Shoes for Victorian Steampunk wedding style

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Help! I’m getting married in October. My dress is ivory lace. I’m looking for a victorian boot or really nice but not too expensive closed toe pump to wear! I’m a bit of a lace/steampunk geek, and finding shoes to fit is so hard! Can you help?

I received this request by email for some help finding Victorian and/or Steampunk bridal shoes and, thus, I got to have a bit of fun scouting out some nontraditional wedding shoes that reflect these styles in some way or another.  Some of the shoes I found are more Victorian – whether it be a hint of influence or more overt – and then there are those that also incorporate the edgy, industrial vibe that is often found with the Steampunk aesthetic: Think Victorian, but with a kick via heavy metal detail like gear embellishments (love this Steampunk wedding for inspiration).  Also, some of the shoes I found are costume shoes technically, but if they provide the right look, they are viable options for the intended purpose.  Of course, it all depends on the bride: her personal preferences, how far and literal she wants to go with the theme, and if she plans to wear traditional bridal colors like ivory or metallics or delve into darker shades like brown and black or even go with a print, like you see with the floral Poetic Licence Lady Victoria pictured above (These are available for $84 at Must Have Shoes).  Whatever the case may be, here are more various options I came across and, hopefully, one of these just might be a perfect fit:

Lace Victorian Tall Boots in Ivory for $44.99 at BuyCostumes.

Funtasma Dame 115 for $54.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  The ivory version is very close to being sold out, but they also carry gold (pictured) and black.  For a shorter version, try the Funtasma Dame 05 for $49.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy or the Ivory Victorian boot at BuyCostumes for $42.99.

Irregular Choice Milk Mint for $134.99 with free shipping from Heels.com.

Annette Adult Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Poetic Licence Dorothy’s Dream in pewter or gold for $97.95 with free shipping at Endless.  The black version is $49.50.

Victoria Adult Boots for $49.99 at BuyCostumes.

Demonia Glam-240 for $73.99 at Sinister Soles.  Also available at Shoebuy for $104.95.

Irregular Choice Flick Flack for $129 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Spitfire in cream for $129 with free shipping at Endless.

Irregular Choice Abigails 3rd Party in gold for $155 with free shipping at Endless.

Pleaser Arena-208 Victorian Button Boots for $56.99 at Sinister Soles. A similar, shorter version is the Pleaser Splendor-130 for $52.99.

Hades Eiffel with metallic Steampunk heel in black, brown, or burgundy for $127.95 at Shoebuy.  If you prefer the white “ice” version, it appears to be sold out in most places, but it shows as available at Funky Pair for $127.95.

Irregular Choice Can’t Touch This in blue or silver for $165 with free shipping from Endless.

Irregular Choice Lucite Lovely for $165 with free shipping at Endless.

Adult Steampunk Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Seychelles Exclamation Point for $72.19 with free shipping at Endless.

Demonia Tesla 03 in black or brown for $64.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.

Irregular Choice Cortesan Floral Bar for $140 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Sweet Ending in eggplant, green, or grey for $97.95 at Shoebuy.

In addition to these ready-made pairs, there are options for getting custom shoes in this style.  Find information on custom Steampunk boots and Victorian lace covering for shoes on Etsy (note: price is for customization only and does not include the cost of the shoes).

Need a discount?  Here are some coupon codes for some of the stores listed above:

Shoebuy Coupon code EMLTRAINING12 gives $7 off one pair of shoes, $15 off two, or $25 off three or more (exp. 4/17/12).

BuyCostumes Coupon code APRIL20 gives 20% off (working as of now, but may expire by today 4/16/12).  Or, sign up for their email list to get a 15% off coupon or use code BUYMORE to get $5 off $50 or more (exp. 4/22/12).

Name brand shoes under $25 at Piperlime

Friday, August 19th, 2011

End-of-season sales are a mecca for a bargain-hunters like our friend Cheap Chick, who loves to find cute shoes on the cheap.  First, I have to point out that the use of the word “cheap” on this blog only refers to the price of the shoes (simply defined as under $25) because anything beyond that — looks, quality, etc — is really a matter of personal preference.  However, it does help to find shoes that are not only low in price, but also come from recognizable brand names that are normally much more expensive.  That’s what Cheap Chick found in the Piperlime Final Sale and it’s also when things get really fun, like when you come across something like the Sam Edelman Magdalena (pictured above) with a retail price of $150 marked down to just $19.97 with free shipping in gray or whiskey/black.  That’s an unusually low price for this brand and I’m not seeing this particular style for less than around $80 anywhere else right now (Update 8/20: The price of the whiskey/black version was just increased to $39.95).  Want more?  Here are some additional name brand sandals and heels under $25 at Piperlime:

Seychelles Pickford for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $99).

Steve Madden Glistenn in black and 3 more color options for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $90).

Naughty Monkey Shinner in grey for $24.99 with free shipping (retail $89).  Sizes are getting a bit limited.

Report Ledger for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $90).

DV by Dolce Vita Siren for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $90).

Matiko Blake for $19.97 in black or white (retail $195).

Mia Biscotti in natural or black for $19.97 (retail $59).  The Naughty Monkey Divine in grey is a similar style for the same price (retail $99).

This is merely a sampling — there are tons of options at various price points in Piperlime’s Final Sale.  Note that returns are not allowed for these styles and prices are subject to change.

Update: Many more shoes under $25 can be found in the Steve Madden clearance sale, where prices are currently reduced by an extra 50% through 9/2/11 (the price listed has the discount applied).  There are quite a few priced under $20!

Shoe Sale Spotlight: Extra 40% off shoes at Last Call

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

We have a super-sweet sale to talk about today and it’s going down at Last Call by Neiman Marcus.  Until tomorrow only, you can get an extra 40% off any one regularly-priced item, which includes their large selection of designer shoes.  But, don’t forget, this is Neiman Marcus’ outlet site, so these items are already discounted off their original retail price even before you get the extra savings.  And, even though you’ll see many styles marked as “Plus 30% off” while browsing, I noticed that the larger 40% discount is applied to the highest-priced item once you add the shoes to your cart and any additional items in your order are 30% off as part of their concurrent Fun in the Sun sale.  That makes brands like Dolce Vita, L.A.M.B., Charles Jourdan, Pour La Victoire, Rock and Republic, Beverly Feldman (and many more) much more affordable than they normally are.  For instance, the L.A.M.B. Kai Mesh Pump pictured above retails for $295 and is marked down to $225, but falls even further to $135 after getting 40% off in-cart, which is a discount of over 50%.  Let’s check out a few more examples, each with the extra 40% one item discount applied to the price listed:

L.A.M.B. Keagon woven pump in light grey for $147 (retail $325). Also available in black or white.

Dolce Vita Vanni for $95.40 (retail $220).

Dolce Vita North in gold, silver or black for $75 (retail $200).

Seychelles Rogers for $53.40 (retail $100).  Also available in black/white gingham and another floral combo.

Pour La Victoire Vanna in luggage or black for $119.40 (retail $296).

Beverly Feldman Hurray polka dot flat for $69 (retail $170).

To sweeten the deal even more, apply coupon code LCJUNEFS at checkout to get free shipping with no minimum (exp. 6/15/11).

The 40% off one item sale expires 6/9/11 and 30% discount applies until 6/13/11.

Flower Power: Floral shoes that celebrate spring

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Spring officially sprung over the weekend and, to me, there’s no better way to usher in the season than with some freshly picked flower shoes.  After all, when things start blooming, we naturally want to put a little spring in our step too, so we wear shoes that reflect the great outdoors.  That’s why we tend to see a wide array of pretty floral print and flower embellished shoes around this time of year and, whether you want to apply a little bit of blossom detail or go all out with dramatic blooms, there’s definitely something for everyone.  Here are the shoes that have me catching a serious case of spring fever:

Jeffrey Campbell Swansong floral sandal for $112 at Lori’s Shoes.  Shipping is free on orders $150 or more.

Carlos by Carlos Santana Destiny floral pumps for $89 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Use coupon code VISA for 20% off (exp 6/30/11, may require Visa payment) or code SAVINGS15 for 15% off (exp 3/31/11).

Seychelles Matter of Fact floral wedge for $95 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Use coupon code VISA for 20% off (exp 6/30/11, may require Visa payment) or code SAVINGS15 for 15% off (exp 3/31/11).  I also like the black version, which is available at Zappos for $100 with free shipping.

Zigi Soho Superb floral heel for $89.95 at DSW.  Members get free shipping on $35 with coupon code SHIPR (exp 8/15/11).

Betsey Johnson Ditan floral heel with lace-up detail for $99.95 with free shipping at Amazon.  It appears this style is eligible for the current 25% off $50 or more promotion, which would make them $74.96 at checkout instead (expires 3/31/11).

Mojo Moxy Poppy flower pump for $80 with free shipping at Bakers.

B.O.C. Moniz flower flats on sale for $49.99 at Famous Footwear.  Get another 15% off with coupon code MARCH11 (exp 3/26/11).

Rampage Rhetta flower sandal for $39.95 at DSW.  Members get free shipping on $35 with coupon code SHIPR (exp 8/15/11).

Steve Madden Karmenaf floral platform pumps for $129.95 at Steve Madden.  Get free shipping with their SMFREESHIP coupon at checkout.

Irregular Choice Zohan floral wedge for $154.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.  Update: Get $50 off $150 with coupon code FLY50 (exp 3/23/11 at 6 pm ET).

Luichiny Made It flower wedge for $79.16 in blue with free shipping at Zappos.

Rampage Grayson flower peep toe heels for $49 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Use coupon code VISA for 20% off (exp 6/30/11, may require Visa payment) or code SAVINGS15 for 15% off (exp 3/31/11).

Update: Here’s another one, the Steve Madden Wildd for $129.95 at Stevemadden.com (currently on preorder).

Update 2: Here’s another pair I had to add: the too-cute Nine West Bahia for $99 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Note that prices and promotions are subject to change.

Spring shoe trends 2011: Orange shoes

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for things to heat up for spring.  Although it’s still plenty cold outside and will be for quite awhile, I find that just looking at something sizzling hot can help conjure up a feeling of warmth, even if only for a brief minute.  That’s why I’m talking about a fiery new color trend for spring today: orange shoes.  I’ve been noticing a lot of orange around lately, most notably on Drew Barrymore in Jil Sander at a recent Cover Girl party and all over the runways, as seen on SheFinds and The Fashion Spot.  I’ve always loved orange because it’s such a warm hue and, in it’s brightest form, made for super-high visibility.  It also sets off a tan very well, which is always a plus (if you have a tan, that is).  But, generally speaking, it’s probably one of the more under-used colors in fashion, especially for footwear.  If you want to apply this trend to your shoes, which is is a nice way to add a pop of color in this shade without running the risk of orange overload, you might try one of these pairs:

Nine West Playtag for $79 at Nine West.

Charles David Primp for $230 at Endless.

Mojo Moxy Bollywood for $89.95 at Endless.

Seychelles Gypsy for $54.90 at Endless.

Two Lips Ignite for $99.95 at Endless.

Anne Klein Marcella for $39.99 at Shoe Woo with an extra 50% off at checkout (limited sizes, all sales are final).

Update: Here’s another cute orange pair, the Fergie Quilla for $89 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Coupon code VISA takes 20% off regularly-priced items, making them $71.20 (exp. 6/30/11, may require Visa payment).

Boots to love for fall: Seychelles Falcon Ankle Boot

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

I heard that summer officially ends today, so I figured it was definitely time to get some boots on the brain.  Luckily, I happened to find a style that I already personally love, the Seychelles Falcon that I spotted at both Karmaloop and Endless.  It’s definitely a great transistional boot for the upcoming season with its peep toe, light suede color and feminine details – like the whipstitching and lace-up front – but it also exudes a modern vibe with its flaired leather cuff.  I’m loving it and, if you are too, check it out for $149.95 with free overnight shipping at Endless with an additional 20% off using coupon code BOOTFALL20 (exp. unknown).  Or, get it for $150 at Karmaloop with an extra 20% off and free shipping using coupon code SAVE20 (exp. unknown).  That drops it to around $120 at either store and, in addition to the “mushroom” color, it also comes in black at Endless.

Let the boots begin!!
