Shoes that WOW from behind

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

It’s natural to want to put your best fashion details forward, so they can be admired when facing a person, but there’s certainly something to be said for leaving a lasting impression while walking away.  That’s why I tend to like shoes with eye-catching details placed on the back of the heel – the kind of styles that just might have you sauntering away from people way more often, but all in the name of a little harmless showing off.  For instance, we have the Sam Edelman Evan, which is an unassuming closed-toe pump in the front:

But it goes all-out glam in the back with its metallic and studded corset detail.

In addition to the black and gold version, which is available at Revolve Clothing for $150 or at Bloomingdales for the same price, there is also this metallic gold and silver Zinc option (also pictured at very top):

Heels.com has this one for $169.99.

I’ve also been seriously admiring this boot lately, even though I’m so not in fall boot mode yet:

Sure, this one has standout detail in the front in the form of a dramatic spikey collar around the ankle, but it’s also got an interesting element in the back via extra-long fringe:

I’ve always admired the compelling swaying effect this type of fringe makes when the wearer is in motion and the Jeffrey Campbell Amanda Spk can be found at Lori’s Shoes in beige or black for $228.95.

Here’s another one that’s sleek and simple up front:

But there’s a glitter party going on around back (very Miu Miu like, btw).

You can find the Vince Camuto Hariza for $148.95 at Nordstrom.

Finally, we have the Report Signature Targee, which appears to be a tame little nude platform pump:

But it definitely shows its wild side with this fringy mane that runs along the back of the heel:

Oh yes, the element of surprise tends to leave a lasting impression.

These can be found at Lulus for $189.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Name brand shoes under $25 at Piperlime

Friday, August 19th, 2011

End-of-season sales are a mecca for a bargain-hunters like our friend Cheap Chick, who loves to find cute shoes on the cheap.  First, I have to point out that the use of the word “cheap” on this blog only refers to the price of the shoes (simply defined as under $25) because anything beyond that — looks, quality, etc — is really a matter of personal preference.  However, it does help to find shoes that are not only low in price, but also come from recognizable brand names that are normally much more expensive.  That’s what Cheap Chick found in the Piperlime Final Sale and it’s also when things get really fun, like when you come across something like the Sam Edelman Magdalena (pictured above) with a retail price of $150 marked down to just $19.97 with free shipping in gray or whiskey/black.  That’s an unusually low price for this brand and I’m not seeing this particular style for less than around $80 anywhere else right now (Update 8/20: The price of the whiskey/black version was just increased to $39.95).  Want more?  Here are some additional name brand sandals and heels under $25 at Piperlime:

Seychelles Pickford for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $99).

Steve Madden Glistenn in black and 3 more color options for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $90).

Naughty Monkey Shinner in grey for $24.99 with free shipping (retail $89).  Sizes are getting a bit limited.

Report Ledger for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $90).

DV by Dolce Vita Siren for $24.97 with free shipping (retail $90).

Matiko Blake for $19.97 in black or white (retail $195).

Mia Biscotti in natural or black for $19.97 (retail $59).  The Naughty Monkey Divine in grey is a similar style for the same price (retail $99).

This is merely a sampling — there are tons of options at various price points in Piperlime’s Final Sale.  Note that returns are not allowed for these styles and prices are subject to change.

Update: Many more shoes under $25 can be found in the Steve Madden clearance sale, where prices are currently reduced by an extra 50% through 9/2/11 (the price listed has the discount applied).  There are quite a few priced under $20!

Gretchen Rossi shoes on The Real Housewives of Orange County reunion

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

It was reunion time again this week for The Real Housewives of Orange County, which always means getting dolled up and totally breaking out the claws.  That’s exactly what the OC ladies did for the 2-part special, which included finger pointing, name calling, accusations, walking off the stage — basically everything we’ve come to expect from these get togethers.  Even host Andy was particularly on his game, asking all of the hard-hitting questions and totally calling the Housewives out when they tried to pull a non-answer on him.  He’s so tough.  Love Andy.

The Housewives all donned high heels to dish out the theatrics, but it was Gretchen Rossi’s sparkly ankle cuff sandals that probably stood out the most.  She wore them with a gorgeous pink Lipsy one shoulder dress and, I must say, this seems to be one of her favorite pairs of shoes because she also wore them for a Watch What Happens Live appearance, which I posted about after finding the shoes by request.  The Report Signature Vanderbuilt (pictured above from Endless, also listed in a different spelling as the Report Signature Vanderbilt at Bluefly) appears to be silver, but it’s actually covered in ivory beads.  Definitely a super-hot heel, but also completely sold out online.  If you like the black version, I noticed a few pairs for sale on eBay.  You can also check out my previous post on Gretchen’s reunion shoes for some similar alternatives.

Spring 2011 Shoe Trends: Going nude with neutral shoes

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

I’ve been talking about shoes in bold colors a lot lately, but today I’m sticking with a much more neutral subject – literally.  I’m talking about neutral shoes, styles in shades like taupe, beige and nude, because this is a huge trend we’re seeing for spring.  We’ve actually seen this same trend every year for at least the past couple of years, but it makes perfect sense: For what these shoes lack in color, they totally make up for it in extreme versatility, giving great bang for your fashion buck.  Plus, they’re ideal for pairing with those light and airy spring frocks we love to wear this time of year because they won’t weigh down the look.  Sure, you won’t have the drama that bold color can provide, but going nude with your shoes gives plenty of leeway for playing things up with unique design details.  One example of this is the Calvin Klein Alex (above), a modern, sleek and sexy style with crisscross detail on the upper for added interest.  You can get them for $158 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  Here are some more neutral shoes that have caught my eye:

Sam Edelman Kellan wedge in nude for $224.95 at Nordstrom.  Get free shipping with coupon code SHOES through 4/14/11.

Boutique 9 Illy in light natural for $139.99 with free 2-day shipping from Heels.com.

Sergio Zelcer Maggie t-strap wedge sandal in tan for $129 with free overnight shipping at Endless.

Gretchen wears Report Signature shoes on Watch What Happens Live

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

I’ve had some questions on Facebook about the sparkly silver ankle cuff heels that Gretchen Rossi of The Real Housewives of Orange County wore while making an appearance with boyfriend Slade on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Sunday night (3/13/11).  Gretchen wore these shoes with a form-fitting purple dress and they definitely add a nice dose of shine to her look, almost like they could be glitter.  But, they are actually these “ivory” bead-covered shoes:

Gretchen wore the Report Signature Vanderbuilt and, despite the brand name of the shoes being mentioned on the show, they were tough to track down because, unfortunately, they are now sold out everywhere.  You can see them listed at Endless or Bluefly, but there are also some sellers offering this pair on eBay as well.  Otherwise, here are some styles with similar details that are worth checking out as alternatives:

Steve Madden Glitsi for $109.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code rmn15f takes 15% off and gives free shipping, making them $93.46 (expiration unknown).  If they have your size, get them for $69.99 with free shipping instead at PiperlimeUpdate: Now priced at $76.95.

Dolce Vita Misty for $104.47 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Dolce Vita Vanni for $146.90 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.  Update: Out of stock at Endless, but Last Call by Neiman Marcus has them for $159.

Miss Me Diva-17 in silver for $26.09 with free shipping at Amazon.  Update: Now $16.73 in silver, but only one size left.

Naughty Monkey Shinner for $84.95 at Shoemall.  Get 20% off $20 with coupon code LUCKY20 until 3/17/11.  You can also get this style at ZapposUpdate: Now $67.99 at Shoemall, but also available at DSW for $49.95.

Chinese Laundry Miranda for $67.98 – $119.99 depending on size and color selection at Amazon.

Spring shoes on sale NOW

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

As any reader of this blog knows, I love to get a great deal on a pair of shoes.  While I don’t have a “That’s so last season” mentality when it comes to my purchases and I often scour sale and clearance shoes for hidden rock-bottom gems, I do have to admit that there’s something especially gratifying about getting a new arrival at a great price.  Even more so when entering a season like spring, which always comes with a plethora of irresistibly cute and bright sandals to choose from.  So, I had to scope out the current spring shoe sales that cut the price, but not the style.  Here are a few that I found:

Famous Footwear is having their buy 1 pair of shoes, get half off the second sale, which is already quite a deal.  However, you can also apply their 15% off BUNNY15 coupon code until April 3, which takes even more off your total.  One of my current shoe crushes is sold there, the Chinese Laundry Bellevue (pictured above).  It’s a super-sexy, strappy sandal in a nice versatile shade of brown with a cork heel and front straps that extend down to the platform sole.  It’s offered for $59.99, but you can get it for $50.99 after the coupon code.

Or, add another pretty pair like this pink ruffled Madden Girl Setra for $39.99 to your order:

Then you get half off the Madden Girl pair, making it just $20.  Apply the coupon code and get both pairs for a sweet $67.99.

Another sale on new shoes is offered by Shoemall, which takes $20 off $80 using coupon code TAKE20 until 4/3/10.  I’m all about the tad pricey, but awesome Report Signature Elinor (pictured above) for $224.95.  Get them for $204.95 after the code.  Here are a few more of my picks from Shoemall:

The Chinese Laundry Head Over Heels is somewhat reminiscent of the Betsey Johnson Alison I mentioned yesterday with its black lace and tie detail, but this pair is more affordable.  Get it for $99.95 before coupon and $79.95 after.

Or, get all ruffled up and fabulous in the Fergie Henney in red or black for $94.95 before coupon and $74.95 after.

Shoes.com still offers coupon code MSAVE, which takes 20% off your order at checkout.  That cuts the price on the BCBGeneration Belboa, a cute flamingo pink knotted wedge, from $99 to $79.20.

Finally, there’s Payless.  We all know that Payless Shoes offers very low prices to begin with, but they also have a coupon code in the mix.  Get another 20% off your total by applying coupon code 32219 until 4/4/10.  The Stella Gladiator Sandal in black, brown or pewter is reduced from $22.99 to $18.39 after code.

Please note that all coupon codes and sale prices are subject to change at any time.  Happy shoe shopping!

More or Less: Christian Louboutin Dillian & Report Signature Dante

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

I really love the Christian Louboutin Dillian, but it’s $1,695 at Nordstrom and probably won’t be sitting pretty in my closet anytime soon.  I’ve done a More or Less on this pair before with the look-alike Dollhouse Soleil, but here’s another similar pair by Report Signature:

The Report Signature Dante takes the floral, ruffled look of the Dillian, tones it down a bit and gives it more edge with the zipper detail lining.  Oh, and there’s also a purple version…love:

I found a great sale price on this pair. It’s at Nordstrom for $129.90, marked down from $194.95.  Sizes are kind of limited, but you can find more sizes at 80s Purple for $213.  Get 20% off with coupon code hautemacabre until 11/13/09.  Update: There’s also good size selection at Victoria’s Secret, where this pair is $215 and you can get $30 off with coupon code FALL09 until 11/18/09.

If that’s still a little much to spend, don’t forget the Dollhouse Soleil.  It’s available in blue, black, purple and pewter at Shoes.com for $48.  Apply coupon code ENJOY09 for 20% off, making them $38.90 with free shipping.

Update: Here’s another similar option, the Vince Camuto Marcia pump in black or purple suede for $117.95 at Nordstrom.

Update 2: Another option is the Luichiny Gim for $79.95 at Endless.
