Shoes on American Idol: Gold glitter heels from San Francisco auditions

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Jennifer Lopez apparently doesn’t compliment people on their shoes very often - something she admitted herself on American Idol last night during the San Francsco auditions - but the shoes worn by Idol hopeful Julie Zorrilla, whose family came to the U.S. from Colombia, drew praise from the super-stylish star.  Jennifer loved her gold glitter heels and her singing voice, all of which translated to a golden ticket to Hollywood for Julie.  We’ve seen a lot of stand-out sparkly shoes on TV lately, like Adrienne’s pair on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, so the ongoing “glitter/rhinestone/crystal/anything shiny” trend on shoes still seems to be reigning supreme.  To find your own pair of gold platform pumps, much like the JLo-approved pair worn by Julie, try these styles:

The Aldo Gones gold glitter heel with ankle strap appears to be the exact shoe worn on the show.  You can get these at Aldo for $80.  Coupon code 298416447 takes 10% off your order (expiration unknown).  Here are a few more options without the ankle strap:

Steve Madden Caryssa in gold glitter for $129.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code rmn15f takes 15% off and gives free shipping, making them $110.46 (expiration unknown).  Get a better price at Piperlime, where they are $89.99 with free shipping, but few sizes are left.

Victoria G for $85 with free shipping at Bakers.

Mossimo Viviana for $29.99 at Target.

Adrienne wears sparkly Disco Ball shoes on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills + similar styles for less

Friday, January 21st, 2011

If you watched the finale of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills last night, you know that the drama and shenanigans reached new heights in this episode, particularly at Taylor’s birthday party.  More accurately, it reached a frenzy (I’m looking at you Kim and Kyle.  Sisters 4-eva, ladies), but just in time for an extra-juicy reunion.  Amidst the chaos, there was Adrienne Maloof, the voice of reason, and her gorgeous shoes.  Everyone at Taylor’s party was complimenting her on her sparkly Gianmarco Lorenzi Disco Ball shoes (pictured above), which they dubbed “Dorothy” shoes.  If you want the exact style for yourself, follow these instructions carefully:  Go to Gregory’s Shoes.  Drop $2,795.  Sqeal with delight.  Game over.

Update: Here’s the silver version available for the same price at Gregory’s.  They also have similar black pair for $2,995.

If you don’t have the funds, you might check out this look-alike version:

I saw this style on Luux.com.  It’s the Fever Tiff and it comes in gold, brown or black for $275.  There are sizes available in the black version now and a couple left in brown with more on the way at the end of the month.  If you like the gold version, it is currently sold out with more coming in February.

Update: Another close lookalike from Fever, the Fever Ramona for $275.

For something less similar, but still hella sparkly, try one of these shoes:

Steve Madden Scandall in gold glitter for $109.95 at Steve Madden.  Apply coupon code rmn15f (expiration unknown) to get 15% off and free shipping, making them $93.46. Also check for your size at 6pm, where they are just $59.97 with $6.95 for shipping, but few sizes are left.

Another Steve Madden pair, the SM Karro for $59.95 at DSW.  Members get free shipping with coupon code SHIPR until 3/21/11.  You can also find the same style in what looks like a different glitter color for $47.97 at 6pm.

The Enzo Angiolini Sully for $88.95 at Nordstrom.

Have a great weekend!

More or Less: Christian Louboutin No Prive Riche look-alike, the Steve Madden I-Lyddia

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Christian Louboutin shoes continue to reign as one of the most highly-coveted shoe brands in the world, so when the red-soled wonders are embellished with all-over crystals, the infatuation is taken to a whole different level (at least for those of us who love sparkly princess shoes).  But, these little crystals cost a pretty penny and catapult already-expensive Louboutins into even more unattainable territory.  Case in point: the gorgeous blue Christian Louboutin No Prive Riche, one of the currently available crystal styles (although almost sold out), is a whopping $2,875 at Barneys. For those of us with much less to spend on shiny shoes, there’s a similar option from Steve Madden:
Although not available in blue, the Steve Madden I-Lyddia offers plenty of bling via all-over rhinestone detailing and it’s priced approximately $2,725 less at $149.95.  You can save even more by applying coupon code BFRUGAL15 at checkout (exp. 12/31), which takes 15% off $75.  That drops the price to $127.46 and also gives free shipping.  Hmm…New Year’s shoes, anyone?

SOS: Clear heels, feather heels & more shoes on BOGO at Nine West

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

I love a shoe sale where you can stack discount upon discount, for obvious reasons, and that’s just what we’re seeing over at Nine West.  They’ve had an ongoing sale that takes 30% or 50% off select specially-marked shoes and boots, but they’ve upped the ante even more today by offering 50% off your second pair.  That’s a lot of savings, particularly on shoes that are already on sale and eligible for the extra 30% or 50% off at checkout and eligible for the BOGO savings when you buy two, plus shipping is free.  It may all sound a bit complicated but, no worries, all you have to do is add you favorite styles to your cart and it’s all calculated automatically for you at checkout.  Plus, I’ve worked up a couple scenerios to demonstrate the potential savings on some shoes that caught my eye.  Let’s check it out:

For a super-low priced option that’s also super-cute, try the Nine West Masqurede, which is on sale for $39.99 (retail $69) and eligible for another 30% off at checkout.  That makes it $27.99 and it also comes in solid black and leopard patent.

Add the Nine West Bonfire to your order, which is on sale for $49.99 (retail $89) and also eligible for 30% off - making it $34.99 - and the Masquerade drops to just $13.99.  That means you’ll get two classically versatile peep toe pumps in your closet for $48.98 shipped.  That’s not bad at all, but you might want to try something even more trendy.  Here’s another scenerio:

The Nine West Zizzi has the same classic peep toe pump silhouette as the shoes above, but it grabbed my attention because of its clear upper with sparkle detail.  Clear shoes have been around forever - think jellies and those huge clear platform heels that are mostly associated with dancers (of the exotic variety, that is) - but we’ve also seen a lot of high-end designers like Fendi, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and Prada experiment with materials like PVC and lucite.  It can definitely be hit or miss, but I think in many cases the desired effect is to make the foot look as bare as possible, like it’s just covered in sparkles.  We haven’t seen many moderately-priced options to get this effect (for example, the Jimmy Choo Niagra is a whopping $2,495), but the Nine West Zizzi looks like clear done right to me, plus it’s affordable at $79.

I also had to take note of the Nine West Blondie heels because shoes with feather detail aren’t exactly the easiest thing to come across.  There was definitely a lot of interest in those red feather Louboutin heels seen on Kim from Bravo’s The Real Housewives, but it’s not something everyone can spend big bucks on to try out.  These shoes are on sale for $59.99 (retail $89) and also come in black or green.  You get another 30% off at checkout, which drops them to $41.99.  Add the Zizzi clear heels to your cart and you can snag them for just $20.99.  The price for both is $99.99 shipped.

There are plenty more cute shoes to choose from at great prices, but you’ll have to shake a tail feather.  The BOGO sale ends today, 12/15/10.

Mariah Carey shoe line now available at HSN

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

Nick Cannon is reportedly having a hard time getting his shoe-loving wife, Mariah Carey, to ditch her high heels for flats while she’s pregnant with their first child, so it makes sense that her new line of shoes for HSN has nary a sensible shoe in sight - but who needs practical, right?  Mariah’s shoe collection, which made their official debut on HSN November 29th — along with jewelry and fragrance items – definitely exudes her signature style.  When I think of her typical style, I usually think of va-va-voom sexy diva or snowbunny Aspen diva, but she always goes all-out either way.  I also noticed that she seems to have garnered inspiration for her footwear from some of her own favorite high-end designers.  Need more proof of everything I’ve said above?  I’ve done a little digging and found some evidence, so let’s check it out:

Mariah is spotted on vaction in Aspen quite often, but she never lets that cold, snowy weather stop her from glamming it up in quilted jackets and plenty of fur.  That’s why it’s not surprising to see this Mariah Carey Suede Bootie with Faux Fur in the collection:

This style is on-trend and apparently has been quite popular - it sold out in a mere 6 minutes on HSN according to People and it’s almost sold out online as well.  I also noticed it’s very similar to this shoe, the Manolo Blahnik Nesta:

Both shoes feature an asymetrical cut lined with fur, although the Manolos have genuine fur rather than faux and retail for $1,295.  They are currently on sale at Nordstrom in grey or camel for a discounted $769.90.  The Mariah Carey pair is $129.90 and comes in 3 color options.

Here’s another cold weather style from the line that appears to offer more function than form against the elements, but it’s still decked out in fur, chains and patent detail.  This is the Mariah Carey Quilted Boot with Chain Detail in black for $149.90 and it’s the only flat style available in the collection.

Mariah is also well-known for wearing body-baring styles paired with super-high heels.  I like the look of her brown Gucci Lockhart boots in the picture on the left, which she wore during a David Letterman apppearance.  I couldn’t find them available for sale online, but this style offers a similar look for less:

This is the Mariah Carey Knit Boot with Buckles and Leather Trim and it’s available in black or brown for $149.90.

Of course, what would a Mariah Carey shoe collection be without a super-high platform heel with plenty of bling?  You can get that with her Mariah Carey Platform Sandal with Jeweled Stones in rose gold, gold or silver for $149.90.

If you like Mariah’s (somewhat) dressed down look, you might like these boots:

This is the Mariah Carey Suede Platform Peep-Toe Boot in black or rust for $199.90.

Finally, there’s the Mariah Carey Leather Pump Sneaker for $99.90.  A sneaker pump may not be for everyone, but I’m sure there are those who can pull off this funky style.  It comes in black/red or white/silver.

I’ve seen mixed reviews of the collection, but what do you guys think?  Let me know in the comments or on Facebook.

If you’re a new HSN customer, you may be able to save on your purchase with one of these HSN coupons.  Prices and availability are subject to change.

Ladies who Louboutin: Shoes worn by Lisa & Camille on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

I’m a self-proclaimed addict of the Real Housewives franchise on Bravo, so naturally I’m tuning in to the latest addition to the series: the Beverly Hills cast!  I’m pretty convinced that Bravo isn’t going to stop until we know just how every well-to-do woman lives, spends her money and catfights across every major city in the country (or the world, for that matter), but so far I’m along for the ride.  Of course, I could get all analytical and talk about how the show highlights the fact that money doesn’t necessarily bring happiness and security - these ladies all have their share of problems, let’s face it - but I’m much more interested in talking about the shoes.  Like previous housewives, the latest crop of ladies love their Louboutins - and who can blame them?  In the last episode, “The Art of War”, I spotted two housewives wearing the brand on the show and I had to find the shoes, along with some lower-priced lookalikes.  Let’s check it out:

Lisa VanderPump is an early fave of mine when it comes to the Beverly Hills cast.  She’s the posh, but likeable, housewife whose dog, named Giggy the Pom, blogs on Bravotv.com and has his own Twitter page - you know, just your average pooch.  While searching for what to wear to the premiere of Kelsey Grammer’s play La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway, we see Lisa wearing this shoe while trying clothes for the event:

This is the Christian Louboutin Poseidon and it was once available for $1,195 at Saks Fifth Avenue, but now appears to be sold out everywhere online.  For a similar look for less, try these shoes:

The Miss Me Jocelyn-22 for $59.95 sold by flyJane via Amazon or the Miss Me Nitron for the same price directly from flyJane.

The Carlos by Carlos Santana Pleasure in pewter for $54.45 with free 2-day shipping from Endless.

The Stuart Weitzman Avalon in natural python for $199 (regularly $398) at Jildor or in Buff Mica Python for $200 at 6pm.

Then there’s Camille Grammer, who is primarily known for being the wife of Kelsey Grammer (and we all know how that turns out), but is already making a name for herself on the show because she’s perfect for stirring up a little drama.  She vamps it up for Kelsey’s premiere in these hot pink satin Louboutins, which add a nice splash of color to her LBD (emphasis on the “L”):

This appears to be the pink version of the Christian Louboutin Greissimo, which I could only find on the UK site Cricket Liverpool.  But, here are some shoes that are very Camille and much less expensive:

This is the Bebe Lola in pink, available at Bebe.com for $149.

There’s also this feisty pink pump, the Martinez Valero Carolina for $81.75 with free shipping at Zappos.

By the way, if you found yourself seriously tempted by the chocolate Louboutins Lisa bought in an earlier episode, check out the chocolate shoes (sans red sole) over at Gayle’s Chocolates for $40 - $45 a piece.  It’s definitely a nice gift option for any shoe lover friends you might have.  Or, you know, for yourself.

More or Less: Jimmy Choo Crown lookalike, the Enzo Angiolini Sully

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

I’ve definitely been in holiday shoe overdrive lately, checking out all things shiny and pretty for the feet, and the Jimmy Choo Crown is another example of a pair of shoes that would be a great evening wear option.  The two-tone metallic color of these glitter pumps could certainly work well with a wide variety of looks and they’ll also add a nice dose of shimmer.  You can find the Jimmy Choo Crown at Saks Fifth Avenue for $695, which is actually not a bad price for Jimmy Choo (at least relative to something like the exorbitant $2,495 Jimmy Choo Niagra…whoa), but it’s still out of the realm of possibility, cost-wise, for many of us.  If you want a less expensive pair with a similar look,  here’s another option:

This is the Enzo Angiolini Sully and it’s available at Nordstrom for a fraction of the price at $88.95.  It’s also a plus that this shoe is sold in a wide variety of sizes (4-12) and 3 different width options to help ensure the best fit.  If you prefer a closed toe version, check out the Enzo Angiolini Smiles for $94.95.

Note: If you order at Nordstom and spend over $100, be sure to apply coupon code HOLIDAY10 for free shipping.
