Spring 2011 Hot Shoe Trends: Denim shoes

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

Lately, I’ve noticed that many shoe designers seem to be catching a case of the blues — but in the best possible way, of course, because what I’m referring to is a spring denim trend.  Blue jeans are always a closet staple, but this trend is all about the use of denim for other types of clothing and accessories, such as shoes.  And like your favorite pair of jeans, shoes in denim have the potential for some serious multitasking in any wardrobe due to the versatility of the fabric.  It also tends to exude a cool, casual vibe perfect for toning down a look and making it more laid-back, which works well when this is the desired effect.  I first observed this trend emerging when Mr. Louboutin released shoes in denim for the upcoming season, like the drool-worthy Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120 studded denim pumps pictured above for $975 at Net-a-Porter (almost sold out) and more styles, like the Christian Louboutin Greissimo in denim for $875 and the Christian Louboutin Deroba Denim Wedge for $595 at Neiman Marcus.  Plus, as Fashionologie reports, denim pieces were seen all over the runway for several noted designers and, in addition, we have the lovely Rachel Roy, who recently released an array of denim shoes as part of her Rachel Rachel Roy line.  If you want to get in on the denim shoe trend, here are some styles to check out:

This is one of my current favorite shoes and it’s available in a limited-edition denim version exclusively at Akira: the Sam Edelman Lorissa for $183.90.  Update: This pair is now also available at Nordstrom for $225.

Update: Here’s another one from Sam Edelman and I had to add it because I am soooo loving it.  The Sam Edelman Novato in light blue for $90 at Lori’s Shoes or $99.95 at Nordstrom.

The Fever Monica in bleached denim for $200 at Fever Shoes.

The Rachel Roy Idana for $99.99 at Macy’s.  Apply code PRESIDENT to get 10% off, making them $89.99, through 2/21/11.  I’m also hoping the Rachel Roy Kimi in light blue with red glitter platform might make a comeback after being sold out - love!!

The Jeffrey Campbell Hill Boot in blue denim for $220 at Karmaloop.  Coupon code JUST4U takes 20% off for a limited time, making them $176.

The Miss Me Woody-5 for $54.10 at Endless.

The Sergio Zelcer Witt for $136.32 in limited sizes at Endless.  See all Sergio Zelcer for more denim styles.

The Dr. Scholl’s Bombshell denim flat for $29 at Endless.

The Matisse Slade for $34.98 at 6pm or $32.49 at Sears.

The Guess Bilsor in limited sizes for $76.97 at 6pm.

Shoes from the Super Bowl: Christina Aguilera in Louboutin, Fergie’s boots & Kim’s Shape-Ups

Monday, February 7th, 2011

I’m not that into football, generally speaking, but I do find the Super Bowl entertaining.  It’s a great excuse to eat something extra-yummy and one of the only times I ever pay attention to commercials, plus I like to see who performs the national anthem and the half-time show.  The actual game?  Meh.  But, this year, I had to take note of the shoes that took part in the big event (and not just football cleats).  Here’s what was on my radar:

Christina Aguilera has been catching major flack around the web for flubbing the lyrics while performing the national anthem pre-game, but she did score points for her choice of footwear.  She wore the fab Christian Louboutin Calypso pumps, seen here at Coolspotters.  These crystal-encrusted beauties are gorgeous, but appear to be unavailable online.  For something affordable and somewhat similar in look overall, try these:

The Penny Loves Kenny Tetra for $89.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.  It also comes in several other color options (no red), some of which are very limited in size options.

The Paris Hilton Electra in black/black or black/brown on sale for $62.30 (regularly $89) at Macys.  The same style is also available in three color options at Heels.com for $89.99.

Fergie rocked out with the Black Eyed Peas during half time in these tall lace-up wedge boots, a look that was football inspired, as noted on the Fergie Shoes Facebook page.  Despite some sound issues, which always seem to be prevalent given the acoustics at stadiums, I enjoyed the show.  I’m not sure of the designer of her boots, but here’s another pair that has many of the same elements, minus the white-colored laces:

The Type Z Nora boot in black or brown on sale for $90.30 (MSRP $169) at 6pm.

Of course, you can always look to Fergie’s own shoe line for some rocker inspiration.  The Fergie Battlefield over-the-knee boot is available for $99 (regularly $159) at Fergie Shoes.

Finally, we have Kim Kardashian, who hawked for Skechers Shape-Ups during the Super Bowl commercials in one of her latest product endorsements.  Is it just me, or does it seem like the overtly sexual ad may have spoken more to the male audience rather than the intended female target for the shoes she was wearing?  I’m also not sure that Kim has ever worn these kind of shoes in real life, rather than utilizing a hot personal trainer, but whatevs.  If you want to find her black and pink Shape-Ups from the commercial, you can get a good price at Endless.  The Shape Ups Kinetix Response is on sale for $60 (regularly $100) with free 2-day shipping, but it has pink shoe laces rather than black.  You can also get the Skechers Shape-Ups SRT Kinetix with black laces, as in the ad, for $99.99 at Famous Footwear.

Find My Shoes: Purple wedding shoes

Monday, January 31st, 2011

When I heard that Heather, a friend of Fairy Shoe Princess on Facebook, was looking for the perfect purple wedding shoes, it didn’t take long for me to start checking out what was available.  To be honest, I’m always down for looking at pretty purple pairs, but particularly so when it comes to a special event like a wedding.  I don’t know too many specifics of what Heather is looking for in terms of exact style or shade, but I set out to find a selection of dressy shoes in various purple color options that I think would work well for the big day.  Here’s what I found:

I mentioned a pair of shoes very similar to these before - the tutu-inspired Steve Madden Fifi in blush or black - but I’m definitely loving this bright purple version.  The SM Lace Platform is available at DSW for $99.95.

You can add some serious sparkle with the Night Moves by Allure Star purple sequin heel, which is sold at Shoes.com for $90 with free shipping.

There’s also plenty of shine on these stunning floral heels, the Betsey Johnson Iris.  You can find these at 6pm for $122.50 with $6.95 for shipping.

The Betsey Johnson Izzy is quite similar to the Iris color-wise, but it has a little something blue mixed in, which is a nice plus.  Get these for $122.50 with $6.95 for shipping at 6pm.

It’s kind of hard to tell when seeing it off the foot, but I think the large rose detail on the Nina Galiza could be really gorgeous, particularly in this shade.  Get these at Shoes.com for $99 with free shipping.  Update: Here’s another Nina shoe with large floral detail in a darker shade of purple, the Nina Critia for $40.50 at 6pm.

These don’t appear to be the most comfortable of options, but I do love the soft shade of lavender and the cluster of petal-like detail on the vamp.  The Miss Me Dazzle-32 sandals in lilac are available at Endless for $45.95 with free 2-day shipping.

The RSVP Rain looks like it offers more comfort with the built-in Foot Petals and the higher platform to help offset the height of the heel.   Plus, they are simply elegant and pretty.  Get these at Zappos for $89 with free shipping.

Finally, we have the gorgeous violet satin Martinez Valero Zoie heels.  These are available at Shoes.com for $141.55 with free shipping.

Note: For any of the regularly-priced Shoes.com styles listed above, get 20% off your order with coupon code VISA at checkout.  It may require payment by Visa and expires 6/30/11.

Hopefully this helps Heather and anyone else who loves purple shoes like I do!

Update: I’m adding a few more shoes for Facebook friend, Melody, who is looking for purple heels with a rhinestone ankle cuff.  These are the closest options I could find:

Bourne Tiffany in lilac for $181.97 at Amazon or $200.16 at Endless.

The sparkle isn’t on the ankle for this one, but it’s a gorgeous shoe and such a steal: the Express Jeweled T-Strap Heel for $39.99 at Express with an extra 40% off at checkout to drop it to $23.99 (limited time offer).

The Mitzy Hachi-190 is also available for a great price: $19.95 at Endless, but almost sold out.  It’s available at ShiekhShoes for $54.97.

I’m loving the disco ball effect on these Martinez Valero Chase sandals in purple, which are available for $156.95 at Amazon.

Update 2:  I’m finding the purple Steve Madden Luvly quite lovely, so I had to add it!  Find it at Steve Madden for $129.95.

I heart these Valentine’s Day shoes in pink & red

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I, for one, am already feeling the love - the shoe love, that is.  When it comes to what you wear on the day, anything goes, but it’s one of those holidays that tends to bring out our romantic side.  For shoes, that can translate into anything from sweet and girly to fiercely seductive - depending on the desired effect - but with plenty of feminine details.  And if you really want to get into the V-day spirit, you wear the classic team colors of pink and red.  That’s why I’ve gathered up a selection of shoes that I think are perfect for the day.  But, before I get into that, you’re probably wondering about the shoes pictured above, right?  An image of these dramatic platforms popped up in the shopping results while I was doing a search on Google and I had to post the pic because they are just so…heart-tastic.  Then I found out they are sold by a site that specializes in selling shoes for dancers (ok, strippers).  But if you want to know where to get them, they are sold for $199.95 at a site appropriately called Booty Cocktails (lol) and they are actually hand-carved and custom made with each order.  Admittedly, I think they are pretty cool, but obviously very extreme.  If you want to express your Valentine’s Day cheer in a much more subtle way, here are some more options:

The Paris Hilton Senorita in red with rhinestone bow for $89 at Macy’s.  Or, get the red patent version without rhinestones for $95 at Shoes.com.  Coupon code VISA takes 20% off to drop the total to $76 with free shipping (exp. 6/30, may require Visa payment).  A soft pink version is for sale at 6pm for $53.37.

The Chinese Laundry Hot Hot glitter heels in a whisper-soft shade of blush for $69.95 with free shipping at Zappos.

Poetic Licence Dance All Night in red for $104.27 with free shipping at Zappos.

Jessica Simpson Ely in powder for $98 with free shipping at Piperlime.

Steve Madden Propperr in red for $99.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code rmn15f takes another 15% off and adds free shipping, making them $84.96.

The Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Lady Dragon IV in pink on sale for $126 at 6pm.

Sam Edelman Jewel for $99 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Coupon code VISA drops the price to $79.20 (exp. 6/30, may require Visa payment).

Charles by Charles David Froth for $125.95 with free shipping at Zappos.

For something more casual, there’s the Comme Des Garcons Play Converse with heart, available for $105 at Tobi.

Finally, you have to check these out just for fun: The Minimy Lipstick Bootie features a heart buckle and a heel that looks like a tube of lipstick.  Alberto Guardiani did something similar that retailed for around $400, but these are just $19.98 at Amazon, marked down from $59.99.  Few sizes are left.

Update: Here’s another pretty pair, Qupid Gaze chiffon heels for $36 at LuLu’s.

Here’s to plenty of shoe love for Valentine’s Day!

Adrienne wears sparkly Disco Ball shoes on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills + similar styles for less

Friday, January 21st, 2011

If you watched the finale of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills last night, you know that the drama and shenanigans reached new heights in this episode, particularly at Taylor’s birthday party.  More accurately, it reached a frenzy (I’m looking at you Kim and Kyle.  Sisters 4-eva, ladies), but just in time for an extra-juicy reunion.  Amidst the chaos, there was Adrienne Maloof, the voice of reason, and her gorgeous shoes.  Everyone at Taylor’s party was complimenting her on her sparkly Gianmarco Lorenzi Disco Ball shoes (pictured above), which they dubbed “Dorothy” shoes.  If you want the exact style for yourself, follow these instructions carefully:  Go to Gregory’s Shoes.  Drop $2,795.  Sqeal with delight.  Game over.

Update: Here’s the silver version available for the same price at Gregory’s.  They also have similar black pair for $2,995.

If you don’t have the funds, you might check out this look-alike version:

I saw this style on Luux.com.  It’s the Fever Tiff and it comes in gold, brown or black for $275.  There are sizes available in the black version now and a couple left in brown with more on the way at the end of the month.  If you like the gold version, it is currently sold out with more coming in February.

Update: Another close lookalike from Fever, the Fever Ramona for $275.

For something less similar, but still hella sparkly, try one of these shoes:

Steve Madden Scandall in gold glitter for $109.95 at Steve Madden.  Apply coupon code rmn15f (expiration unknown) to get 15% off and free shipping, making them $93.46. Also check for your size at 6pm, where they are just $59.97 with $6.95 for shipping, but few sizes are left.

Another Steve Madden pair, the SM Karro for $59.95 at DSW.  Members get free shipping with coupon code SHIPR until 3/21/11.  You can also find the same style in what looks like a different glitter color for $47.97 at 6pm.

The Enzo Angiolini Sully for $88.95 at Nordstrom.

Have a great weekend!

Find Shania Twain’s Calvin Klein wedding shoes at 6pm

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

Country star Shania Twain just got married on New Year’s Day of this year and, as always, she looks radiant and beautiful, but even more so pictured here on her wedding day (love that black sash!).  I’m glad to see that she’s moved on and found happiness after that “Mutt” guy she was previously married to cheated on her with her best friend.  What a dog.  Anyway, she married Frederic Thiebaud (the former husband of the ex-best friend), who is seen here carrying her white strappy Calvin Klein wedding shoes as they walk down the beach.  I recognized this pair as the Calvin Klein Dylan, a style that I’ve featured here before:

If you’re a bride-to-be and want to wear the same shoes Shania wore for your own big day, you’re in luck: the Calvin Klein Dylan is available in both white re-color satin and ivory satin at 6pm for 50% off retail at $59.50.  Of course, you don’t have to be a bride to wear these in white, but if you’re looking for the same style in different colors, 6pm also offers black, a metallic gold color called platino and a black/cream multi version with prices ranging from $56.38 - $65.45.  Note that all prices are subject to change.

If you’re already contemplating the ever-popular New Year’s resolution of getting in better shape, you might get a jump start with Skechers Shape-Ups, the fitness shoes that boast increased muscle strengthening and toning benefits.  Do they really work?  I can’t say for sure, but at $39.95 a pair right now at 6pm, I’d say it’s worth a shot - particularly if you’ve always wanted to try them out, but held back due to their usual price tag of $80-$100+.  There are several styles available to choose from at this price, including the limited-edition pink Skechers Shape-Ups Awareness (pictured above) that was made in support of breast cancer awareness.  To save even more, apply the rare 6pm coupon code 6PMCJDEC132010 at checkout to get another 10% off, which will drop your total to $35.95 with $6.95 for shipping or free shipping on $100 or more.  The coupon expires today 12/13/10 (note that it may expire at any time before the end of the day, but it is working as of the time of this posting) and the sale ends 12/17/10.
