Multicolor shoes for going super-bright this spring

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

*Update: This post is from 2011.  See my latest multicolor shoes posts for more*

If there’s one thing I love about spring, it’s the emergence of color.  Applying color to our look is more of a year-round style staple than a trend, but we do tend to see more bold hues being used in fashion when things heat up outside.  When it comes to shoes, you can always add a pop of color in one shade at a time, which works very well, but you can also opt for a wide array of color all in one pair.  Many designers are mixing it up in this way, as seen on Neiman Marcus and these are shoes that, by their very nature, are cheerful, bright and oh-so-fun.  One pair I’m loving is the Jeffrey Campbell Tick Esp (pictured above), which has the normally thumbtacked Jeffrey Campbell Tick shedding its armour in favor of playful, colorful threading all over the heel.  It was available at Envishoes (now sold out) and it’s also sold at Singer22 as the Jeffrey Campbell Tick Fab for $150, but it’s very close to being sold out there as well.  I’m hoping to see these in stock somewhere soon but, no worries, there are plenty of more fabulous multicolored shoes where that came from (Update: You can now get these shoes at Karmaloop for $190.  Get 15% off $75 or more with coupon code MADNE55 through 3/31/11).  Here are some of my other faves:

The Haus of Price Multi Gem pump is on preorder at Solestruck in gold for $239.95 with free shipping.  It’s also available in silver at Stanton James for $245 or get the similar Gameplayer (also known as Solid Goddess) version for the same price.

The Irregular Choice Chica Chola rainbow wedge for $149.99 with free 2-day shipping at Heels.com.

The Dollhouse Neo in multi on preorder for $49.99 at Journey’s (ships in April).

The Nine West Jump Girl for $99 at Macy’s.  Get 25% off 2 or more pairs of shoes with coupon code ADDICTED until 3/13/11.  Shipping is also free on orders $99 or more.  Update:  There is also coupon code WEEKEND that’ll take 10% off this pair, making it $89.10 (exp 3/13/11).

The Jeffrey Campbell Foxy in multi stripe for $125 at Karmaloop.  Get free shipping on $50 with coupon code 50SHIP for a limited time.

The Michael Antonio Gunner for $65 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

The Diba Chi Keeta for $69 with free shipping at Amazon.

The Coconuts Pauly wedge for $44.95 at DSW.

The Annie Magic Dress Sandal in bright multi for $47.50 with free overnight shipping at Endless.  The clear illusion detail on the front of these definitely makes for an interesting look.

Update: I had to add this pair, the Jessica Simpson Vadio in deep purple.  It’s been sold out everywhere in this colorblock version, but is currently available at Envishoes for $98.95 (sold out).

Update 2: OMG – check this one out!  The Senso Diffusion Sahara for $198 at Karmaloop.  Get 15% off $75 or more with coupon code MADNE55 through 3/31/11.

Real Housewives Tamra Barney wears Jessica Simpson brand shoes on Watch What Happens Live

Monday, March 7th, 2011

A new season of The Real Houswives of Orange County made its debut last night and OC housewife Tamra Barney was on hand with fellow castmate Vicki to chat it up on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen after the show.  While most of the Housewives get their kicks in Louboutins and other ultra-pricey designer shoes, this time around Tamra admitted she’s currently a babe on a budget and, as such, she donned a much more affordable pair from Jessica Simpson:

This is the Jessica Simpson Brinna in black and you can get this sexy style for yourself at Endless or Zappos for $89 with free shipping.  Endless also has a taupe version available for the same price.

If you liked Vicki’s spike Christian Louboutin heels, see this previous post for more info.  She wore the same shoes Kim wore during the Atlanta reunion show.

I heart these Valentine’s Day shoes in pink & red

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Valentine’s Day is coming up and I, for one, am already feeling the love – the shoe love, that is.  When it comes to what you wear on the day, anything goes, but it’s one of those holidays that tends to bring out our romantic side.  For shoes, that can translate into anything from sweet and girly to fiercely seductive - depending on the desired effect - but with plenty of feminine details.  And if you really want to get into the V-day spirit, you wear the classic team colors of pink and red.  That’s why I’ve gathered up a selection of shoes that I think are perfect for the day.  But, before I get into that, you’re probably wondering about the shoes pictured above, right?  An image of these dramatic platforms popped up in the shopping results while I was doing a search on Google and I had to post the pic because they are just so…heart-tastic.  Then I found out they are sold by a site that specializes in selling shoes for dancers (ok, strippers).  But if you want to know where to get them, they are sold for $199.95 at a site appropriately called Booty Cocktails (lol) and they are actually hand-carved and custom made with each order.  Admittedly, I think they are pretty cool, but obviously very extreme.  If you want to express your Valentine’s Day cheer in a much more subtle way, here are some more options:

The Paris Hilton Senorita in red with rhinestone bow for $89 at Macy’s.  Or, get the red patent version without rhinestones for $95 at Shoes.com.  Coupon code VISA takes 20% off to drop the total to $76 with free shipping (exp. 6/30, may require Visa payment).  A soft pink version is for sale at 6pm for $53.37.

The Chinese Laundry Hot Hot glitter heels in a whisper-soft shade of blush for $69.95 with free shipping at Zappos.

Poetic Licence Dance All Night in red for $104.27 with free shipping at Zappos.

Jessica Simpson Ely in powder for $98 with free shipping at Piperlime.

Steve Madden Propperr in red for $99.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code rmn15f takes another 15% off and adds free shipping, making them $84.96.

The Vivienne Westwood Anglomania + Melissa Lady Dragon IV in pink on sale for $126 at 6pm.

Sam Edelman Jewel for $99 with free shipping at Shoes.com.  Coupon code VISA drops the price to $79.20 (exp. 6/30, may require Visa payment).

Charles by Charles David Froth for $125.95 with free shipping at Zappos.

For something more casual, there’s the Comme Des Garcons Play Converse with heart, available for $105 at Tobi.

Finally, you have to check these out just for fun: The Minimy Lipstick Bootie features a heart buckle and a heel that looks like a tube of lipstick.  Alberto Guardiani did something similar that retailed for around $400, but these are just $19.98 at Amazon, marked down from $59.99.  Few sizes are left.

Update: Here’s another pretty pair, Qupid Gaze chiffon heels for $36 at LuLu’s.

Here’s to plenty of shoe love for Valentine’s Day!

4th of July Shoes: Cute shoes in red, white & blue

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The Fourth of July is coming up this weekend, which for many of us means the 5 F’s will be in effect: Food, Family, Friends, Fireworks and Fun.  Part of that fun, in my opinion, is going ALL out in the patriotic spirit of Independence Day by wearing traditional red, white and blue.  Of course, you can always opt for shoes in these colors that will have you looking firecracker hot.  One of my favorites is the Charles David Tapestry (pictured above), which is available at Endless for $122.47, marked down from $174.95.  It ships free via overnight shipping, so there’s still time to order before the holiday weekend.  I also found more options that range from casual and fun to dressy and fab that I think are perfect for the day.  All are from Endless and have free overnight or 2-day shipping as noted:

Jessica Simpson Bobcaty in red for $44.21 with free 2-day shipping.

Spring Step Gardenia in red for $52.46 with free 2-day shipping.

Pilar Abril Magnolia for $71.25 with free 2-day shipping.

Pilar Abril Verbena for $54.60 with free 2-day shipping.

Apepazza Topazio for $74.96 with free 2-day shipping.

Nomad Footwear Sparkles flip flop in red and blue for $23.77 with free 2-day shipping.

Poetic Licence Star Gazing in black, pink or grey for $97.95 with free overnight shipping (no red, white or blue, but love the stars).

Naughty Monkey Rain Dance for $70.95 with free overnight shipping.

Have a happy 4th!

Shoes from Kristin Cavallari & Audrina Patridge on MTV The Hills Season 6

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

The sixth and final season of MTV’s The Hills is currently underway and, of course, we’ve already experienced enough drama and antics in the first couple episodes to last us well through the end of the show (and far beyond for that matter).  It’s a show that’s always straddled the line between fiction and reality, but this season gives us even more reason to ponder what’s real and what’s not: Drug rumors, uber-extreme plastic surgery, people literally losing their sanity, Ryan Cabrera on yet another reality show – yes, we’ve seen it all.

Spencer: It boggles the mind

I have to admit I’m a bit sad that it’s almost all over, but maybe it’s time.  Clearly, we’ve come a long way from the innocent, wide-eyed early days of the show when Lauren Conrad was just trying to make her way in the world.  And if Spencer and Heidi really are as crazy and out-there as they seem, they probably don’t need a platform to exhibit it to the world any more than they already have.  Of course, we know they have a history of playing things up for the camera, so Spencer’s super-aggressive, controlling, crystal-toting tendencies and Heidi’s blank, passive tolerance of him (breathe, Spencer, breathe) could be just for attention.  If so, it still indicates a bit of craziness on their part, don’t you think?  I mean, who does that?  I must say, however, that Spencer might just have better acting chops than I would have guessed if it’s fake - those bulging neck veins we see displayed during his many angry rampages are pretty convincing.

The good news is that the girls are getting along relatively well, aside from those pesky drug-use accusations Kristin receives in the first episode after not hanging with the ladies one night in Miami.  Kristen and Audrina, who were prone to bursts of yelling and name-calling last season, are now practically BFFs and even go shoe shopping together in one episode.  I guess it goes to show that time - and shoes – heal all wounds.  Justin Bobby being out of the picture doesn’t hurt either.

Audrina and Kristin try on some noticably cute shoes together at Madison in L.A. and I happened to find some of them.  Since these girls tend to love their high-end luxe designers, I also found some similar shoes that cost a lot less for those of us not on a MTV-star budget.  Let’s check it out:

Kristin Cavallari tries on the YSL Criss-Cross Ankle Strap Sandal, available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $795.  For lower-priced alternatives, try these:

Bebe Stacy for $149 in black or brown at Bebe.com.

Steve Madden Averry in cognac, black, olive or orange for $89.95 on preorder at Steve Madden.  Coupon code FF25 takes 25% off and adds free shipping, which makes them $67.46.  The expiration of the code is unknown.

Audrina tries out Givenchy Open-Toe Ankle Boots, which you can get at Saks for $790.  Here are some similar, but less expensive options:

Aldo Goodsite in black or cognac for $59.98 at Aldo.com.

Dolce Vita Lee for $201.25 at 6pm.

BTW, Audrina wears tan Prada knot sandals with her peach dress while on the shoe shopping excursion.  You can find one size available at Shopbop, but I haven’t seen them elsewhere or any close lookalikes.  Her dress is the Amanda Uprichard Joan for $194 at Piperlime.

Kristen also tries on a pair of black platform sandals, which we’ve seen her wear more than once.  For instance, she wore these shoes on the MTV After Show with her black lace one-shoulder dress.  They are the Miu Miu Swirl Platform Sandal, seen here at Polyvore:

It looks like they are sold out online.  Here are some similarly swirly pairs that are available now:

Max Studio Soraia sandal for $118.95 at Nordstrom.

Jessica Simpson Genaviv in black for $46 or in cognac for $36.80 at 6pm.  Additional sizes and colors are available at Amazon for $72.90 – $88.95.

Update: The platform sandals she wears while shopping are the Jimmy Choo Nixon, which are available in limited sizes at Bluefly, My Theresa and the official Jimmy Choo website.

In a promo pic for The Hills, Kristen wears a metallic wedge heel that looks like this Seychelles Kick Up Your Heels wedge:

It can be found at Endless.com for $89.95 with free shipping.  Sizes are limited in pewter.

There’s also the Season 6 promo video for The Hills that features some of the cast hanging from puppet strings, as well as a pair of beige zip-front shoes.  These shoes look really familiar to me, but I couldn’t quite place them (or find them).  Update: These are the Christian Louboutin Zipette, which are sold out online.  But, here are some lookalike pairs:

Calvin Klein Elise for $99 at Lord & Taylor.  Apply coupon code BIG for 15% off at checkout through 5/23/10.

Jessica Simpson Gobow for $89 at Macys.  Get free shipping with coupon code JOURNEY until 5/19/10.

Steve Madden Nanciee for $99.95 at Steve Madden.  Use code FF25 to drop them to $74.96 with free shipping (expiration unknown).

Any other shoes from the cast of The Hills you’d like to know about?  Let me know!
