Lori’s Shoes

Shoes that WOW from behind

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

It’s natural to want to put your best fashion details forward, so they can be admired when facing a person, but there’s certainly something to be said for leaving a lasting impression while walking away.  That’s why I tend to like shoes with eye-catching details placed on the back of the heel – the kind of styles that just might have you sauntering away from people way more often, but all in the name of a little harmless showing off.  For instance, we have the Sam Edelman Evan, which is an unassuming closed-toe pump in the front:

But it goes all-out glam in the back with its metallic and studded corset detail.

In addition to the black and gold version, which is available at Revolve Clothing for $150 or at Bloomingdales for the same price, there is also this metallic gold and silver Zinc option (also pictured at very top):

Heels.com has this one for $169.99.

I’ve also been seriously admiring this boot lately, even though I’m so not in fall boot mode yet:

Sure, this one has standout detail in the front in the form of a dramatic spikey collar around the ankle, but it’s also got an interesting element in the back via extra-long fringe:

I’ve always admired the compelling swaying effect this type of fringe makes when the wearer is in motion and the Jeffrey Campbell Amanda Spk can be found at Lori’s Shoes in beige or black for $228.95.

Here’s another one that’s sleek and simple up front:

But there’s a glitter party going on around back (very Miu Miu like, btw).

You can find the Vince Camuto Hariza for $148.95 at Nordstrom.

Finally, we have the Report Signature Targee, which appears to be a tame little nude platform pump:

But it definitely shows its wild side with this fringy mane that runs along the back of the heel:

Oh yes, the element of surprise tends to leave a lasting impression.

These can be found at Lulus for $189.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Jeffrey Campbell Vicious-Ex & Lancer heels with spikes

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Oh, hello.

I’ve been talking about pretty wedding shoes a lot this week and you gotta love the fancy side of footwear, but sometimes you get in the mood for something a little different.  Something super-fierce…a bit untamed…perhaps even slightly dangerous.  Then I came across this pair:

Jeffrey Campbell never disappoints when it comes to shoes of a wild nature and he answers the call once again with the sexy and spike-studded Jeffrey Campbell Lancer.  Find it for $244.95 at Envishoes or check out Eilatan for their $245.99 black version.

And what’s black and white and red all over (not to mention exceptionally spikey)?

It’s the bold and heel-less Jeffrey Campbell Vicious-Ex.  Lori’s Shoes has it for $204.95, but it appears to be selling out as we speak [sold out], so you can also head over to Envishoes to get it for $214.95.

Update: 4 colors of the Jeffrey Cambell Vicious are available at Solestruck for $209.95, including this pink and black version [sold out in 3 colors].  Nordstrom has the Vicious-N in pink and black for $194.95, but few sizes are left [sold out].  Update 2:  Eilatan has the fuschia / black version [sold out] and red / zebra in stock.  Update 3: Karmaloop has the red / zebra option for $228 [sold out].

Get your spikes out, ladies, it’s time for the weekend!

Spring Shoes with bird detail: Miss L-Fire Bluebird & Irregular Choice

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Spring officially sprung earlier this week and what better way to celebrate the new season than with a pair of bird shoes?  Yes, that’s right, birds on your shoes.  It may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think of how to express yourself shoe-wise this spring and summer, but after I came across a few really cute and whimsical shoes with bird print, it made total sense to me.  I’ve got a little thing for birds anyway, as does my family, so it’s definitely up my alley and a unique twist on shoes for spring – one that you certainly don’t see all that often.

I saw the pair pictured above, the Miss L-Fire Blubird, first at Modcloth listed as the Tweet of Feet shoe and was a bit disappointed that it sold out so quickly (only size 6 left).  I set out to hunt it down somewhere else (maybe “hunt” isn’t the best choice of words, come to think of it) and found them on the UK-based Miss L-Fire website, but they only have a few sizes left on pre-order.  Then I discovered that Heels.com has it in stock, so if you really love the Miss L-Fire Bluebird, you better shake a tail feather because they could go fast.  You can get them for $89.99 with free shipping.

Want more bird shoes?  Irregular Choice has some options too:

Irregular Choice Fresh Cut Grass in red for $120 at Amazon, in black for $154.99 at Modcloth (listed as Dove Actually), or in red, black, or green for $155 at Musthaveshoes.

Irregular Choice Whoopi in blue for $124.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes or in black for $119.95 at Infinity Shoes with free shipping via coupon code ISFREESHIP (limited time offer).

Update: We have another bird print shoe from Iron Fist, the Iron Fist Birds of a Feather for $59.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

Update 2: I’m loving this bird print option too.  It’s the Irregular Choice Kupcake for $165 at Karmaloop.

While we’re on the topic of Miss L-Fire shoes, I had to mention some more styles from the brand.  These don’t incorporate the bird theme, but they are definitely lots of fun:

Miss L-Fire Chica Chica Boom rainbow wedge for $119.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.  Also available in black and pink.

Miss L-Fire Gabriella for $135.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Reunion Shoes – Red heels on Brandi, Gold glitter heels on Adrienne & more

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

We’re right in the midst of an extra juicy reunion for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 2, having finished two parts of the three part special.  The drama on the show was on a rolling boil all season long and, I must say, it was pretty riveting.  After all is said and done, the ladies have plenty of serious issues to hash out on the reunion but I, for one, am here to talk about the shoes.  Yes, there’s never a shortage of hot designer heels on a Housewives reunion, that’s for sure.  That’s why we’re going to check out what they wore and, if your feeling inspired by something you see, but not by an out-of-range price tag, I also found some similar, but much more affordable styles as options for getting the look for less.  Let’s check it out:

On one side of the room at the reunion, we have (from left) Brandi Glanville, Camille Grammar, and Lisa Vanderpump.  They all really brought it in the shoe department, but I have to give props to Brandi for her royal blue strapless dress with bright red pumps – I love the color combination.  I mean, Eddie Cibrian, who?  Looking gorgeous on a hot TV show is the best revenge, I must say.

It’s hard to go wrong with a spicy red heel and it looks like she is wearing this YSL Trib Too in red patent, which can be found at ysl.com for $795.

For a less expensive alternative, try the Audrey Brooke Samantha for $89.95 at DSW.

If you like the combo of red and blue, you’ll appreciate the blue sole on these.

Another option is the Chinese Laundry Whistle in red patent for $69 with free shipping at Endless.  Spend over $100 on eligible styles, including this one, and get 20% off your order in-cart through 2/14/12.

Camille Grammar is going through a situation similar to Brandi’s after ex Kelsey Grammar left her for another woman, but she seems to be doing just fine.  It was said at the reunion that her show got higher ratings than Kelsey’s show (ooh, burn), she has a younger new man in her life, and she looks fab in her red dress and sparkly Christian Louboutin Lady Peep pumps.  The shoes pictured above are the $4,195 crystal version offered at the official Christian Louboutin site.

For something similar, try the Enzo Angiolini Show You for $160 at Bloomingdales.

On to Lisa Vanderpump, who said she was wearing Giuseppe Zanotti when asked about her shoes at the reunion.  She is wearing the Giuseppe Zanotti Crystallized Suede Platform Slingback, available for $1,370 at Neiman Marcus.  These are AH-mazing, but for something less expensive with a similar look, see the Enzos above or this slingback style:

Perugia 12643 for $69.30 with free shipping at Endless.  Spend over $100 on qualifying styles, including this pair, and save 20% at checkout through 2/14/12.

If you love the ultra happy multi-color version of the Zanottis (pictured left) as much as I do, I came across a closer look-alike for that particular style.  The Sole Obsession Berne (pictured right) isn’t dripping in Swarovski and doesn’t have the coveted Giuseppe Zanotti name, but it does have a similar mix of colors with added sparkle via rhinestones and it’s much more affordably priced at $89.95 at DSW.  There is a black/turquoise/purple version available as well.

On to the other side of the room with (from right) Adrienne Maloof, Taylor Armstrong, and Kyle Richards.

Adrienne Maloof is wearing a style from her Adrienne Maloof by Charles Jourdan shoe line.  Adrienne’s shoes were once available only at Issay.com, but they are also now available at Belk, where this particular style is exclusively sold.   It’s the Adrienne Maloof Shaun Pump and you can get it for $235 in gold or black.

Of course, you may also be wondering about the Vander Pump, a style Lisa Vanderpump created with shoe designer Ryan Haber and the pink heels her daughter Pandora wore on her wedding day.  They were available for pre-order back when the season premiered, as discussed here, but I don’t see them available for sale online right now.  However, those interested in this shoe can see the Ryan Haber site for more info.

There was a little controversy at the reunion over Adrienne and Lisa’s respective shoes when it was brought up that Lisa had previously referred to Adrienne’s shoes as “Maloof Hoof” and then she went on to say it meant “fat little shoe”.  Now, perhaps she was trying to be funny and there are certainly bigger issues going on with the cast than this, but I can see why Adrienne would be a bit miffed about it.

Now, if it were these shoes, I’d totally get it.

Ok, moving on to Taylor Armstrong, who is wearing lovely nude mary jane platform pumps that definitely look YSL, but I couldn’t find a pic of the exact pair.  I do, however, have some look-alikes:

Patent Mary Jane Platform Pump at Charlotte Russe for $30, but on sale for $25 for a limited time.

Sergio Zelcer Wood Platform Pump in tan with red sole for $121.88 with free shipping at Endless.  Spend over $100 on qualifying styles, including this pair, and save 20% at checkout through 2/14/12.

Promise Goodness tan mary jane with blue sole for $37 at LuLus.

Finally, we have Kyle Richards wearing those signature studs on the Valentino Rockmance, which is available at Neiman Marcus for $895.  I couldn’t find anything that looks all that close to this pair, but these more affordable shoes have some similar features:

Jeffrey Campbell Midler for $112.95 at Loris Shoes.

Betsey Johnson Majestee for $110.99 with free shipping at Endless.  Spend over $100 on eligible styles, including this one, and get 20% off your order in-cart through 2/14/12.

That’s all I have for now, but looking forward to part 3: Andy’s big talk with Kim.

Jeffrey Campbell Jumper archless heels

Monday, June 13th, 2011

It’s Monday, so let’s get a little wild today courtesy of Jeffrey Campbell.  The brand never disappoints when it comes to outrageous shoe styles and, once I spotted the Jeffrey Campbell Jumper at Lori’s Shoes, I had to discuss JC’s latest archless creation here.  Like the Jeffrey Campbell Benched I mentioned before, the Jumper has a large cutout in the middle of the footbed, where the arch of your foot lies.  I’ve managed to wrap my head around the idea that the arch of your foot won’t know what’s missing when the shoe is constructed in a certain way, but wowza these babies are tall.  The heel measures 6.25″ and the platform is 2.5″, which is plenty of height to make one feel high and mighty when wearing them, but the net effect on the foot is under 4″, which isn’t too bad.  Then there’s the long t-strap, the orange leather, the wide ankle strap…it’s quite the statement shoe.  Impress your friends who don’t know by telling them the shoe causes your arch to magically levitate, David Blaine style.  Then, really impress your friends by actually jumping in the Jumper.  That would be something.

You can find this style at Lori’s Shoes for $184.

Hot shoes in cool shades of light & aqua blue

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Lately I’ve really been crushing on shoes in various shades of light blue.  I’ve always loved the lighter side of blue, but these shades haven’t been too terribly common when it comes to footwear.  That’s why I’ve been happy to see more and more styles available in gorgeous shades of soft blue that range from pale baby hues to bolder aqua pastels.  These are colors that generally have a cool, calming effect when you look at them, much like gazing at a clear sky or tropical ocean might do, and they tend to convey a fresh, clean look.  One fine speciman is the Jeffrey Campbell Garett, available at Envishoes for $144.95, which combines aqua suede and a Valentino-esque bow with dark blue and light green accents.  This is one of my favorites, but there are definitely more to consider, so let’s it check out:

Aldo Frankenberg sandals with a crisp pop of blue for $110 at Aldo.com.

Rachel Roy Zahira in light blue for $119 at rachelroy.com.

Pour La Victoire Irina in aqua for $179.99 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Sole Boutique Mamie for $70 at Karmaloop.

Jeffrey Campbell Shy Town for $148 at Lori’s Shoes.

Jeffrey Campbell Tick in light blue for $180 at Karmaloop.

I’m loving all of the above, but if you really want to make a statement with aqua blue, you mix it with fiery shades of pink and orange à la the Jeffrey Campbell Munroe.  With its unabashedly bright color palette and extra-bold styling (love the two-toned platform!), this shoe definitely has the makings of a quintessential fun summer shoe.  Find them at Lori’s Shoes for $140 or at Envishoes for $144.95.

Note: To get a discount on Karmaloop orders, use coupon code SAVE20 to get 20% off $100 and free shipping (first time users only) or try ROCKIT for 15% off $75 (expiration unknown).  For Aldo orders, use 349147751 to get 10% off (expiration unknown).

Shoes with a pop of color for colorblocking trend

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

We’ve been checking out both neutral shoes and multicolored shoes, but there’s another breed of footwear that combines elements of both.  These shoes have a primarily neutral palette, in shades like taupe, black, white or gray, but then there’s some portion of the shoe that is played up with a nice shot of color.  I love the overall effect this provides and, although there are many ways to wear these shoes, I find it particularly relevant for the colorblocking trend we’re seeing for spring (as noted on Stylelist).  If you’re experimenting with this trend by combining various contrasting color combinations in your clothing, you might opt to incorporate just a touch of one of those shades in your shoes to bring it all together.  Or, if you’re hesitant to try colorblocking with your clothes, some of these shoes have more than one hue, meaning the trend is already built-in and ready to go with any look you choose.   I’m loving the Pelle Moda Franky (above) with a pop of bright orange, which can be found for $162 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes or for $180 with free shipping at Shopbop.  Here are some more options, in both warm and cool shades:

Aldo Dyle rubber sole wedge with a pop of yellow for $100 at Aldo.  Coupon code 310687728 takes 10% off, making them $90 (exp 4/1/11).  Note: If you’re obsessed with those Prada rubber sole wedges (like the $695 Prada Mary Jane Wedge) but can’t shell out the big bucks for them, this is a nice alternative for much less.

Aldo Heister platform sandals with a pop of orange or yellow for $100 at Aldo.com.  Coupon code 310687728 takes 10% off, making them $90 (exp 4/1/11).

Nine West Stylin colorblock sandals in dark pink and orange for $89 at Nine West (ships 4/26).  Shipping is also free for a limited time.

Fergie Bold heels with a pop of yellow for $99 with free shipping from Shoes.com.  Get 20% off your order, making these $79.20, with coupon code SECRET20 (exp 3/31/11).

Madison Harding Casey wedge with a pop of yellow for $235 with free shipping from Piperlime.

Jeffrey Campbell San Diego colorblock sandals in orange and yellow for $135 at Nasty Gal.

Topshop Luminate sandals with a pop of pink for $145 with free shipping at Topshop.

Steve Madden Bellahh heels with a pop of coral on preorder for $129.95 at Steve Madden.  Get free shipping by applying SMFREESHIP at checkout.

Nine West Braxton for $99.95 at Nordstrom with free shipping via coupon code SHOES (exp 4/14/11) or for $99 with free shipping at Nine West.  This pair is also available in a yellow/orange/red combo.

Aldo Dyle again, this time in green, for $100 at Aldo.com.  Coupon code 310687728 takes 10% off, making them $90 (exp 4/1/11).

N.Y.L.A. Daron in turquoise for $84.95 at DSW.  DSW Rewards members can apply GETFAVES at checkout for $15 off $74, $30 off $149 or $50 off $199 (exp 4/4/11).  That makes this pair $69.95.

Please note that prices and promotions are subject to change at any time.
