Shoes for Victorian Steampunk wedding style

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Help! I’m getting married in October. My dress is ivory lace. I’m looking for a victorian boot or really nice but not too expensive closed toe pump to wear! I’m a bit of a lace/steampunk geek, and finding shoes to fit is so hard! Can you help?

I received this request by email for some help finding Victorian and/or Steampunk bridal shoes and, thus, I got to have a bit of fun scouting out some nontraditional wedding shoes that reflect these styles in some way or another.  Some of the shoes I found are more Victorian – whether it be a hint of influence or more overt – and then there are those that also incorporate the edgy, industrial vibe that is often found with the Steampunk aesthetic: Think Victorian, but with a kick via heavy metal detail like gear embellishments (love this Steampunk wedding for inspiration).  Also, some of the shoes I found are costume shoes technically, but if they provide the right look, they are viable options for the intended purpose.  Of course, it all depends on the bride: her personal preferences, how far and literal she wants to go with the theme, and if she plans to wear traditional bridal colors like ivory or metallics or delve into darker shades like brown and black or even go with a print, like you see with the floral Poetic Licence Lady Victoria pictured above (These are available for $84 at Must Have Shoes).  Whatever the case may be, here are more various options I came across and, hopefully, one of these just might be a perfect fit:

Lace Victorian Tall Boots in Ivory for $44.99 at BuyCostumes.

Funtasma Dame 115 for $54.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  The ivory version is very close to being sold out, but they also carry gold (pictured) and black.  For a shorter version, try the Funtasma Dame 05 for $49.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy or the Ivory Victorian boot at BuyCostumes for $42.99.

Irregular Choice Milk Mint for $134.99 with free shipping from Heels.com.

Annette Adult Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Poetic Licence Dorothy’s Dream in pewter or gold for $97.95 with free shipping at Endless.  The black version is $49.50.

Victoria Adult Boots for $49.99 at BuyCostumes.

Hades Eiffel with metallic Steampunk heel in black, brown, or burgundy for $127.95 at Shoebuy.  If you prefer the white “ice” version, it appears to be sold out in most places, but it shows as available at Funky Pair for $127.95.

Irregular Choice Can’t Touch This in blue or silver for $165 with free shipping from Endless.

Irregular Choice Lucite Lovely for $165 with free shipping at Endless.

Adult Steampunk Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Seychelles Exclamation Point for $72.19 with free shipping at Endless.

Irregular Choice Cortesan Floral Bar for $140 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Sweet Ending in eggplant, green, or grey for $97.95 at Shoebuy.

In addition to these ready-made pairs, there are options for getting custom shoes in this style.  Find information on custom Steampunk boots and Victorian lace covering for shoes on Etsy (note: price is for customization only and does not include the cost of the shoes).

Need a discount?  Here are some coupon codes for some of the stores listed above:

Shoebuy Coupon code EMLTRAINING12 gives $7 off one pair of shoes, $15 off two, or $25 off three or more (exp. 4/17/12).

Spring shoes that POP in neon

Friday, April 6th, 2012

With all of the bold color we’re seeing this season (which I was just discussing in my multicolor shoes post), it makes perfect sense that neon has once again emerged as a trend for spring and summer.  If you’re a lover of these ultra-bright hues, it’s not that you have to wait for them to be deemed trendy to wear them, but it does mean there are a lot more options to pick from.  And since neon packs a serious punch, a little goes a long way for making a bold statement; thus, wearing a pop of neon with your shoes is a particularly ideal way to apply the trend with ease.  I personally like the look of shoes in neutral shades, like taupe, combined with just enough neon to amp things up, like what you see with the Enzo Angiolini Timga pictured above.  It’s available for $120 at Endless and there’s also a neon pink version with a dark natural upper.  Here are some more of my current faves in fluorescent shades:

Vince Camuto Deric with bright yellow heel for $115 with free shipping at Amazon. Also available at Dillards.

Jessica Simpson Shavon colorblock heels with neon pink for $97.95 with free shipping at OnlineShoes.  Get $20 off $90, which drops the price on these to $77.95, using coupon code 20BLOOM through 4/30/12.

Ann Taylor Cheri in Caliente Coral for $178 at Ann Taylor.  Get 30% off with coupon code SPRING30 (expiration unknown).

Steve Madden Aaria in neon yellow on preorder for $149.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code MUSTHAVE25 takes 25% off $150 and gives free shipping through 4/10/12.  A pink version is also available.

Qupid Neutral neon green heels for $26.99 at Tilly’s.

Charlotte Russe neon wedge in pink or yellow on sale for $25 at Charlotte Russe.

Pour La Victoire Taryn in neon yellow for $189.99 with free shipping at Piperlime or $265 with free shipping at Endless.  It also comes in neon pink.

Fergie Protest in green for $69.95 with free shipping at Zappos.  It also comes in pink, yellow, and more color options.

Charlotte Russe neon orange heels for $30 at Charlotte Russe.  These shoes are eligible for their Buy 1, get 2nd for $12.50 promotion, as are these cute neon flats they offer.

Sole Boutique Posh Dynamo neon flats with spikes for $33 at Karmaloop.  They also come in neon yellow for $46. Update: Also available at Urban Originals for $33.50.

Have a fun weekend and a wonderful Easter!

More or Less: Andreia Chaves Invisible Shoe & Sole Boutique Posh Fairest Shoe

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

I remember watching a TV show once that described how an invisible suit could be possible using technology that, in laymen’s terms, would involve a suit with tiny cameras all over it that record what is behind the person wearing it.  These images are then projected to the front of the suit, which would essentially render one invisible, like becoming part of the background (similar to what is described here).  I thought that was pretty cool and something that seems similar in concept to the Andreia Chaves Invisible Shoe (above).  This shoe doesn’t use high-tech cameras, but it does use all-over mirrored pieces that reflect whatever is around the shoe, which would have the effect of it blending into its surroundings.  But, despite that, I imagine that these aren’t the type of shoes that actually blend in when worn – these are futuristic, showstopping shoes made for being seen and garnering attention wherever they go.  But, all that hype doesn’t come cheap: Priced at $3,995.95 at Solestruck, they fall way out of the realm of possibility for many of us.

When I saw the Sole Boutique Posh Fairest Shoe at Karmaloop, I immediately thought of the Invisible Shoe.  It isn’t exactly like it, of course, but appears to be inspired by it with its reflective mirror patches and an overall similar silhouette.  But, this bold look can be had for well over 3K less – You can find it for $86 at Karmaloop.  Coupon code 10OFF takes $10 off your order for a limited time (expiration unknown).

Monday, February 20th, 2012

You know you really like a shoe when you see it once and you then keep thinking about it and going back to take little peeks at it afterwards.  So, I definitely have a bit of a crush on this cute heel, the Gianni Bini Spikey Slingback.  It’s not only the bow and spike detail, which provide that girly-slash-tough mix many of us tend to favor, but it’s the color.  Yes, this bold aqua color could add quite a punch to a girl’s spring wardrobe.  The Gianni Bini brand is available exclusively at Dillards and this pair is $89.99 in blue, black, pink, or red.  And be sure to check out all Gianni Bini shoes because there plenty of other sweet styles you just might start crushing on yourself.  Update: This pair is also a look-alike for the Christian Louboutin Lady Clou Spike, just a more affordable version.

New fall shoes on sale at Endless + more shoes on discount

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Endless is one of my go-to online shoe stores for their wide selection and extra-quick shipping options, but I especially love when they have a good sale on top of all of that.  Right now, they are offering a discount of $25 off $80 on select women’s shoes and more items (update: expired), which is pretty good, but it’s even more notable considering that many eligible styles are new arrivals for fall.  That’s a nice way to get an early discount on something fresh and new for the upcoming season, but there’s also some summer styles eligible as well.  With nearly 2,000 shoe options, there’s definitely plenty to choose from, but one that caught my eye is the pretty Poetic Licence Sweet Dreams (pictured above), which has a very delicate and romantic look with it’s sheer dotted lace detail that runs all the way up to the ankle.  It comes in black, champagne, or dark pink for $129 with free overnight shipping, but falls to $104 after the discount, which is applied automatically during the final stage of checkout.  Here are a couple of more options I found:

The Not Rated Short Stack is another pair from the Not Rated brand with a studded wedge heel very similar to the Jeffrey Campbell Tick.  It comes in white (pictured), black, grey, tan, or yellow for $84.95 with free overnight shipping.  After the discount, you can get them for $59.95.

This pair stood out because of it’s cool black and white giraffe pattern and it’s sweet little price tag for a statement-making fall boot.  Get a little wild in the Michael Antonio Melati, which is $95 before the discount and $70 after.  Free overnight shipping is included and it also comes in an all black version.

I then spotted a nice price on the Sam Edelman Lorissa in Truffle.  It’s marked down to $114.71 and falls to under $100 after the discount – $89.71 with free 2-day shipping to be exact.  There are more options available at various price points depending on the color selected.

For many more, check out all of the shoes on sale.  The $25 discount is available for a limited time (expiration unknown, but the discount will show on the product page if available) and all prices are subject to change.

Update: The $25 off $80 promo listed in this post is now expired.

Fun Shoes for Friday: Nine West Grase

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Thank goodness it’s Friday!  And thank goodness for this gorgeous red heel, which might just have you feeling compelled to walk away from people more often.  But, no worries — it’s all in the name of showing off the stunning view from the back.  Here’s the front view:

The Nine West Grase takes a closed toe, red satin pump and totally ups the glam factor with the rhinestone and sequin detail.  I’m loving this red version most of all, but it also comes in black satin, black suede, light grey suede, or tan suede, each with clear rhinestones rather than the colored ones on the red pair.  Get them on pre-order at Nine West for $109 with an expected ship date of 7/26/11.  You’ll also see another $10 off $50 automatically at checkout, making them $99, and free shipping for a limited time.
