Inexpensive shoes with flame detail inspired by Prada

Friday, June 1st, 2012

The Prada flame design shoes have been some of the most highly talked about designer shoe styles of the season, so it’s no surprise to see some lower-priced “inspired-by” versions starting to crop up.  Case in point: The Colorblock Flame Wedges that recently landed over at GoJane.  Of course, these shoes aren’t what you would call knockoffs – there are definitely major differences going on between them and any of the Prada flame shoes, but really you can’t directly compare high end designer styles considered by many to be pieces of art to another style that is so vastly different in price.  That being said, for $30, the GoJane pair is a pretty cool little shoe – and one that most definitely won’t break the bank.  It comes in black and neutral (pictured above), plus blue and red/pink versions.  Let’s check out a few different angles:

The bow also has a flame-like shape and definitely adds a unique touch.

Get the Colorblock Flame Wedge for $30 at GoJane.

Update: Another option with even more dramatic flames is the Sole Boutique Posh Calcifer for $66 from Karmaloop.

Have a great weekend!

A Woman’s Right to Something Blue Shoes…for less

Friday, May 18th, 2012

It’s hard to look at any royal blue satin heel with sparkly ornamentation at the toe, like the Glint Radiance pictured above, and not think of one thing: Sex and the City.  Of course, I’m talking about this shoe:

The Manolo Blahnik Something Blue, which is available at Bergdorf Goodman for $945, became a shoe icon after being featured prominently in the first Sex and the City movie and it’s inspired many a knockoff.  But, the Glint Radiance Pump (pictured top) is interesting because it has similar features of the Something Blue, but rather than being an exact replica, it’s actually a mish mash of it and another famous shoe style from the series:

The Manolo Blahnik Sedaraby d’orsay pump in silver (it also comes in blue) was one of the stars of the TV series in A Woman’s Right to Shoes.  Of course, this is the episode where Carrie attends a friend’s baby shower and the house rules are to take your shoes off at the door.  Carrie reluctantly does so and ends up having her shoes missing by the end of the party, which her friend offers to replace before finding out their price tag of $485.  This brought on some shoe shame by her friend for spending so much money on the shoes in the first place.  Of course, in the end, Carrie decides she does have a right to $485 shoes – and I quote, “The fact is, sometimes it’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun” – so after spending so much on her friend’s wedding and baby gifts, she makes a point by registering herself at Manolo Blahnik for the shoes and the friend finally agrees to replace them.  Such a great episode.

The Sedaraby is still available now, but at $755, even die-hard lovers of SATC who would love to obtain Carrie’s shoe style may just find it well out of their reach.  That’s why the Glint Radiance is a great alternative that combines features of both Manolos I’m talking about here, without being an exact copy of either, but at a much more affordable price of $119.95 at Nordstrom.  Not to mention, it’s a beautiful shoe in its own right with a different style of jewel decor that makes it stand out on its own.  In particular, I’m sure many brides will love the gorgeous blue version at the top for a little something blue in their shoes, but there is an ivory version (pictured above) that would also be ideal for walking down the aisle.

Of course, even though the shoes do have a bridal slant to them, you certainly don’t have to be getting married to wear them, as Carrie clearly demonstrated in the show as a single shoe-loving girl.  I really like the silver version for being the kind of shoe you can have on hand for the times you need to get a bit fancy and one that would quite literally go with anything you want to wear it with.  Ok, maybe not everything, but metallic silver is definitely known for its extreme versatility.

Another notable thing about these shoes: They come in a wide range of sizes, from 4-12.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Boutique 9 Nosey with geometric rhinestone heel & platform

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

These are the kind of shoes that will definitely put some bling in your step.  I came across the Boutique 9 Nosey recently and although we often see pumps bedazzled with small, circular rhinestones on the heel and platfom, these stood out to me because of the square and rectangular jewel detail, which is something you don’t see quite as often.  The shiny embellishments go all the way down the back of the heel for a nice effect and I also appreciate how they wrap all the way around the platform rather than stopping on the side, as seen here on the bright coral version:

In addition to coral, a fun color that seems to be popping up everywhere lately, there’s this bright blue version, which I think is my favorite:

Then again, it’s always hard to resist the combination of black patent with shiny gems:

This one would certainly be the most versatile of the three.  While I love the wow factor the bright colors provide, I have to admit that a black peep toe pump with an extra dose of shine has more potential for being a go-to style that would work with a wider variety of looks, which is quite tempting.

If you’re loving the Boutique 9 Nosey too, you can find them at Nordstrom for $149.95 with free shipping.

Spring Shoes in Pastels: Nine West Topshoe Mary Jane peep toe pumps

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

I’ve been admiring the Nine West Topshoe lately for all of the pretty pastel shades it’s offered in.  Pastels, of course, are very on-trend this spring and when combined with this striking Mary Jane silhouette and contrasting heel and strap, it’s hard not to love this style.  But, if I were to buy it, what would be hard is picking out a favorite hue.  I mean, there’s the pastel green you see above, which is particularly lovely since mint shades have been hot this season, but then there’s also this gorgeous sky blue version (I have a bit of a weakness for this color):

Or a pretty in pink option:

Or a splash of yellow, never a bad thing:

Then again, one could nix the pastels and go with the versatility of black and white, a color combo that’s always hard to resist:

If you’re feeling much more decisive than me about one of these options, you’ll be glad to know about some sales and discounts available.  Nine West has just marked them down from $89 to $69 and they also have free shipping.  Nine West doesn’t have the black and white pair, but Macys has them for $89 and you can get 25% off with coupon code FRIENDS until 4/30/12.  If you need more size options (many are sold out at Nine West), you can also find all of the shades except yellow at Endless for $89.  If you spend over $100 on eligible styles, including this one, you can get 20% off your order using coupon code MOTHER20 through 5/13/12.  Zappos has yellow, blue, and black/white for $89 with free shipping.

Which shade is your fave?

Spring Shoes with bird detail: Miss L-Fire Bluebird & Irregular Choice

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Spring officially sprung earlier this week and what better way to celebrate the new season than with a pair of bird shoes?  Yes, that’s right, birds on your shoes.  It may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think of how to express yourself shoe-wise this spring and summer, but after I came across a few really cute and whimsical shoes with bird print, it made total sense to me.  I’ve got a little thing for birds anyway, as does my family, so it’s definitely up my alley and a unique twist on shoes for spring – one that you certainly don’t see all that often.

I saw the pair pictured above, the Miss L-Fire Blubird, first at Modcloth listed as the Tweet of Feet shoe and was a bit disappointed that it sold out so quickly (only size 6 left).  I set out to hunt it down somewhere else (maybe “hunt” isn’t the best choice of words, come to think of it) and found them on the UK-based Miss L-Fire website, but they only have a few sizes left on pre-order.  Then I discovered that Heels.com has it in stock, so if you really love the Miss L-Fire Bluebird, you better shake a tail feather because they could go fast.  You can get them for $89.99 with free shipping.

Want more bird shoes?  Irregular Choice has some options too:

Irregular Choice Fresh Cut Grass in red for $120 at Amazon, in black for $154.99 at Modcloth (listed as Dove Actually), or in red, black, or green for $155 at Musthaveshoes.

Irregular Choice Whoopi in blue for $124.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes or in black for $119.95 at Infinity Shoes with free shipping via coupon code ISFREESHIP (limited time offer).

Update: We have another bird print shoe from Iron Fist, the Iron Fist Birds of a Feather for $59.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

Update 2: I’m loving this bird print option too.  It’s the Irregular Choice Kupcake for $165 at Karmaloop.

While we’re on the topic of Miss L-Fire shoes, I had to mention some more styles from the brand.  These don’t incorporate the bird theme, but they are definitely lots of fun:

Miss L-Fire Chica Chica Boom rainbow wedge for $119.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.  Also available in black and pink.

Miss L-Fire Gabriella for $135.95 with free shipping at Lori’s Shoes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Bloomingdales Shoe Sale & Coupon: Discounts on Sam Edelman Lorissa, Aqua Moxie & more

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Bloomingdales has a Fashionable Fundraiser sale going on right now and, of course, I had to check out all of the women’s shoes they have on discount for 20-40% off – and, let me tell you, there are plenty that I’d like to call my own.  One such pair is the Aqua Moxie strappy sandal pictured above, which is exclusive to Bloomingdales.  I’m loving this soft pink and glitter combo and there’s definitely a Miu Miu-esque vibe going on here, but the price is actually quite nice as well.  Normally $110, they are marked down to $77 and coupon code FASHION12 takes another 15% off to drop the price to $65.45.  Or, the code will give you 20% off your order if it’s $300 or more and you pay with a Bloomingdales card.  Note: There is also a black and gold version, but it’s sold out in most sizes.

Here are some more discount possibilities:

The Sam Edelman Lorissa in fresh new shades – aqua, yellow and bright silver for $200 – plus existing fave PINK for $225 – all get a 15% discount via the coupon code.

The Sam Edelman Novato in this cool colorblock version is priced at $100 and falls to $85 after the code.

The Enzo Angiolini Timga is available in muted pastels…

…or a bold pop of neon.  These are $120 and drop to $102 after coupon.  A purple and black version is also available.

There are plenty of more covetable shoe options available, so be sure to check it out.  The sale and coupon both expire 2/26/12 and shipping is free if you spend over $150.

Have a wonderful weekend!
