4th of July shoes in stars & stripes & red, white & blue

Friday, June 29th, 2012

It’s almost the Fourth of July for those that celebrate here in the U.S. and I think one good way to go all out and put your patriotism on display is wearing shoes with an American flag motif.  That’s why I’ve searched around for styles with good ‘ol stars & stripes and some in red, white, and blue that may not be patterned directly after the flag, but still convey the all American theme.  One option with plenty of patriotic edge is the Iron Fist Allstar (pictured above), which is available at Heels.com for $89.99 with free 2nd day shipping, meaning that there’s still just enough time if to get them by July 3rd as I am writing this now (check the shipping info at the top to get order deadlines).  Let’s check out some more Independence Day themed options:

An ongoing fave, the Irregular Choice Chica Chola with flag detail on sale for $108.95 (regularly $188) at Karmaloop.  Coupon code ALLNEW takes 15% off and gives free shipping on orders over $100 for a limited time.

Karmaloop also has the Jeffrey Campbell Perfect Shoes in Stars and Stripes for $148 (promo codes do not apply).  A couple of more JC styles with flag detail are the Jeffrey Campbell Damsel for $182 and the Jeffrey Campbell Lita for $160.

If you love the Lita, but can’t quite shell out $160, this Lita-a-like might do the trick.  The American Flag Lace-Up Bootie is on sale for $37.95 (regularly $48) at GoJane.  They also have the $35 American Flag T-Strap Platform, which looks much like the Jeffrey Campbell Foxy.

I didn’t know that RuPaul had a shoe line with Iron Fist until I saw the RuPaul’s Drag Race Patriotic Pump, which is $74.99 with free 2nd day shipping at Heels.com.

6pm has the Naughty Monkey Marionette sandal in white, tan, or navy for $48.99 with free standard shipping.

The Naughty Monkey Shine Star is sprinkled with stars all over and available in red, blue, or black for $67.99 with free standard shipping at 6pm.  A similar style is the Star Print Platform Heel in red, blue, or black for $22.40 at GoJane.

I love high heels, but many 4th of July activities require going way more comfy and casual.  That’s why I definitely like these Vintage American Flag Flip Flops for $18.50 at Cafepress.

I was also looking around Etsy for 4th of July shoe clips and came across these Star And Stripes Patriotic Shoe Clips for $40 – are these not fab?

I also love this fun idea: A pair of flip flops with large floral shoe clips, one in red and one in blue. These Flop Toppers are $17 at Etsy.  The 4th of July Perky Bow Shoe Shoe Clip is another cute option I came across for $17 at Etsy.

Of course, if you plan to order anything online for the 4th, be sure to check with the retailer to determine if your order can arrive on time.

I hope everyone has a great holiday!

Shoes for Victorian Steampunk wedding style

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Help! I’m getting married in October. My dress is ivory lace. I’m looking for a victorian boot or really nice but not too expensive closed toe pump to wear! I’m a bit of a lace/steampunk geek, and finding shoes to fit is so hard! Can you help?

I received this request by email for some help finding Victorian and/or Steampunk bridal shoes and, thus, I got to have a bit of fun scouting out some nontraditional wedding shoes that reflect these styles in some way or another.  Some of the shoes I found are more Victorian – whether it be a hint of influence or more overt – and then there are those that also incorporate the edgy, industrial vibe that is often found with the Steampunk aesthetic: Think Victorian, but with a kick via heavy metal detail like gear embellishments (love this Steampunk wedding for inspiration).  Also, some of the shoes I found are costume shoes technically, but if they provide the right look, they are viable options for the intended purpose.  Of course, it all depends on the bride: her personal preferences, how far and literal she wants to go with the theme, and if she plans to wear traditional bridal colors like ivory or metallics or delve into darker shades like brown and black or even go with a print, like you see with the floral Poetic Licence Lady Victoria pictured above (These are available for $84 at Must Have Shoes).  Whatever the case may be, here are more various options I came across and, hopefully, one of these just might be a perfect fit:

Lace Victorian Tall Boots in Ivory for $44.99 at BuyCostumes.

Funtasma Dame 115 for $54.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  The ivory version is very close to being sold out, but they also carry gold (pictured) and black.  For a shorter version, try the Funtasma Dame 05 for $49.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy or the Ivory Victorian boot at BuyCostumes for $42.99.

Irregular Choice Milk Mint for $134.99 with free shipping from Heels.com.

Annette Adult Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Poetic Licence Dorothy’s Dream in pewter or gold for $97.95 with free shipping at Endless.  The black version is $49.50.

Victoria Adult Boots for $49.99 at BuyCostumes.

Demonia Glam-240 for $73.99 at Sinister Soles.  Also available at Shoebuy for $104.95.

Irregular Choice Flick Flack for $129 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Spitfire in cream for $129 with free shipping at Endless.

Irregular Choice Abigails 3rd Party in gold for $155 with free shipping at Endless.

Pleaser Arena-208 Victorian Button Boots for $56.99 at Sinister Soles. A similar, shorter version is the Pleaser Splendor-130 for $52.99.

Hades Eiffel with metallic Steampunk heel in black, brown, or burgundy for $127.95 at Shoebuy.  If you prefer the white “ice” version, it appears to be sold out in most places, but it shows as available at Funky Pair for $127.95.

Irregular Choice Can’t Touch This in blue or silver for $165 with free shipping from Endless.

Irregular Choice Lucite Lovely for $165 with free shipping at Endless.

Adult Steampunk Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Seychelles Exclamation Point for $72.19 with free shipping at Endless.

Demonia Tesla 03 in black or brown for $64.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.

Irregular Choice Cortesan Floral Bar for $140 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Sweet Ending in eggplant, green, or grey for $97.95 at Shoebuy.

In addition to these ready-made pairs, there are options for getting custom shoes in this style.  Find information on custom Steampunk boots and Victorian lace covering for shoes on Etsy (note: price is for customization only and does not include the cost of the shoes).

Need a discount?  Here are some coupon codes for some of the stores listed above:

Shoebuy Coupon code EMLTRAINING12 gives $7 off one pair of shoes, $15 off two, or $25 off three or more (exp. 4/17/12).

BuyCostumes Coupon code APRIL20 gives 20% off (working as of now, but may expire by today 4/16/12).  Or, sign up for their email list to get a 15% off coupon or use code BUYMORE to get $5 off $50 or more (exp. 4/22/12).

Sinister Soles Coupon code FALL20 gives 20% off $40 or more (expiration unknown).

Hopefully this helps out!

Spring Shoes with bird detail: Miss L-Fire Bluebird & Irregular Choice

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Spring officially sprung earlier this week and what better way to celebrate the new season than with a pair of bird shoes?  Yes, that’s right, birds on your shoes.  It may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think of how to express yourself shoe-wise this spring and summer, but after I came across a few really cute and whimsical shoes with bird print, it made total sense to me.  I’ve got a little thing for birds anyway, as does my family, so it’s definitely up my alley and a unique twist on shoes for spring – one that you certainly don’t see all that often.

I saw the pair pictured above, the Miss L-Fire Blubird, first at Modcloth listed as the Tweet of Feet shoe and was a bit disappointed that it sold out so quickly (only size 6 left).  I set out to hunt it down somewhere else (maybe “hunt” isn’t the best choice of words, come to think of it) and found them on the UK-based Miss L-Fire website, but they only have a few sizes left on pre-order.  Then I discovered that Heels.com has it in stock, so if you really love the Miss L-Fire Bluebird, you better shake a tail feather because they could go fast.  You can get them for $89.99 with free shipping.

Want more bird shoes?  Irregular Choice has some options too:

Irregular Choice Fresh Cut Grass in red for $120 at Amazon, in black for $154.99 at Modcloth (listed as Dove Actually), or in red, black, or green for $155 at Musthaveshoes.

Irregular Choice Whoopi in blue for $124.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes or in black for $119.95 at Infinity Shoes with free shipping via coupon code ISFREESHIP (limited time offer).

Update: We have another bird print shoe from Iron Fist, the Iron Fist Birds of a Feather for $59.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

Update 2: I’m loving this bird print option too.  It’s the Irregular Choice Kupcake for $165 at Karmaloop.

While we’re on the topic of Miss L-Fire shoes, I had to mention some more styles from the brand.  These don’t incorporate the bird theme, but they are definitely lots of fun:

Miss L-Fire Chica Chica Boom rainbow wedge for $119.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.  Also available in black and pink.

Miss L-Fire Gabriella for $135.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this weekend, so if you have plans for this Saturday and want to get into the spirit of the holiday by wearing green, why not do it with your shoes?  Shoes are the perfect way to have a little fun with the tradition of donning the shade and there are certainly plenty of options for whatever you have planned for the day.  Plus, you just might have a little extra luck on your side – at least that’s what they say – and you definitely won’t get pinched.  That’s why I always love to check out the footwear available in green every time St. Patty’s Day draws near.  One pair I came across, the Mojo Moxy Petals in green (pictured above), is one that I find particularly appros for the day.  These are floral, but you have to admit some of the detail looks a lot like clovers – if only they were 4-leaf, right?  Still a great option and you can find these for $79.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless, plus get 20% off $100 select styles with coupon code FRNDSFAM through 3/15/12.  There are limited sizes left, but we have plenty additional options.  Let’s take a look:

Shoes to Love: Heels & Flats with Hearts

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

It’s Valentine’s Day and I hope love is in the air for everyone, but perhaps a little shoe love is in order.  Something I’m always sweet on is the use of heart detail on shoes.  It doesn’t matter the style of shoe – whether classic or edgy or eclectic or casual – a heart always adds a nice dose of girly romance to the look.  That’s why I’ve rounded up a variety of styles (a little something for everyone, you might say) that all display the ultimate symbol of love in some form or fashion.  One that I’m particularly loving is the Betsey Johnson Glitzeee, a sparkly peep toe pump with heart that’s available for $132.95 with free shipping at Endless.  You also get an extra 20% off at checkout through 2/14/12.  Or, you get them for $132.05 with free shipping at Shoes.com with 20% off via coupon code SECRET20 through 2/15/12.  You can also get it in black with red lips – very appros for Valentine’s Day – as well as star and lightning bolt versions.

If you prefer a flat, you can find the adorable Betsey Johnson Smoooch for $77.99 with free shipping at Zappos.

Another cute flat with heart detail: The Miss Me Mooz-16 in black/red or grey/pink for $15.99 with free shipping at 6pm.

To get a a red sequin heart on the back of a pretty bow pump, try the Iron Fist Jen’s Heart for $54.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

More from Iron Fist: The Iron Fist Loose Lips (pictured) or the very similar Iron Fist Love Bites, both in leopard prints with heart charm detail.  These shoes are both available at Amazon with prices that vary by size and color.

For a super-sexy vibe, go for the Betsey Johnson Baamm in leopard for $139.99 at Dillards.

Or, the Betsey Johnson Boomm with heart detail on the platform for $84.99 with free shipping at 6pm.

It looks like Cupid’s been paying a visit to Irregular Choice – just check out that heel.  The Irregular Choice Oh Ello, which is $199 at Irregular Choice, has a cutout wedge heel with hearts and an arrow going through the center, plus it’s topped off with a dramatic flower bouquet.  Other styles with this heel include the Irregular Choice Iris Blue and the Irregular Choice Miss Twiss.

Another cute and quirky choice with heart detail from the same brand: The Irregular Choice I’m From Bury for $115 at Irregular Choice (almost sold out) or $139 at Must Have Shoes.

For a platform with an edgy vibe and sweet heart cutout in the heel, check out the T.U.K. A8047L for $114 with free shipping at Endless.  Similar styles include the T.U.K. A8046L in red and black for $114 and the T.U.K. A7877L in leopard for $110.  A 20% discount applies to each of these automatically at checkout through 2/14/12.

Also from the same brand, the T.U.K. A8052L in gold/black or the T.U.K. A8051L in blue/black with heart cutout in the heel, but a lower platform than the styles above.  These are both $104.50 with free shipping and eligible for an automatic 20% off at checkout through 2/14/12.

Finally, if you’re a cowgirl at heart, you’ll love these Durango Crush Heart Boots with heart-shaped cutouts.  They come in red, taupe or black at Amazon with prices from $113 depending on size and color selection.

I hope everyone has a wonderful V-day!

Prices and promotions subject to change.

Heels with Wings: Irregular Choice Mayhem

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

I’ve always really admired the eclectic approach taken by Irregular Choice, but I have to say they are slaying it with some of their new fall styles for 2011.  I mean, please, check this shoe out: The Irregular Choice Mayhem, possibly the crown jewel of their current collection —  shoes with wings that I find completely amazing.  I do see a likely Alexander McQueen influence here — you can see some McQueen wing shoes from fall 2010 pictured over at Nitrolicious — but it’s definitely their own unique interpretation of the look, plus they don’t run thousands of dollars in price.  There’s also a black version:

There are so many cool details on this shoe: a stylized silver wing topped with actual feathers, a fuzzy “calf hair” effect on the platform and heel, sparkly detail on both the outside of the shoe and the insole — basically these are blowing my mind right now.  I mean, really, what kind of life adventure could winged heels take you on?  The sky is the limit.

If you love them too, find them at Irregular Choice in red or black for $195.  Update: You can also find them at Must Have Shoes in red or black for the same price.

Irregular Choice Abigail’s Party in sequins + discounts

Monday, August 15th, 2011

I don’t know about you guys, but I have been oh-so-crazy busy over the past week that I am totally ready to indulge in a little shoe fantasy again, even if just for a bit of diversion.  The object of my affection right now?  Abigail’s Party.  Ok, it’s actually Abigail’s 3rd party because clearly Abigail, whomever she is, loves herself a fancy little soiree.  Yes, we’ve seen this same shoe from Irregular Choice recreated in many lovely patterns and colors, but I have to admit that the blue-green sequin version (above) grabbed me immediately.  It’s fanciful, not really practical, and I’m not even sure what I’d wear with it exactly, but I do know that it looks like a pretty little party for the feet and I, for one, would covet an invite.  It could also be a wedding shoe option for the bride who wants something whimsical —  I actually came across it after searching for some wedding shoe options requested by a Facebook friend.  You can find the Irregular Choice Abigail’s 3rd Party at Irregular Choice for $155.  If the light blue color isn’t your thing, there’s also an all-black version for the same price, as well as this pair from Shoebuy:

You really can’t beat the black / tan combo for a little extra versatility and I’m definitely loving it.  You can even get a discount: Shoebuy has it for $144.95 and coupon code EMLBIGGESTSALE11 takes 25% off, making the Irregular Choice Abigail’s Party $108.71 with free shipping.  Update: Also available at Must Have Shoes for $145.  There’s a purple floral pair for the same price:

If you love other styles from Irregular Choice, I also found these coupons that can be used to get a discount on the brand (and more shoes).  Choose your personal fave, then save with these offers:

Heels.com: Get 30% off your order, including Irregular Choice, with coupon code MOVINGONUP for a limited time.

Shoebuy: Get 25% off Irregular Choice shoes and more items with coupon code EMLBIGGESTSALE11 through 8/17/11.  Update: This code was extended and appears to be valid until 8/24/11.

Karmaloop: Find more color versions of the Irregular Choice Abigail’s Party and additional styles, some on sale.  Get 20% off $100 and free shipping with coupon code SAVE20 (first orders, expiration unknown).

Happy Monday!
