: Random little bits of shoe news, just for fun

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

I don’t know if you catched the Real Housewives of Atlanta tonight but, I have to say, super-fab Dwight was insanely hilarious and fierce wearing heels and running around in them for NeNe’s “Heel the Soul” event, which benefits NeNe’s charity for women in abusive relationships.  Dwight went all out for this event and looked like a graceful gazelle taking off from the finish line!  Honestly, he did better in those ankle boots than I could have done, I’m quite sure, and this is from a man who claims to have only worn heels twice.  I haven’t actually tried running in heels, but just walking in them can be quite a challenge, so kudos to him.  Dwight and NeNe are both so out there, particularly together, so they crack me up.  I was also so surprised to hear this evening about the passing of Kandi’s fiance, AJ.  I find Kandi amazingly talented and so real and my heart goes out to her.

In other shoe news, I heard today on The Cut that Dina Lohan (mom of Lindsay Lohan, in case you weren’t aware) is planning to launch a shoe line called Shoe-han, which will be sold on Love My Shoes.  Ok, this should be interesting.  Would you buy shoes from this woman?  I mean, it’s hard enough for a bonafide celeb to start a shoe line successfully, but I’m having trouble imagining things working out for Dina in this particular realm.  We’ll have to see what she comes up with…maybe shoes for the ageing party gal?

Alexander McQueen showed his new spring 2010 shoes on the runway in Paris and, I have to say, I just can’t stop looking at these shoes (seen here on Shoe Blog).  Totally unwearable in real life, but absolutely mesmerizing.  I mean, they look like a cross between some crazy-valuable vase and some exotic wild creature you just discovered out in the wild.  In-SANE!

Christian Louboutin Dillian Look-Alike: The Dollhouse Soleil

Friday, September 25th, 2009

You can’t deny that the Christian Louboutin Dillian is a gorgeous pair of shoes, but the hefty $1,695 price tag places them squarely in “look, but don’t touch” territory (this snakeskin version at Neiman Marcus is even higher at $2,875).  Enter the Dollhouse Soliel, which has a very similar look for a fraction of the cost.  I mentioned this pair was available at DSW in my Rachel Zoe shoes post, but unfortunately they are completely sold out.  If you are still pining for this pair, try these stores (color options and sizes may be limited):

Endless for $65.95 in black or purple

Shoe Bungalow for $54.98 in black or orange for $48 in black or blue (only 1 size left in each). Get them for $38.40 after applying their BML2009 coupon code.  Update: They’ve restocked and they have this pair available in black, blue, purple or pewter.  Use code ENJOY09 to get 20% off.

Love My Shoes for $54.98 in black or orange.

Torrid for $64 in purple or black.  Get $10 off with coupon code 17SEPTEMBER until 9/30/09.

Update 9/26: Amazon also has this pair starting at $48 (depending on size/color selection) with free shipping.

Wild Diva Vivian Wedge for $36.98 at Love My Shoes

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

I tend to favor shoes with uniquely decorated heels and this super-bright Wild Diva Vivian canvas wedge is no exception.  It comes in white, yellow and black and all would be great for when things warm up in spring and summer.  I especially like the black pair, which would add a nice dash of bright color to any little black summer dress or show off a little color in your heel when paired with jeans.  Get this style for $36.98 (retail $59) at Love My Shoes.  Shipping adds $5.95.
