A Woman’s Right to Something Blue Shoes…for less

Friday, May 18th, 2012

It’s hard to look at any royal blue satin heel with sparkly ornamentation at the toe, like the Glint Radiance pictured above, and not think of one thing: Sex and the City.  Of course, I’m talking about this shoe:

The Manolo Blahnik Something Blue, which is available at Bergdorf Goodman for $945, became a shoe icon after being featured prominently in the first Sex and the City movie and it’s inspired many a knockoff.  But, the Glint Radiance Pump (pictured top) is interesting because it has similar features of the Something Blue, but rather than being an exact replica, it’s actually a mish mash of it and another famous shoe style from the series:

The Manolo Blahnik Sedaraby d’orsay pump in silver (it also comes in blue) was one of the stars of the TV series in A Woman’s Right to Shoes.  Of course, this is the episode where Carrie attends a friend’s baby shower and the house rules are to take your shoes off at the door.  Carrie reluctantly does so and ends up having her shoes missing by the end of the party, which her friend offers to replace before finding out their price tag of $485.  This brought on some shoe shame by her friend for spending so much money on the shoes in the first place.  Of course, in the end, Carrie decides she does have a right to $485 shoes - and I quote, “The fact is, sometimes it’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun” - so after spending so much on her friend’s wedding and baby gifts, she makes a point by registering herself at Manolo Blahnik for the shoes and the friend finally agrees to replace them.  Such a great episode.

The Sedaraby is still available now, but at $755, even die-hard lovers of SATC who would love to obtain Carrie’s shoe style may just find it well out of their reach.  That’s why the Glint Radiance is a great alternative that combines features of both Manolos I’m talking about here, without being an exact copy of either, but at a much more affordable price of $119.95 at Nordstrom.  Not to mention, it’s a beautiful shoe in its own right with a different style of jewel decor that makes it stand out on its own.  In particular, I’m sure many brides will love the gorgeous blue version at the top for a little something blue in their shoes, but there is an ivory version (pictured above) that would also be ideal for walking down the aisle.

Of course, even though the shoes do have a bridal slant to them, you certainly don’t have to be getting married to wear them, as Carrie clearly demonstrated in the show as a single shoe-loving girl.  I really like the silver version for being the kind of shoe you can have on hand for the times you need to get a bit fancy and one that would quite literally go with anything you want to wear it with.  Ok, maybe not everything, but metallic silver is definitely known for its extreme versatility.

Another notable thing about these shoes: They come in a wide range of sizes, from 4-12.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Boutique 9 Nosey with geometric rhinestone heel & platform

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

These are the kind of shoes that will definitely put some bling in your step.  I came across the Boutique 9 Nosey recently and although we often see pumps bedazzled with small, circular rhinestones on the heel and platfom, these stood out to me because of the square and rectangular jewel detail, which is something you don’t see quite as often.  The shiny embellishments go all the way down the back of the heel for a nice effect and I also appreciate how they wrap all the way around the platform rather than stopping on the side, as seen here on the bright coral version:

In addition to coral, a fun color that seems to be popping up everywhere lately, there’s this bright blue version, which I think is my favorite:

Then again, it’s always hard to resist the combination of black patent with shiny gems:

This one would certainly be the most versatile of the three.  While I love the wow factor the bright colors provide, I have to admit that a black peep toe pump with an extra dose of shine has more potential for being a go-to style that would work with a wider variety of looks, which is quite tempting.

If you’re loving the Boutique 9 Nosey too, you can find them at Nordstrom for $149.95 with free shipping.

Purple wedding shoes in plum & more shades

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Since wedding season is upon us, we have plenty of brides looking for the ideal shoes to go along with their dress; thus, we have another bridal-themed Find My Shoes post today!  I received two requests recently from brides-to-be that are both looking for purple shoes for their big day.  First, we have Shannon, who is wearing the beautiful Alfred Angelo Belle dress (pictured above, left) and wants to find shoes in the shade of David’s Bridal plum.  She loves the look of the $230 High Society Heel at My Glass Slipper (pictured above, right), but needs something more affordable.  We also have Jessica, who wants to find an elegant, not-too-expensive style in bright purple.  So, I’ve been on the hunt for a plethora of pretty purple pumps that just might work for these ladies, or at least hopefully so.  Here’s what I found:

After looking at available options, I believe the best way to get the look of the High Society heel on a budget is to go with a shoe clip.  The nice thing about going this route is having more flexibility to choose the exact shoe style you want - for instance, Bridalshoes.com has lots of dyeable wedding shoes under $100 in various heel heights and 4 shades of purple to choose from.  A simple, but dressy heel, like the dyeable satin Touch Ups Flash-647 (pictured above, left) could work well and it’s affordably priced at $54 with a $14 dye fee.  You can then pick out a shoe clip and I tend to like the wide selection of options at Etsy.  The floral shoe clip pictured above is $24 in gold or silver and I think it would look really nice contrasted with purple.  When you combine the cost of the shoe and the shoe clip, it totals $92, which is less than half the cost of the High Society style.

Here are some ready-made options I found (Note: I tried to get as close as possible to the requested plum shade, but I am basing this solely on the picture, which may not always be exact):

Allure Bridals Starlight for $79.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  Coupon code SPRING15 takes 15% off (expiration unknown).

RSVP Cailyn for $99 with free shipping at Zappos.

Nina Elke for $99 with free shipping from Zappos.

Coloriffics Rave for $99.95 with free shipping at Endless.  Spend $100 or more on eligible styles, including this one, and get 20% off with coupon code FORMAL12 (exp 5/7/12).  The base color of these shoes appears lighter, but the stones are a darker purple.

Poetic Licence Spectacle in purple for $62 with free shipping from Must Have Shoes or $79 with free shipping from Planet Shoes.

Touch Ups by Benjamin Adams Bev for $61.99 with free shipping from Shoes.com.  Coupon code SECRET20 takes 20% off (exp unknown).

Bourne Susie in Aubergine for $136.85 with free shipping from Endless.

Poetic Licence Force of Nature, an option that’s a bit different than the rest, but still has plenty of purple, for $89.40 at Dillards or $109 at Must Have Shoes, both with free shipping.

Now for some bright purple options.  I included more variety as far as the actual shade goes with these shoes since bright purple can mean different things to different people.  Of course, it’s the bride’s call to determine what exact shade will work for her, so here are some possibilities to consider:

Charles by Charles David Glacee in purple for $125.34 with free shipping from Endless.

Dyeables Lacey in purple for $69.99 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Coupon code SECRET20 takes 20% off (exp unknown).

Coloriffics Miley in purple for $69.95 with free shipping from Endless.  Spend $100 or more on eligible styles, including this one, and get 20% off with coupon code FORMAL12 (exp 5/7/12).

Ivanka Trump Alluvia for $82.11 with free shipping at Endless.

H by Halston Abigail for $59.99 at Bakers (for the platform lovers!).

Steve Madden Hadley-R for $119.95 at Steve Madden and coupon code SMSPRING15 takes 15% off $75 and gives free shipping for a limited time.

Lulu Townsend Blossom wedge for $54.95 at DSW.  Members get free shipping on $35 with coupon code SHIPR through 6/20/12.

Nine West Devika for $49.99 with free shipping at 6pm.

Pour La Victoire Evelia for $74.50 with free shipping at Endless.

J.Renee Rosina in multi for $79.95 with free shipping at Endless.  This option clearly isn’t solid purple, but if you look close at the glitter, there is plenty of purple mixed in, so it could be really pretty.

Congratulations to both brides!

Ivory wedding sandals with sparkly rhinestones

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

I received another inquiry from a bride-to-be that needs some assistance finding her perfect wedding shoes and, in today’s Find My Shoes feature, I hope to help her out.  For this particular request, the bride will be wearing an ivory version of the gorgeous Alfred Angelo dress you see pictured above and wants to find ivory wedding shoes to complement it for her upcoming garden wedding.  She is looking for something with plenty of sparkle and something that is designed with some kind of strap over the foot because pumps and slingbacks tend to slide off her feet.  She also wants a heel of up to 3.5″ and wants to stay within a budget of around $100, give or take a bit depending on the shoe.  So, with that in mind, I set out to find some options that meet her desired criteria, or at least very close.  Let’s take a look:

Brianna Leigh Alyssa in ivory silk satin for $139.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  Coupon code SPRING15 takes 15% off, which makes them $118.96 (exp 4/30/12).

A.Marinelli Excess in ivory for $72.80 with free shipping at Endless.

Kenneth Cole Reaction Know Blinkie in cream for $89.95 at Shoemall.  Coupon code SHOESRFUN takes 20% off, making them $71.96 (exp. 4/18/12).  They are also available at Dillards for $89.99.  Note: Dillards has it listed as a 4″ heel, while Shoemall has it at 3.5″.

Nina Vianey in ivory for $49.99 with free shipping at 6pm. Also available at Shoebuy for $71.95 with free shipping and 15% off via the coupon listed above.

Coloriffics Camryn in ivory for $106.45 at Shoebuy.  Use the coupon code listed above for 15% off.

Pour La Victoire Estee in ivory with blue sole adorned with ”I do” crystals for $68 with free shipping at Amazon.

Antonio Melani Tabitha in ivory for $89.99 at Dillards.

Nina Chara in ivory for $99 with free shipping at Endless.

Antonio Melani Reiss for $110 at Dillards (note: heel is 4″).

Chinese Laundry Abbie in ivory for $69 at Macys.

Annie Adrien in ivory for $59.95 with free shipping at Endless.

Update: Another one I came across, the Paco Mena Gloria in ivory for $124 with free shipping at Endless.  Get 20% off $100 with coupon code MOTHER20 through 5/13/12.

Update 2: The heel is higher than requested at 4.25″, but it’s hard to deny the gorgeous Ivanka Trump Abilene in ivory.  It’s available at Bloomingdales for $150.

Congrats to the bride on her upcoming special day!

Shoes for Victorian Steampunk wedding style

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Help! I’m getting married in October. My dress is ivory lace. I’m looking for a victorian boot or really nice but not too expensive closed toe pump to wear! I’m a bit of a lace/steampunk geek, and finding shoes to fit is so hard! Can you help?

I received this request by email for some help finding Victorian and/or Steampunk bridal shoes and, thus, I got to have a bit of fun scouting out some nontraditional wedding shoes that reflect these styles in some way or another.  Some of the shoes I found are more Victorian - whether it be a hint of influence or more overt - and then there are those that also incorporate the edgy, industrial vibe that is often found with the Steampunk aesthetic: Think Victorian, but with a kick via heavy metal detail like gear embellishments (love this Steampunk wedding for inspiration).  Also, some of the shoes I found are costume shoes technically, but if they provide the right look, they are viable options for the intended purpose.  Of course, it all depends on the bride: her personal preferences, how far and literal she wants to go with the theme, and if she plans to wear traditional bridal colors like ivory or metallics or delve into darker shades like brown and black or even go with a print, like you see with the floral Poetic Licence Lady Victoria pictured above (These are available for $84 at Must Have Shoes).  Whatever the case may be, here are more various options I came across and, hopefully, one of these just might be a perfect fit:

Lace Victorian Tall Boots in Ivory for $44.99 at BuyCostumes.

Funtasma Dame 115 for $54.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  The ivory version is very close to being sold out, but they also carry gold (pictured) and black.  For a shorter version, try the Funtasma Dame 05 for $49.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy or the Ivory Victorian boot at BuyCostumes for $42.99.

Irregular Choice Milk Mint for $134.99 with free shipping from Heels.com.

Annette Adult Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Poetic Licence Dorothy’s Dream in pewter or gold for $97.95 with free shipping at Endless.  The black version is $49.50.

Victoria Adult Boots for $49.99 at BuyCostumes.

Demonia Glam-240 for $73.99 at Sinister Soles.  Also available at Shoebuy for $104.95.

Irregular Choice Flick Flack for $129 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Spitfire in cream for $129 with free shipping at Endless.

Irregular Choice Abigails 3rd Party in gold for $155 with free shipping at Endless.

Pleaser Arena-208 Victorian Button Boots for $56.99 at Sinister Soles. A similar, shorter version is the Pleaser Splendor-130 for $52.99.

Hades Eiffel with metallic Steampunk heel in black, brown, or burgundy for $127.95 at Shoebuy.  If you prefer the white “ice” version, it appears to be sold out in most places, but it shows as available at Funky Pair for $127.95.

Irregular Choice Can’t Touch This in blue or silver for $165 with free shipping from Endless.

Irregular Choice Lucite Lovely for $165 with free shipping at Endless.

Adult Steampunk Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Seychelles Exclamation Point for $72.19 with free shipping at Endless.

Demonia Tesla 03 in black or brown for $64.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.

Irregular Choice Cortesan Floral Bar for $140 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Sweet Ending in eggplant, green, or grey for $97.95 at Shoebuy.

In addition to these ready-made pairs, there are options for getting custom shoes in this style.  Find information on custom Steampunk boots and Victorian lace covering for shoes on Etsy (note: price is for customization only and does not include the cost of the shoes).

Need a discount?  Here are some coupon codes for some of the stores listed above:

Shoebuy Coupon code EMLTRAINING12 gives $7 off one pair of shoes, $15 off two, or $25 off three or more (exp. 4/17/12).

BuyCostumes Coupon code APRIL20 gives 20% off (working as of now, but may expire by today 4/16/12).  Or, sign up for their email list to get a 15% off coupon or use code BUYMORE to get $5 off $50 or more (exp. 4/22/12).

Sinister Soles Coupon code FALL20 gives 20% off $40 or more (expiration unknown).

Hopefully this helps out!

Spring shoes that POP in neon

Friday, April 6th, 2012

With all of the bold color we’re seeing this season (which I was just discussing in my multicolor shoes post), it makes perfect sense that neon has once again emerged as a trend for spring and summer.  If you’re a lover of these ultra-bright hues, it’s not that you have to wait for them to be deemed trendy to wear them, but it does mean there are a lot more options to pick from.  And since neon packs a serious punch, a little goes a long way for making a bold statement; thus, wearing a pop of neon with your shoes is a particularly ideal way to apply the trend with ease.  I personally like the look of shoes in neutral shades, like taupe, combined with just enough neon to amp things up, like what you see with the Enzo Angiolini Timga pictured above.  It’s available for $120 at Endless and there’s also a neon pink version with a dark natural upper.  Here are some more of my current faves in fluorescent shades:

Vince Camuto Deric with bright yellow heel for $115 with free shipping at Amazon. Also available at Dillards.

Jessica Simpson Shavon colorblock heels with neon pink for $97.95 with free shipping at OnlineShoes.  Get $20 off $90, which drops the price on these to $77.95, using coupon code 20BLOOM through 4/30/12.

Ann Taylor Cheri in Caliente Coral for $178 at Ann Taylor.  Get 30% off with coupon code SPRING30 (expiration unknown).

Steve Madden Aaria in neon yellow on preorder for $149.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code MUSTHAVE25 takes 25% off $150 and gives free shipping through 4/10/12.  A pink version is also available.

Qupid Neutral neon green heels for $26.99 at Tilly’s.

Charlotte Russe neon wedge in pink or yellow on sale for $25 at Charlotte Russe.

Pour La Victoire Taryn in neon yellow for $189.99 with free shipping at Piperlime or $265 with free shipping at Endless.  It also comes in neon pink.

Fergie Protest in green for $69.95 with free shipping at Zappos.  It also comes in pink, yellow, and more color options.

Charlotte Russe neon orange heels for $30 at Charlotte Russe.  These shoes are eligible for their Buy 1, get 2nd for $12.50 promotion, as are these cute neon flats they offer.

Sole Boutique Posh Dynamo neon flats with spikes for $33 at Karmaloop.  They also come in neon yellow for $46. Update: Also available at Urban Originals for $33.50.

Have a fun weekend and a wonderful Easter!

Spring shoes in rainbow multicolor

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

I love how everything is about color, color, color right now when it comes to fashion.  We’ve seen the colorblocking trend enjoy plenty of longevity - it was a hit last spring too and just keeps going - and people have certainly become less afraid of combining color in unexpected ways.  Pastel shoes and pastel colorblocking have also been popular this season, which I can definitely appreciate, but bold color is always a go-to style must in the spring and summer months.  Perhaps because when things start heating up outdoors and everything gets much more colorful around us, our style naturally follows suit.

When it comes to shoes, there are many options out there for wearing a single bold color or even two or three in one pair, but today I’m focusing on the shoes that have at least four or more shades.  You just can’t help but be cheerful when you look at all of these colors playing so nicely together and if it’s extreme color that you crave, they really bring it.  One bold and dramatic example is the Zigi Shoes Sundae (pictured top), a shoe modeled after the Ferragamo Rainbow shoes.  I mentioned these on my Facebook page when LuLus came out with them, but they have since sold out (very quickly, I might add).  They are now available at Karmaloop for $250 and coupon code 10OFF100 takes 10% off $100, which drops them to $225 (exp 3/31/12).  Update: These are once again available at LuLus for $179.  Also at Heels.com for $294.99.

Here are some more multicolor options:

Kate Spade Lindsay for $275 with free shipping at Endless.

Inc International Valencia for $89 at Macys.  Coupon code SHOES takes 15% off 1 pair of shoes, 20% off 2 pairs, or 30% off 3 or more (exp 4/15/12).

Enigma Starlite for $76 with free shipping at Lulus.

Miss L-Fire Chica Chica Boom for $119.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

Ash Hollywood for $189.95 with free shipping at Solestruck.

N.Y.L.A. Cobain for $117 with free shipping at Lulus.

Jeffrey Campbell Party-2 for $119.95 with free shipping at Envishoes.

Update 2: Another option is the Big Buddha Mojo for $59.95 with free shipping at Shoemall.  Get 20% off with coupon EGGSTRA20 through 4/10/12.

Update 3: Love the United Nude Elastic Remi.  It’s available for $279.95 with free shipping at Solestruck and for $280 with free shipping at Karmaloop.

Update 4: These super-affordable rainbow shoes can be found at GoJane for $33 in black, red, or orange.

Update 5: Here are some cute rainbow flats from Lulus.com, the Bamboo Feeling 03 for $25.
