On Point: Spike studded heels by Vince Camuto, Steve Madden & more

Tuesday, June 19th, 2012

I’m definitely a fan of spikes on shoes, but even I’ve been surprised by the longevity of the trend, at least when it comes to shoes.  It just seems to keep going and going, for well over two years by my estimations, and there are more options than ever for getting the look, from Louboutin creations to much lower-priced styles.  Perhaps people are drawn to the dangerous, rebellious vibe they convey – it’s like getting the claws out and being a bit naughty.  One option for doing just that is the Vince Camuto Jamma in leopard (pictured above), which can be found at Zappos for $149 with free shipping.  It’s got the exotic cheetah print going on and plenty of sharp spikes along the heel and vamp to add a little wild to your style.  Here are some more spiked heels currently on my radar:

Anne Michelle Sensuous 19 neutral pump with taupe spike detail for $49 at Lulus.com.

Steve Madden Awwsome glitter pumps with spike detail on preorder at Steve Madden for $149.95.  Coupon code SMSUMMER15 takes 15% off $75 and gives free shipping (exp 8/31/12).

Wild Pair Edie spike studded heels for $135 at Bakers.

Vince Camuto Mandie black pump with gold spikes for $197.95 with free shipping at Nordstrom.

Vince Camuto Madelyn spike detail pumps for $198 at Dillards.

Update: Another shoe option with spikes down the heel is the Fergie Nicki in gold or graphite for $99.95 at Nordstrom.

Update 2: The Shoe Republic Spiked Platform Pump in black or turquoise for $48 at Lulus.

I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Shoes that Shine: Summer sandals with the mirror effect

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

One trend that I’ve been loving this season is the use of super-shiny, metallic detail on shoes, particularly when the shoe is otherwise neutral, but one part is accented with highly reflective metallic material or metal plate detail.  It’s basically like shoes with a pop of color, only with a pop of shine instead, which certainly adds a nice element of flash.  I also find it particularly appros for summer, when the sun is shining and high-gloss shoes reflect that light, creating a modern, oh-so-bright effect.  If you like reflective mirror detail on shoes too, especially at a moderate price point, I’ve rounded up various options that provide the look.  For instance, the Sam Edelman Yelena (pictured above) for $133 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.  You can also shop at Belk to get them on sale for $70 and shipping is free if your order totals $99 or more.  Here are some more:

Aldo Acal on sale for $41.99 (regularly $80) at Aldo.

Vince Camuto Kipton in gold or silver for $118 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.  Also available in both colors for $118 at Dillards.

Sam Edelman Sophie for $119.95 with free 2-day shipping at Endless.

Nine West Wewantit on sale for $59 (regularly $79) in 3 colors and $79 for the gold version at Nine West.  Shipping is free for a limited time.

Steve Madden Whyknot on pre-order for $109.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code SMSUMMER15 takes 15% off and gives free shipping (exp. 8/31/12).

Aldo Skillings on sale for $45.49 (regularly $90) at Aldo.

Nine West Cmon on sale for $49 (regularly $89) in 3 color options at Nine West.  Shipping is free for a limited time.

Happy Wednesday!

Spring Shoes in Pastels: Nine West Topshoe Mary Jane peep toe pumps

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

I’ve been admiring the Nine West Topshoe lately for all of the pretty pastel shades it’s offered in.  Pastels, of course, are very on-trend this spring and when combined with this striking Mary Jane silhouette and contrasting heel and strap, it’s hard not to love this style.  But, if I were to buy it, what would be hard is picking out a favorite hue.  I mean, there’s the pastel green you see above, which is particularly lovely since mint shades have been hot this season, but then there’s also this gorgeous sky blue version (I have a bit of a weakness for this color):

Or a pretty in pink option:

Or a splash of yellow, never a bad thing:

Then again, one could nix the pastels and go with the versatility of black and white, a color combo that’s always hard to resist:

If you’re feeling much more decisive than me about one of these options, you’ll be glad to know about some sales and discounts available.  Nine West has just marked them down from $89 to $69 and they also have free shipping.  Nine West doesn’t have the black and white pair, but Macys has them for $89 and you can get 25% off with coupon code FRIENDS until 4/30/12.  If you need more size options (many are sold out at Nine West), you can also find all of the shades except yellow at Endless for $89.  If you spend over $100 on eligible styles, including this one, you can get 20% off your order using coupon code MOTHER20 through 5/13/12.  Zappos has yellow, blue, and black/white for $89 with free shipping.

Which shade is your fave?

Spring shoes that POP in neon

Friday, April 6th, 2012

With all of the bold color we’re seeing this season (which I was just discussing in my multicolor shoes post), it makes perfect sense that neon has once again emerged as a trend for spring and summer.  If you’re a lover of these ultra-bright hues, it’s not that you have to wait for them to be deemed trendy to wear them, but it does mean there are a lot more options to pick from.  And since neon packs a serious punch, a little goes a long way for making a bold statement; thus, wearing a pop of neon with your shoes is a particularly ideal way to apply the trend with ease.  I personally like the look of shoes in neutral shades, like taupe, combined with just enough neon to amp things up, like what you see with the Enzo Angiolini Timga pictured above.  It’s available for $120 at Endless and there’s also a neon pink version with a dark natural upper.  Here are some more of my current faves in fluorescent shades:

Vince Camuto Deric with bright yellow heel for $115 with free shipping at Amazon. Also available at Dillards.

Jessica Simpson Shavon colorblock heels with neon pink for $97.95 with free shipping at OnlineShoes.  Get $20 off $90, which drops the price on these to $77.95, using coupon code 20BLOOM through 4/30/12.

Ann Taylor Cheri in Caliente Coral for $178 at Ann Taylor.  Get 30% off with coupon code SPRING30 (expiration unknown).

Steve Madden Aaria in neon yellow on preorder for $149.95 at Steve Madden.  Coupon code MUSTHAVE25 takes 25% off $150 and gives free shipping through 4/10/12.  A pink version is also available.

Qupid Neutral neon green heels for $26.99 at Tilly’s.

Charlotte Russe neon wedge in pink or yellow on sale for $25 at Charlotte Russe.

Pour La Victoire Taryn in neon yellow for $189.99 with free shipping at Piperlime or $265 with free shipping at Endless.  It also comes in neon pink.

Fergie Protest in green for $69.95 with free shipping at Zappos.  It also comes in pink, yellow, and more color options.

Charlotte Russe neon orange heels for $30 at Charlotte Russe.  These shoes are eligible for their Buy 1, get 2nd for $12.50 promotion, as are these cute neon flats they offer.

Sole Boutique Posh Dynamo neon flats with spikes for $33 at Karmaloop.  They also come in neon yellow for $46. Update: Also available at Urban Originals for $33.50.

Have a fun weekend and a wonderful Easter!

Spring shoes in rainbow multicolor

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

I love how everything is about color, color, color right now when it comes to fashion.  We’ve seen the colorblocking trend enjoy plenty of longevity – it was a hit last spring too and just keeps going – and people have certainly become less afraid of combining color in unexpected ways.  Pastel shoes and pastel colorblocking have also been popular this season, which I can definitely appreciate, but bold color is always a go-to style must in the spring and summer months.  Perhaps because when things start heating up outdoors and everything gets much more colorful around us, our style naturally follows suit.

When it comes to shoes, there are many options out there for wearing a single bold color or even two or three in one pair, but today I’m focusing on the shoes that have at least four or more shades.  You just can’t help but be cheerful when you look at all of these colors playing so nicely together and if it’s extreme color that you crave, they really bring it.  One bold and dramatic example is the Zigi Shoes Sundae (pictured top), a shoe modeled after the Ferragamo Rainbow shoes.  I mentioned these on my Facebook page when LuLus came out with them, but they have since sold out (very quickly, I might add).  They are now available at Karmaloop for $250 and coupon code 10OFF100 takes 10% off $100, which drops them to $225 (exp 3/31/12).  Update: These are once again available at LuLus for $179.  Also at Heels.com for $294.99.

Here are some more multicolor options:

Kate Spade Lindsay for $275 with free shipping at Endless.

Inc International Valencia for $89 at Macys.  Coupon code SHOES takes 15% off 1 pair of shoes, 20% off 2 pairs, or 30% off 3 or more (exp 4/15/12).

Enigma Starlite for $76 with free shipping at Lulus.

Miss L-Fire Chica Chica Boom for $119.99 with free shipping at Heels.com.

Ash Hollywood for $189.95 with free shipping at Solestruck.

N.Y.L.A. Cobain for $117 with free shipping at Lulus.

Jeffrey Campbell Party-2 for $119.95 with free shipping at Envishoes.

Update 2: Another option is the Big Buddha Mojo for $59.95 with free shipping at Shoemall.  Get 20% off with coupon EGGSTRA20 through 4/10/12.

Update 3: Love the United Nude Elastic Remi.  It’s available for $279.95 with free shipping at Solestruck and for $280 with free shipping at Karmaloop.

Update 4: These super-affordable rainbow shoes can be found at GoJane for $33 in black, red, or orange.

Update 5: Here are some cute rainbow flats from Lulus.com, the Bamboo Feeling 03 for $25.

More or Less: Andreia Chaves Invisible Shoe & Sole Boutique Posh Fairest Shoe

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

I remember watching a TV show once that described how an invisible suit could be possible using technology that, in laymen’s terms, would involve a suit with tiny cameras all over it that record what is behind the person wearing it.  These images are then projected to the front of the suit, which would essentially render one invisible, like becoming part of the background (similar to what is described here).  I thought that was pretty cool and something that seems similar in concept to the Andreia Chaves Invisible Shoe (above).  This shoe doesn’t use high-tech cameras, but it does use all-over mirrored pieces that reflect whatever is around the shoe, which would have the effect of it blending into its surroundings.  But, despite that, I imagine that these aren’t the type of shoes that actually blend in when worn – these are futuristic, showstopping shoes made for being seen and garnering attention wherever they go.  But, all that hype doesn’t come cheap: Priced at $3,995.95 at Solestruck, they fall way out of the realm of possibility for many of us.

When I saw the Sole Boutique Posh Fairest Shoe at Karmaloop, I immediately thought of the Invisible Shoe.  It isn’t exactly like it, of course, but appears to be inspired by it with its reflective mirror patches and an overall similar silhouette.  But, this bold look can be had for well over 3K less – You can find it for $86 at Karmaloop.  Coupon code 10OFF takes $10 off your order for a limited time (expiration unknown).

Shoe App for iPhone: Get women’s summer shoes trends to go

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

They say there’s an app for everything.  It’s true — just check out this list of unusual iPhone apps to find out how your device can dog whistle, pass gas, pretend to be your girlfriend, recite embarassing phrases for revenge purposes, and many more.  While these apps all sound highly useful, shoe lovers of the world definitely need something more.  I’m talking about an app that promises to deliver pretty shoe pictures – high resolution close-up shots of some of the latest designer styles for summer – straight to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, meaning you can satisfy your shoe cravings anytime and anywhere you choose.  In addition, the app brings you key footwear trends for the season, street style photos for inspiration, and a shoe store finder for locating cool places to shop in select major fashion cities.  Get this information at your fingertips with the Shoe Trends: Trendstop Top 20 Summer 2011 app from the professional trend forecasters at Trendstop, who recently notified me of its launch.  It’s priced at $6.99 at iTunes and it appears to be seasonal, meaning it covers summer information only.

Note to self: Get iPhone.  Better yet, iPad.
