Jeffrey Campbell Skulltini skull studded shoes

Friday, July 13th, 2012

I thought these Jeffrey Campbell Skulltini flats would be particularly appros for Friday the 13th, but not because the skull symbol might be seen as a sign of doom and gloom; rather, that it’s actually considered to be a good luck symbol for warding off bad things:

 Source: whats-your-sign.com

A little superstition aside, I’m finding the tiny little skulls all over this shoe pretty adorable (albeit in a slightly dark kind of way) and I’m particularly drawn to the pure white-on-white version.  It’s also available in five other colors, each available at Solestruck for $159.95.

Have a very lucky rest of the day (and a fabulous weekend)!

4th of July shoes in stars & stripes & red, white & blue

Friday, June 29th, 2012

It’s almost the Fourth of July for those that celebrate here in the U.S. and I think one good way to go all out and put your patriotism on display is wearing shoes with an American flag motif.  That’s why I’ve searched around for styles with good ‘ol stars & stripes and some in red, white, and blue that may not be patterned directly after the flag, but still convey the all American theme.  One option with plenty of patriotic edge is the Iron Fist Allstar (pictured above), which is available at Heels.com for $89.99 with free 2nd day shipping, meaning that there’s still just enough time if to get them by July 3rd as I am writing this now (check the shipping info at the top to get order deadlines).  Let’s check out some more Independence Day themed options:

An ongoing fave, the Irregular Choice Chica Chola with flag detail on sale for $108.95 (regularly $188) at Karmaloop.  Coupon code ALLNEW takes 15% off and gives free shipping on orders over $100 for a limited time.

Karmaloop also has the Jeffrey Campbell Perfect Shoes in Stars and Stripes for $148 (promo codes do not apply).  A couple of more JC styles with flag detail are the Jeffrey Campbell Damsel for $182 and the Jeffrey Campbell Lita for $160.

If you love the Lita, but can’t quite shell out $160, this Lita-a-like might do the trick.  The American Flag Lace-Up Bootie is on sale for $37.95 (regularly $48) at GoJane.  They also have the $35 American Flag T-Strap Platform, which looks much like the Jeffrey Campbell Foxy.

I didn’t know that RuPaul had a shoe line with Iron Fist until I saw the RuPaul’s Drag Race Patriotic Pump, which is $74.99 with free 2nd day shipping at Heels.com.

6pm has the Naughty Monkey Marionette sandal in white, tan, or navy for $48.99 with free standard shipping.

The Naughty Monkey Shine Star is sprinkled with stars all over and available in red, blue, or black for $67.99 with free standard shipping at 6pm.  A similar style is the Star Print Platform Heel in red, blue, or black for $22.40 at GoJane.

I love high heels, but many 4th of July activities require going way more comfy and casual.  That’s why I definitely like these Vintage American Flag Flip Flops for $18.50 at Cafepress.

I was also looking around Etsy for 4th of July shoe clips and came across these Star And Stripes Patriotic Shoe Clips for $40 – are these not fab?

I also love this fun idea: A pair of flip flops with large floral shoe clips, one in red and one in blue. These Flop Toppers are $17 at Etsy.  The 4th of July Perky Bow Shoe Shoe Clip is another cute option I came across for $17 at Etsy.

Of course, if you plan to order anything online for the 4th, be sure to check with the retailer to determine if your order can arrive on time.

I hope everyone has a great holiday!

Shoes that Shine: Summer sandals with the mirror effect

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

One trend that I’ve been loving this season is the use of super-shiny, metallic detail on shoes, particularly when the shoe is otherwise neutral, but one part is accented with highly reflective metallic material or metal plate detail.  It’s basically like shoes with a pop of color, only with a pop of shine instead, which certainly adds a nice element of flash.  I also find it particularly appros for summer, when the sun is shining and high-gloss shoes reflect that light, creating a modern, oh-so-bright effect.  If you like reflective mirror detail on shoes too, especially at a moderate price point, I’ve rounded up various options that provide the look.  For instance, the Sam Edelman Yelena (pictured above) for $133 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.  You can also shop at Belk to get them on sale for $70 and shipping is free if your order totals $99 or more.  Here are some more:

Aldo Acal on sale for $41.99 (regularly $80) at Aldo.

Vince Camuto Kipton in gold or silver for $118 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.  Also available in both colors for $118 at Dillards.

Sam Edelman Sophie for $119.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Nine West Wewantit on sale for $59 (regularly $79) in 3 colors and $79 for the gold version at Nine West.  Shipping is free for a limited time.

Steve Madden Whyknot on pre-order for $109.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code SMSUMMER15 takes 15% off and gives free shipping (exp. 8/31/12).

Aldo Skillings on sale for $45.49 (regularly $90) at Aldo.

Nine West Cmon on sale for $49 (regularly $89) in 3 color options at Nine West.  Shipping is free for a limited time.

Happy Wednesday!

Tall gladiator sandals worn by Teresa on Real Housewives of New Jersey

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

In the last episode of The Real Houswives of New Jersey (June 3, 2012), Teresa Giudice wore knee-high gladiator sandals throughout the episode in at least two different styles, as seen in pics from the show above.  It’s a look she clearly embraces and, to me, it makes sense – these are the kind of shoes that give off a bold, warrior vibe, which just might be ideal for braving all the intense family drama going on this season.  I received a request to help find these shoes and although Teresa could very well be wearing a high-end designer version of this type of sandal, I found out on Twitter that she got them at Victoria’s Secret, which bodes well for those of us who can’t spend hundreds or thousands to try out a similar pair.  Victoria’s Secret does have quite a few tall gladiator sandals available now and I don’t know if any of these are the exact style Teresa wore on the show, but they definitely provide the same type of look.  Here are the options:

Colin Stuart Studded Convertible Gladiator Sandal in rose gold or black on sale for $69 (originally $98).  These can be worn with or without the leg straps.

Colin Stuart Gladiator T-Strap Sandal in 2 colors on sale for $79 (originally $98).

Rhinestone Gladiator Sandal on sale for $99 (originally $128).

Fringe Gladiator Sandal in 2 colors on sale for $79 (originally $98).

If you spend over $100 at Victoria’s Secret, coupon code SHIPVS12 will give free shipping through 7/5/12.

A little something funny….

Wednesday, May 30th, 2012

I’ve been sick the past few days and, admittedly, being under-the-weather has also left me feeling a little uninspired as far as blogging goes.  I know it’s temporary – cute shoes will always bring me back around eventually –  but I did get a unexpected boost when I saw this face staring up at me while browsing around at Solestruck:

I saw it and I’m thinking, Is that really a pair of shoesWith a plush gorilla on top?  And, yes, it actually is:

And this little guy totally put a smile on my face today.  It’s like he’s saying, “Hey, it’s all gonna be a-ok.”  And, you know what?  I think I believe him.  I haven’t ever featured a men’s shoe on this site before, but I figured some of you out there would get a kick out of them too.

You can find the Adidas Originals x Jeremy Scott Gorilla at Solestruck for $199.95.

Happy Hump Day!

A Woman’s Right to Something Blue Shoes…for less

Friday, May 18th, 2012

It’s hard to look at any royal blue satin heel with sparkly ornamentation at the toe, like the Glint Radiance pictured above, and not think of one thing: Sex and the City.  Of course, I’m talking about this shoe:

The Manolo Blahnik Something Blue, which is available at Bergdorf Goodman for $945, became a shoe icon after being featured prominently in the first Sex and the City movie and it’s inspired many a knockoff.  But, the Glint Radiance Pump (pictured top) is interesting because it has similar features of the Something Blue, but rather than being an exact replica, it’s actually a mish mash of it and another famous shoe style from the series:

The Manolo Blahnik Sedaraby d’orsay pump in silver (it also comes in blue) was one of the stars of the TV series in A Woman’s Right to Shoes.  Of course, this is the episode where Carrie attends a friend’s baby shower and the house rules are to take your shoes off at the door.  Carrie reluctantly does so and ends up having her shoes missing by the end of the party, which her friend offers to replace before finding out their price tag of $485.  This brought on some shoe shame by her friend for spending so much money on the shoes in the first place.  Of course, in the end, Carrie decides she does have a right to $485 shoes – and I quote, “The fact is, sometimes it’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun” – so after spending so much on her friend’s wedding and baby gifts, she makes a point by registering herself at Manolo Blahnik for the shoes and the friend finally agrees to replace them.  Such a great episode.

The Sedaraby is still available now, but at $755, even die-hard lovers of SATC who would love to obtain Carrie’s shoe style may just find it well out of their reach.  That’s why the Glint Radiance is a great alternative that combines features of both Manolos I’m talking about here, without being an exact copy of either, but at a much more affordable price of $119.95 at Nordstrom.  Not to mention, it’s a beautiful shoe in its own right with a different style of jewel decor that makes it stand out on its own.  In particular, I’m sure many brides will love the gorgeous blue version at the top for a little something blue in their shoes, but there is an ivory version (pictured above) that would also be ideal for walking down the aisle.

Of course, even though the shoes do have a bridal slant to them, you certainly don’t have to be getting married to wear them, as Carrie clearly demonstrated in the show as a single shoe-loving girl.  I really like the silver version for being the kind of shoe you can have on hand for the times you need to get a bit fancy and one that would quite literally go with anything you want to wear it with.  Ok, maybe not everything, but metallic silver is definitely known for its extreme versatility.

Another notable thing about these shoes: They come in a wide range of sizes, from 4-12.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Shoe review of b.o.c Acacia sandals

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

I did a little shopping over the weekend and decided that I wanted to find myself a cute maxi skirt for the summer months.  So, after picking one out in navy, I naturally came to the conclusion that I needed some new shoes to go with it.  Ok, I wanted some new shoes, but I totally justified it by reminding myself that I need way more flat sandal options in my closet right now.  Pink ones, with big flowers on them.  Thus, I now have my new b.o.c. Acacia shoes and figured I would share my impression of them so far.

I was looking for something to add some bright color and something I could slip on for more casual activities that require a decent amount of walking (like more shopping, perhaps?) and still keep my feet happy.  I’ve always liked the leather flower detail often found on Born and b.o.c shoes, but for whatever reason, I hadn’t ever bought a pair for myself.  Also, while a lot of flat sandals tend to be, well, flat (i.e. basically like walking on a stiff piece of material) and quite narrow, these have a nice amount of cushioning on the insole and the base of the shoe is fairly wide – not super-wide, but should accomodate most feet.  Here’s a little closeup of the insole:

I like the floral pattern and matching pink stitching going on here.  Little extra details like this are always a plus.

So, all in all, I’m definitely enjoying my cute and comfy new sandals and I’m sure they’ll get plenty of use over the summer – primarily for casual days out, but they could just as easily be dressed up a bit for things like going out to dinner, which is where I wore them the first time with my new skirt.  If you’d like to check them out online, DSW has the b.o.c Acacia for $49.95 and, in addition to pink (which is a brighter pink in person than in their picture), there are options for black, white, champagne, and green.
