I’ve been talking about the shoes Siobhan Magnus wears on American Idol quite a bit lately because, as a shoe lover, I tend to notice shoes on TV and I also think she has a unique sense of style that stands out. While watching the Idol Gives Back show, where the contestants were dressed in all white, I saw that she was wearing this pair of cool pair of wedge shoes that have a heel cutout and a lace-up front:
I actually didn’t try to find these shoes, but while hunting for another pair, I happened to come across the Steve Madden Wyndi canvas bootie and instantly recognized them as the shoes Siobhan wore. Or, at the very least, they are very similar:
You can find these kicks at stevemadden.com, where they are sold in 3 color options for $149.95. Get free shipping by entering coupon code SMFREESHIP at checkout.

The addition of chains on shoes is an ideal way to exude a bit of rocker style and edge in a way similar to studs, but it’s a bit more of an unusual detail to find on footwear. That’s why I’m loving this Christian Louboutin Chain-Embellished Wedge, which has a nice mix of silver hardware and raffia, along with a solid black heel for contrast. If I had $625 to spend, I’d totally work the chain look this spring and summer in this pair.
Since I don’t have that much dough to spare at the moment (and there’s only a couple sizes left anyway), I’m happy to report that there’s another pair with a very similar look, but it costs way less. This is the Dollhouse Dazie and, while it isn’t an exact replica, it definitely appears to be inspired by the Louboutin pair. Plus, it’s just $49.99 over at Journeys, which is about $575 in savings. I’d say that’s off the chain (and, yes, the pun is completely intended).
Note that the Dollhouse pair is currently backordered and is expected to be in stock on 5/8/10.
Update: Here’s another lookalike, the Bebe Thea Chain Espadrilles for $129 at Bebe.

A classic black peep toe pump that you can wear with virtually anything is a must for anyone’s shoe collection, but how great is it to find this wardrobe staple item for a cheap price? Plus, it’s leather, brand name and looks great, so you really can’t go wrong. That’s what you get with the Nine West Jai, which is offered at 6pm in solid black for just $23.60 (MSRP $59) during their current Nine West sale. There are still plenty of sizes left right now, but I’m sure that won’t last long at this low price. Shipping adds $6.95 and the sale ends on 5/2/10, at which point the price may go up.
Need more cute cheap shoes? 6pm is also having a CL by Chinese Laundry sale that marks down a selection of flats to $12.95 each until 4/30/10.

Since my last post on Siobhan Magnus’ shoes on American Idol, I found out that I must have been on the right track when I thought her white strappy wedge shoes were Jeffrey Campbell. Her shoes looked like a white version of the Jeffrey Campbell Polish, although I haven’t seen anything other than the black version anywhere. It could be another shoe completely; however, Siobhan most definitely wore another JC style in her March 23 performance. I found this out by going to the style section of American Idol’s website, where women’s stylist Soyon An and men’s stylist Miles Siggins talk about what the contestants wear each week. It’s a great place to go if you see someone wearing a must-have item on the show and you have to know where it’s from. While they haven’t covered the white wedge yet, I did find out that Siobhan wore Jeffrey Campbell paired with skinny jeans on the March 23 show (pictured above). That shoe is the Jeffrey Campbell K-Genius and it appears Siobhan is wearing the khaki version, which is out of stock in several places. However, you can find it on sale at Eilatan.com for $139.39 (reduced from $163.99) with free shipping:
Eilatan also offers the black pair with brown straps for the same price, but only one size is left, and the grey version for $147.49 with free shipping. Karmaloop has the grey pair for $155 and you get 20% off by applying coupon code CLINTON at checkout, which drops them to $124. Shipping is extra and the expiration date of the coupon is unknown.

Happy Earth Day everyone! Today is a day of environmental awareness and there’s always changes we can make to benefit the planet, even with our shoes. Shoes generally aren’t considered highly wasteful products since we tend to wear them for long periods of time and then we might give them away for someone else to get additional use from them; however, it’s still a smart idea to opt for shoes made of recycled materials that would otherwise go to waste, organic shoes that are produced without chemical pesticides and shoes made from sustainable and/or biodegradable materials, even if it’s not every pair in our closet. In doing so, we support the companies that produce products in ways that are better for our planet and we might find that more and more companies will do the same. We can also save some green in the process and I’ve found some online shoe stores offering discounts today in celebration of Earth Day:
Simple Shoes takes 20% off regular or sale items with coupon code FOLLOWSIMPLE (exp. unknown). Simple Shoes strives for 100% sustainability in the materials used to produce their shoes using their Green Toe “good, better, best” method. See more details here.

Note that the Naya Shoes I mentioned yesterday are not eligible for coupon discounts and other exclusions apply.
Piperlime takes 20% off flat sandals on 4/22/10 if you apply coupon code SWEET at checkout. Shipping is also free.
Endless.com offers $25 off select earth friendly shoes $125 or more and free overnight shipping on new styles.

Since Earth Day 2010 is coming up tomorrow and it’s the 40th anniversary of the special day, I decided to turn the Star Designer spotlight on a brand-new line of eco-friendly footwear called Naya Shoes. Naya, which is the Hindi word for “renewal” according to WWD, was officially launched on March 4 of this year by Brown Shoe, a company that operates Famous Footwear and Shoes.com and has a brand portfolio that includes Naturalizer, Via Spiga, Franco Sarto, Carlos Santana, Fergie and more.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Naya is the first company-owned (i.e. not licensed) brand launched by Brown in about ten years, so it’s definitely a rare venture for the company. But the line is also unique because they’ve set out to make shoes that are cute, comfortable and environmentally friendly all at once. It’s a tall order, but I have to say they’ve done a great job. When I first came across a Naya pair, I definitely noticed the appearance of the shoe initially, which was exactly their intention. Pat Hogan, general manager of Naya, tells the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that they were “focused first on designing ‘beautiful’ shoes — and then looked for sustainable and biodegradable materials that could be used. The shoes are also created with comfort in mind.”
According the the Naya Shoes website, they employ the use of the following materials whenever possible:
- Chrome-free or vegetable-tanned leathers
- Natural, organic or sustainable fabrics
- Heels made from sustainable bamboo
- Biodegradable latex foam cushioning
- Natural cork and rubber footbeds
- Outsoles made with recycled materials
- Nickel free metal buckles
- Recycled paper boxes
- Water soluble glues and cements
I’m definitely in support of shoes that can potentially benefit the planet and Naya shows that being fashionable and environmentally-friendly can go hand-in-hand. I’m especially liking these styles:
Naya Atwood for $120 with free shipping from Shoes.com.
Naya Fowler in tan or black for $110 with free shipping at Shoes.com.
Naya Alamosa in red, black or taupe for $120 with free shipping at Shoes.com.
Naya Salida in brown, black or nickel for $110 with free shipping at Shoes.com.
Naya Timpas in yellow, green or brown for $124 with free shipping at Zappos.
Naya Arvada in white, red, brown or black for $124 with free shipping at Zappos.
Naya Arnelli in brown, white or black for $125 with free shipping at Shoes.com.
Naya Shoes are available at all of these online shoe stores, but it’s worth noting that if you purchase Naya from Shoes.com during the month of April, they will plant a tree for each pair. Also, Naya will give away a free pair of their shoes if they reach 1,000 Facebook fans by April 22, and they’re really close to reaching that now, so be sure to become their friend and you just might score a pair for yourself!
