Shoes that WOW from behind

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

It’s natural to want to put your best fashion details forward, so they can be admired when facing a person, but there’s certainly something to be said for leaving a lasting impression while walking away.  That’s why I tend to like shoes with eye-catching details placed on the back of the heel – the kind of styles that just might have you sauntering away from people way more often, but all in the name of a little harmless showing off.  For instance, we have the Sam Edelman Evan, which is an unassuming closed-toe pump in the front:

But it goes all-out glam in the back with its metallic and studded corset detail.

In addition to the black and gold version, which is available at Revolve Clothing for $150 or at Bloomingdales for the same price, there is also this metallic gold and silver Zinc option (also pictured at very top):

Heels.com has this one for $169.99.

I’ve also been seriously admiring this boot lately, even though I’m so not in fall boot mode yet:

Sure, this one has standout detail in the front in the form of a dramatic spikey collar around the ankle, but it’s also got an interesting element in the back via extra-long fringe:

I’ve always admired the compelling swaying effect this type of fringe makes when the wearer is in motion and the Jeffrey Campbell Amanda Spk can be found at Lori’s Shoes in beige or black for $228.95.

Here’s another one that’s sleek and simple up front:

But there’s a glitter party going on around back (very Miu Miu like, btw).

You can find the Vince Camuto Hariza for $148.95 at Nordstrom.

Finally, we have the Report Signature Targee, which appears to be a tame little nude platform pump:

But it definitely shows its wild side with this fringy mane that runs along the back of the heel:

Oh yes, the element of surprise tends to leave a lasting impression.

These can be found at Lulus for $189.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

DV by Dolce Vita Bunny hot pink heels with mini bow

Friday, May 11th, 2012

I have to gush over this shoe a bit today because I’m finding it pretty adorable.  Of course, the first thing you notice is the really bold pink color, which I love, but I’m also quite taken with the miniature metallic bow on the top.  Let’s take a closer look:

Too cute!  I like that the bow is demure and not overly distracting, but it still manages to add a little extra, extra to an otherwise ordinary platform pump.  But, if you’d rather take a more neutral approach, the shoe comes in blush and black as well:

I think I’ll take one of each, actually.  The nice thing is these are relatively affordable at $99, which doesn’t mean I could afford all three colors, unfortunately, but it isn’t too terribly expensive for adding a classically styled pump with a bit of fun and flirty detail to your shoe wardrobe.  You can find the DV by Dolce Vita Bunny at Zappos with free shipping.

Happy Friday!

Spring Shoes in Pastels: Nine West Topshoe Mary Jane peep toe pumps

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

I’ve been admiring the Nine West Topshoe lately for all of the pretty pastel shades it’s offered in.  Pastels, of course, are very on-trend this spring and when combined with this striking Mary Jane silhouette and contrasting heel and strap, it’s hard not to love this style.  But, if I were to buy it, what would be hard is picking out a favorite hue.  I mean, there’s the pastel green you see above, which is particularly lovely since mint shades have been hot this season, but then there’s also this gorgeous sky blue version (I have a bit of a weakness for this color):

Or a pretty in pink option:

Or a splash of yellow, never a bad thing:

Then again, one could nix the pastels and go with the versatility of black and white, a color combo that’s always hard to resist:

If you’re feeling much more decisive than me about one of these options, you’ll be glad to know about some sales and discounts available.  Nine West has just marked them down from $89 to $69 and they also have free shipping.  Nine West doesn’t have the black and white pair, but Macys has them for $89 and you can get 25% off with coupon code FRIENDS until 4/30/12.  If you need more size options (many are sold out at Nine West), you can also find all of the shades except yellow at Endless for $89.  If you spend over $100 on eligible styles, including this one, you can get 20% off your order using coupon code MOTHER20 through 5/13/12.  Zappos has yellow, blue, and black/white for $89 with free shipping.

Which shade is your fave?

Shoes for Victorian Steampunk wedding style

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Help! I’m getting married in October. My dress is ivory lace. I’m looking for a victorian boot or really nice but not too expensive closed toe pump to wear! I’m a bit of a lace/steampunk geek, and finding shoes to fit is so hard! Can you help?

I received this request by email for some help finding Victorian and/or Steampunk bridal shoes and, thus, I got to have a bit of fun scouting out some nontraditional wedding shoes that reflect these styles in some way or another.  Some of the shoes I found are more Victorian – whether it be a hint of influence or more overt – and then there are those that also incorporate the edgy, industrial vibe that is often found with the Steampunk aesthetic: Think Victorian, but with a kick via heavy metal detail like gear embellishments (love this Steampunk wedding for inspiration).  Also, some of the shoes I found are costume shoes technically, but if they provide the right look, they are viable options for the intended purpose.  Of course, it all depends on the bride: her personal preferences, how far and literal she wants to go with the theme, and if she plans to wear traditional bridal colors like ivory or metallics or delve into darker shades like brown and black or even go with a print, like you see with the floral Poetic Licence Lady Victoria pictured above (These are available for $84 at Must Have Shoes).  Whatever the case may be, here are more various options I came across and, hopefully, one of these just might be a perfect fit:

Lace Victorian Tall Boots in Ivory for $44.99 at BuyCostumes.

Funtasma Dame 115 for $54.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  The ivory version is very close to being sold out, but they also carry gold (pictured) and black.  For a shorter version, try the Funtasma Dame 05 for $49.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy or the Ivory Victorian boot at BuyCostumes for $42.99.

Irregular Choice Milk Mint for $134.99 with free shipping from Heels.com.

Annette Adult Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Poetic Licence Dorothy’s Dream in pewter or gold for $97.95 with free shipping at Endless.  The black version is $49.50.

Victoria Adult Boots for $49.99 at BuyCostumes.

Demonia Glam-240 for $73.99 at Sinister Soles.  Also available at Shoebuy for $104.95.

Irregular Choice Flick Flack for $129 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Spitfire in cream for $129 with free shipping at Endless.

Irregular Choice Abigails 3rd Party in gold for $155 with free shipping at Endless.

Pleaser Arena-208 Victorian Button Boots for $56.99 at Sinister Soles. A similar, shorter version is the Pleaser Splendor-130 for $52.99.

Hades Eiffel with metallic Steampunk heel in black, brown, or burgundy for $127.95 at Shoebuy.  If you prefer the white “ice” version, it appears to be sold out in most places, but it shows as available at Funky Pair for $127.95.

Irregular Choice Can’t Touch This in blue or silver for $165 with free shipping from Endless.

Irregular Choice Lucite Lovely for $165 with free shipping at Endless.

Adult Steampunk Shoes for $42.99 at BuyCostumes.

Seychelles Exclamation Point for $72.19 with free shipping at Endless.

Demonia Tesla 03 in black or brown for $64.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.

Irregular Choice Cortesan Floral Bar for $140 at Irregular Choice.

Poetic Licence Sweet Ending in eggplant, green, or grey for $97.95 at Shoebuy.

In addition to these ready-made pairs, there are options for getting custom shoes in this style.  Find information on custom Steampunk boots and Victorian lace covering for shoes on Etsy (note: price is for customization only and does not include the cost of the shoes).

Need a discount?  Here are some coupon codes for some of the stores listed above:

Shoebuy Coupon code EMLTRAINING12 gives $7 off one pair of shoes, $15 off two, or $25 off three or more (exp. 4/17/12).

BuyCostumes Coupon code APRIL20 gives 20% off (working as of now, but may expire by today 4/16/12).  Or, sign up for their email list to get a 15% off coupon or use code BUYMORE to get $5 off $50 or more (exp. 4/22/12).

Sinister Soles Coupon code FALL20 gives 20% off $40 or more (expiration unknown).

Hopefully this helps out!

Spring Shoes with bird detail: Miss L-Fire Bluebird & Irregular Choice

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Spring officially sprung earlier this week and what better way to celebrate the new season than with a pair of bird shoes?  Yes, that’s right, birds on your shoes.  It may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think of how to express yourself shoe-wise this spring and summer, but after I came across a few really cute and whimsical shoes with bird print, it made total sense to me.  I’ve got a little thing for birds anyway, as does my family, so it’s definitely up my alley and a unique twist on shoes for spring – one that you certainly don’t see all that often.

I saw the pair pictured above, the Miss L-Fire Blubird, first at Modcloth listed as the Tweet of Feet shoe and was a bit disappointed that it sold out so quickly (only size 6 left).  I set out to hunt it down somewhere else (maybe “hunt” isn’t the best choice of words, come to think of it) and found them on the UK-based Miss L-Fire website, but they only have a few sizes left on pre-order.  Then I discovered that Heels.com has it in stock, so if you really love the Miss L-Fire Bluebird, you better shake a tail feather because they could go fast.  You can get them for $89.99 with free shipping.

Want more bird shoes?  Irregular Choice has some options too:

Irregular Choice Fresh Cut Grass in red for $120 at Amazon, in black for $154.99 at Modcloth (listed as Dove Actually), or in red, black, or green for $155 at Musthaveshoes.

Irregular Choice Whoopi in blue for $124.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes or in black for $119.95 at Infinity Shoes with free shipping via coupon code ISFREESHIP (limited time offer).

Update: We have another bird print shoe from Iron Fist, the Iron Fist Birds of a Feather for $59.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

Update 2: I’m loving this bird print option too.  It’s the Irregular Choice Kupcake for $165 at Karmaloop.

While we’re on the topic of Miss L-Fire shoes, I had to mention some more styles from the brand.  These don’t incorporate the bird theme, but they are definitely lots of fun:

Miss L-Fire Chica Chica Boom rainbow wedge for $119.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.  Also available in black and pink.

Miss L-Fire Gabriella for $135.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up this weekend, so if you have plans for this Saturday and want to get into the spirit of the holiday by wearing green, why not do it with your shoes?  Shoes are the perfect way to have a little fun with the tradition of donning the shade and there are certainly plenty of options for whatever you have planned for the day.  Plus, you just might have a little extra luck on your side – at least that’s what they say – and you definitely won’t get pinched.  That’s why I always love to check out the footwear available in green every time St. Patty’s Day draws near.  One pair I came across, the Mojo Moxy Petals in green (pictured above), is one that I find particularly appros for the day.  These are floral, but you have to admit some of the detail looks a lot like clovers – if only they were 4-leaf, right?  Still a great option and you can find these for $79.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless, plus get 20% off $100 select styles with coupon code FRNDSFAM through 3/15/12.  There are limited sizes left, but we have plenty additional options.  Let’s take a look:

For hittin’ the townI bet that you’d look good on the dance floor in these:

Find My Shoes: Jimmy Choo Bello look-alike + low heel clear crystal shoes

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Happy Friday to everyone!  Today, I’m talking about two requests I received to help find bridal shoes and, since the inquiries were somewhat similar, I’m going to include them both in one Find My Shoes post.  The first request is for a more affordable version of the gorgeous Jimmy Choo Bello wedge you see pictured above (love!) and the other is for a low-heel, crystal-covered shoe, preferably with a clear upper.  So, I set my sights on some similar options and found some potential pairs.  Let’s dive right in, shall we?

First, we have options for the wedge.  I find that the sparkling, textured upper, the slim silhouette, and the wedge heel (3.5 inches, no high platform) are the three features that stand out most on the Jimmy Choo pair, which are priced at $595 at Nordstrom.  While I didn’t see any lower-priced options with these exact features, I did find shoes that incorporate at least two out of three, so they could be possibilities based on which elements matter most to the wearer.  I think the closest look to the Choos overall is the Butter Calm in silver (above), which is $304 at Amazon.  Here are some more:

Nina Fern for $78.95 at Nordstrom.

Nine West Flax in Light Gold on sale for $58.65 with free shipping at 6pm.

Enzo Angiolini Roxas for $99 at Bloomingdales.

Touch Ups Autumn for $89.95 at Onlineshoes.com.  Coupon code 2WINDY10 takes 10% off regularly-priced items through 3/31/12.

J.Renee Arlinda in silver for $52.11 with free 2-day shipping from Endless.

Lulu Townsend Chic for $49.95 at DSW.

Celeste Marisa-03 for $70.99 with free 2-day shipping from Endless.

If none of these quite fit, perhaps a custom shoe is in order.  The “blank slate” wedge you see above is one style that’s available at Milk & Honey Shoes, a site that offers the option to choose from various shoe styles and add the exact options you want,  such as material, heel height, and more for a price of $275.

Now, we have options for the low-heeled clear shoes with crystals – A Cinderella slipper, you might say, and one that is around two inches or less in the heel.  Here’s what I found:

Lava Melody-3065 for $49.95 or the similar Lava Riviera-3025 for $44.95 at MetallicBridalShoes.com.

Lava Dawn-3095 for $54.95 at MetallicBridalShoes.com.

Cinderella Slippers for $29.95 at Pyramid Collection.

Melissa Ultragirl + J. Maskrey flat for $350 at Endless.

Touch Ups Candy for $74.95 with free shipping at Onlineshoes.com.  Coupon code 2WINDY10 takes 10% off regularly-priced items through 3/31/12.

Steve Madden I-Dreamy for $49.98 at Stevemadden.com.

Another option might be purchasing a completely clear shoe and adding crystals to it, either through a company or individual that provides this type of service or even DIY it if you feel so inclined.  Here are some shoes that could work for this type of scenario:

Touch Ups Cinderella for $55.95 with free shipping at Shoebuy.  Coupon EMLSPRINGAHEAD12 takes 20% off through 3/11/12.

Vaneli Briseis on sale for $36.60 with free shipping at 6pm.

Update – More options I came across:

Express Glitter Open-Toe Midi-Wedge on sale for $34.93 at Express.  I also found a flat clear sandal with rhinestone detail at Aldo, the Aldo Resteika for $40.

Annie Bobby II for $39.95 at DSW.

Update 2: Another option for the Jimmy Choos with similar detail on the upper and a silver metallic heel:

J. Renee Selah for $104.95 at Nordstrom.

Hopefully this helps and thanks for the requests.

Have a great weekend!
