My magical Christmas holiday + my surprise shoes

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

I hope everyone had a very happy holiday!  I certainly did – one of the very best Christmases ever, actually – and afterwards I realized that all of the holiday wishes I mentioned in my last post actually came true for me!  I’m so thankful for that and had to share with you guys.  Here’s what I mean:

I mentioned a “sprinkle of something magical” and I had many moments this year that I would describe in that way.  From being treated to an absolutely spectacular firework show at an outdoor Christmas Eve service, to receiving a very special – and sentimental – surprise gift from my hubbie, to watching my little girl’s excitement as she spotted a red flashing light in the night sky on Christmas Eve (and being convinced that this was Rudolph) – these were the moments that I’ll never forget.  There was also one more thing:

I mentioned “lots of cozy” with a snowy scene pictured, but I didn’t anticipate that this would happen where I live.  We don’t get snow all that often, especially not on Christmas (it hasn’t happened on the 25th in over 20 years to give you an idea).  But, we woke up on Christmas Day to discover a total winter wonderland outside of our window (pictured above) and, needless to say, we were giddy with excitement.  It was spectacular, completely unexpected and made our day even more special.

The icing on the cake?  I got some cute shoes under the tree!  My sister, who knows just what a girl wants, got me the purple Nine West Blondie feather heels I mentioned in a previous post.  I was beyond thrilled to get these – they are super-hot!!  I had to return them for a different size – otherwise I would’ve posted one of my own pics instead of the stock photo – but I’ll have to share some pics in a future post when I get my replacement.  I can’t wait to wear these out!  A big thanks to my sweet sis!!

If you had some super-special moments this holiday – or some hot shoes as a gift – I’d love to hear about it!  Leave a comment here or on Facebook.

Also, I’m taking a bit of a computer vacation this week, so I won’t be posting as often, but I do hope everyone has a very happy New Year!!  I’m looking forward to the shoes of 2011!

Pink bow heels seen on E! News, the Kelsi Dagger Tiffany shoes with detachable bow

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

I was watching E! News last night – the 12/21/10 episode – and noticed a familiar pair of shoes during their style segment.  During this part of the show, they highlighted some affordable holiday wear and this hot pink shoe was featured as a way to add a pop of color to a little black dress.  I recognized it as the Kelsi Dagger Tiffany pump, which is a shoe that pulls double-duty with its detachable bow.  You can wear the bow any way you can think of or you can remove it and still have a pretty, unadorned platform pump to wear – because sometimes you feel like wearing a bow and sometimes you just don’t, right?.  E! News cited Endless as the store that sells these and you can get them there in pink, red, grey, black or blush suede or black patent for $70.20 – $99.95 depending on color selection, plus free overnight shipping.  But, Karmaloop actually has a better price right now.  They offer this pair in pink, black or red suede for $100 or in black patent for $90 and they’ve also extended their coupon code BERSERK (which I mentioned on Facebook the other day), which takes 30% off and adds free shipping.  That makes all of the suede versions $70 shipped and the black patent pair $63.  If you order today by 8 pm ET, which is also the expiration for the coupon code, you can still get them in time for Christmas.

Update: The 30% off code listed above has expired at Karmaloop, but you can use coupon NAUGHTYELVES for 25% off and free shipping (exp. 12/31).  If you want them by Christmas, you can use WOWSHIP instead to get $12 flat-rate overnight shipping if you order by 12/23/10 at 7 pm ET.

Shoes inspired by Lisa’s pink crystal Louboutins on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

I wasn’t really planning on talking about Christian Louboutin crystal heels again today, as I did in my last post, but after catching up on the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on DVR over the weekend, I was inspired by Lisa VanderPump, aka “Pinky”, and her pink Christian Louboutin shoes, which she was lucky enough to get signed by Mr. Louboutin himself (the shoes are pictured above in a screen shot from the episode).  Even though it’s only the first season for the Beverly Hills cast, we already know that Lisa is a Louboutin darling – we’ve seen her wear Louboutins in previous episodes and she even had some pink Louboutins made out of chocolate – and we also know that she has a strong affinity for the color pink (I can relate).  I couldn’t find these particular shoes, which are fuschia satin with a crystal-encrusted heel, anywhere online.  However, as I pointed out in my last post, the crystal Louboutins are typically much more expensive (even for Louboutin) and I’m guessing this pair is likely in the $2,000-$3,000 range.  If you have the funds, you may want to inquire about this shoe at a Louboutin boutique, but if you want something pink and sparkly in your life for much less, you might try one of these shoes:

These shoes are still quite a splurge and much lighter in color, but I have to admit that I melted a bit when I first saw them – total princess shoes.  This is the Giuseppe Zanotti E16130 “Barbie” pink glitter pump and you can get them at Endless for $550 with free overnight shipping.  Update: This is a less expensive style to check out: the Chinese Laundry Hot Hot in blush for $69.95 with free shipping at Zappos.

Here’s a similar pair for a bit less, the Butter Cleo pump in pink glitter.  It’s $286 with free shipping at Amazon (in most sizes).

Go for a bolder shade of pink with the Betsey Johnson Iridescence, which is $150 with free shipping at Zappos.

Keep the shine contained to the heel like Lisa’s pair with the Martinez Valero Ozzie, which have a look-alike pattern on the heel from another Louboutin pair, the Christian Louboutin Eugenie.  Get these for $129 at martinezvalero.com.

The Bordello by Pleaser Violette-14 is pink, covered in rhinestones and available for $123.95 with free 2-day shipping from Endless.

A final option that I found is the Lauren Jones Zinger pump, which has a more exaggerated texture that almost looks like confetti.  Endless has this pair for $109 with free overnight shipping.

More or Less: Christian Louboutin No Prive Riche look-alike, the Steve Madden I-Lyddia

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Christian Louboutin shoes continue to reign as one of the most highly-coveted shoe brands in the world, so when the red-soled wonders are embellished with all-over crystals, the infatuation is taken to a whole different level (at least for those of us who love sparkly princess shoes).  But, these little crystals cost a pretty penny and catapult already-expensive Louboutins into even more unattainable territory.  Case in point: the gorgeous blue Christian Louboutin No Prive Riche, one of the currently available crystal styles (although almost sold out), is a whopping $2,875 at Barneys. For those of us with much less to spend on shiny shoes, there’s a similar option from Steve Madden:
Although not available in blue, the Steve Madden I-Lyddia offers plenty of bling via all-over rhinestone detailing and it’s priced approximately $2,725 less at $149.95.  You can save even more by applying coupon code BFRUGAL15 at checkout (exp. 12/31), which takes 15% off $75.  That drops the price to $127.46 and also gives free shipping.  Hmm…New Year’s shoes, anyone?

SOS: Clear heels, feather heels & more shoes on BOGO at Nine West

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

I love a shoe sale where you can stack discount upon discount, for obvious reasons, and that’s just what we’re seeing over at Nine West.  They’ve had an ongoing sale that takes 30% or 50% off select specially-marked shoes and boots, but they’ve upped the ante even more today by offering 50% off your second pair.  That’s a lot of savings, particularly on shoes that are already on sale and eligible for the extra 30% or 50% off at checkout and eligible for the BOGO savings when you buy two, plus shipping is free.  It may all sound a bit complicated but, no worries, all you have to do is add you favorite styles to your cart and it’s all calculated automatically for you at checkout.  Plus, I’ve worked up a couple scenerios to demonstrate the potential savings on some shoes that caught my eye.  Let’s check it out:

For a super-low priced option that’s also super-cute, try the Nine West Masqurede, which is on sale for $39.99 (retail $69) and eligible for another 30% off at checkout.  That makes it $27.99 and it also comes in solid black and leopard patent.

Add the Nine West Bonfire to your order, which is on sale for $49.99 (retail $89) and also eligible for 30% off – making it $34.99 – and the Masquerade drops to just $13.99.  That means you’ll get two classically versatile peep toe pumps in your closet for $48.98 shipped.  That’s not bad at all, but you might want to try something even more trendy.  Here’s another scenerio:

The Nine West Zizzi has the same classic peep toe pump silhouette as the shoes above, but it grabbed my attention because of its clear upper with sparkle detail.  Clear shoes have been around forever – think jellies and those huge clear platform heels that are mostly associated with dancers (of the exotic variety, that is) – but we’ve also seen a lot of high-end designers like Fendi, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and Prada experiment with materials like PVC and lucite.  It can definitely be hit or miss, but I think in many cases the desired effect is to make the foot look as bare as possible, like it’s just covered in sparkles.  We haven’t seen many moderately-priced options to get this effect (for example, the Jimmy Choo Niagra is a whopping $2,495), but the Nine West Zizzi looks like clear done right to me, plus it’s affordable at $79.

I also had to take note of the Nine West Blondie heels because shoes with feather detail aren’t exactly the easiest thing to come across.  There was definitely a lot of interest in those red feather Louboutin heels seen on Kim from Bravo’s The Real Housewives, but it’s not something everyone can spend big bucks on to try out.  These shoes are on sale for $59.99 (retail $89) and also come in black or green.  You get another 30% off at checkout, which drops them to $41.99.  Add the Zizzi clear heels to your cart and you can snag them for just $20.99.  The price for both is $99.99 shipped.

There are plenty more cute shoes to choose from at great prices, but you’ll have to shake a tail feather.  The BOGO sale ends today, 12/15/10.

Skechers Shape-Ups for $39.95 at 6pm + coupon

Monday, December 13th, 2010

If you’re already contemplating the ever-popular New Year’s resolution of getting in better shape, you might get a jump start with Skechers Shape-Ups, the fitness shoes that boast increased muscle strengthening and toning benefits.  Do they really work?  I can’t say for sure, but at $39.95 a pair right now at 6pm, I’d say it’s worth a shot – particularly if you’ve always wanted to try them out, but held back due to their usual price tag of $80-$100+.  There are several styles available to choose from at this price, including the limited-edition pink Skechers Shape-Ups Awareness (pictured above) that was made in support of breast cancer awareness.  To save even more, apply the rare 6pm coupon code 6PMCJDEC132010 at checkout to get another 10% off, which will drop your total to $35.95 with $6.95 for shipping or free shipping on $100 or more.  The coupon expires today 12/13/10 (note that it may expire at any time before the end of the day, but it is working as of the time of this posting) and the sale ends 12/17/10.
